Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1806: Chapter 1709: Still Alive

”Wait, there’s someone down here!”

The soldier was originally about to climb up using the safety rope, but when he turned his head, he saw the woman kneeling with her body bent and knees down, frozen in a very peculiar position on the ground.

The posture was reminiscent of ancient people’s kneeling prayer, but the woman’s body was deformed from being crushed by the ruins, making the sight extremely eerie.

The soldier felt somewhat puzzled in his heart, then as if driven by a mysterious impulse, he reached out and gently pushed the woman.

Just as he pushed, he was startled; the woman couldn’t hold up her stiff form under external force and directly fell to the side.

As she fell, a child was revealed beneath her body!

The child appeared to be about a year old, dressed in a thick cotton jacket, protected under the woman but was pale in complexion.

The soldier picked up the child and found that the child’s neck and calves were injured, having lost quite a bit of blood, though the wounds had scabbed over. But the child was unconscious, with a forehead burning with fever.

”It’s a child, still breathing, but has a high fever and very weak breath!”

The soldier shouted loudly.

Meng Jinlong’s body stiffened, realizing there really was a child still alive down below. His mind buzzed; how did that woman named Huo really manage to see someone alive buried within? How did she figure it out?

Meng Jinlong’s mood was very complex, but at this moment, there was no time to ponder such questions. Several soldiers worked together swiftly pulling the soldier and child from the ruins.

The soldier stumbled out of the debris holding the child and clutching a Nokia phone. He hurried to Meng Jinlong’s side, choked with emotion: ”Captain, have a look at this!”

With that, the soldier handed over the Nokia phone, Meng Jinlong froze, lowered his head to look at the lit screen pressed by the soldier.

Seeing the words clearly on the screen, his face turned blank. Slowly, waves of profound shock and solemnity surged from deep within him.

This phone belonged to the child’s mother, its interface paused on a text message—edited but unsent—which read:

Dear baby, if you survive, remember that mommy loves you!

From the time of the earthquake to now, in these dozen or so hours, accustomed to life and death separations, Meng Jinlong had grown somewhat numb. Yet upon reading what was written on that phone, he trembled all over.

No one could imagine, after the earthquake, this child’s mother trapped beneath a large pile of broken beams, protecting the child while enduring immense physical pain, how challenging it was to type these few words on the phone.

The phone was passed among the other soldiers, each deeply shaken, moved by the mother who sacrificed her own life to ensure the child’s safety, shedding tears for her selfless maternal love.

The phone eventually landed in Huo Sining’s hands, and she couldn’t help but tear up as well, looking up at Meng Jinlong: ”Captain Meng, let me take care of this phone. Don’t worry, I won’t lose it!”

Meng Jinlong nodded, and Huo Sining pretended to tuck the phone into her backpack, but actually slipped it into Space. If possible, she hoped that in the future, when this child grew up, the phone could be handed to him intact, showing him his mother’s unconditional, profound love through its broken screen.

Although the child was rescued, he was still running a high fever, and the soldiers were at a loss. Seeing this, Huo Sining hurried over:

”Don’t worry, I brought plenty of emergency meds, including rapid fever reducers. Feed the child a little medicine, he’ll be relieved soon.”

Huo Sining rummaged through her backpack, finding fever reducers and wound-treatment medicine. After administering them to the child, she cleaned his wounds, secretly channeling some Spiritual Energy into the child’s body. Soon, the fever reduced, and the child’s complexion became much rosier.

The soldiers, including Meng Jinlong, watched eagerly as Huo Sining handled things. She found a blanket, wrapped the child in it, and placed him in the armored vehicle’s rear compartment, then informed Meng Jinlong and the others that the child was fine.

Only then did everyone breathe a sigh of relief, as Meng Jinlong hastily used the satellite phone to request reinforcement with an additional medical team.

The child’s appearance dispelled much of their skepticism towards Huo Sining, and at that moment the soldier responsible for the life-detection apparatus also ran over, full of astonishment, whispering something to Meng Jinlong. Then, Meng Jinlong glanced toward Huo Sining.

Huo Sining had already guessed what the soldier said to Meng Jinlong—that area she explored with Heavenly Eye showed no signs of life, and the soldier likely confirmed her statement’s validity, which was likely what he reported.

Indeed, after nodding to the soldier, Meng Jinlong directly walked over with a somewhat awkward and conflicted expression:

”Huo... Chief, from now on, the Seventh Battalion follows your command in the rescue operations!”

Huo Sining squinted slyly at Meng Jinlong: ”Well, didn’t you say your detectors were the most accurate? Changed your mind now?”

Meng Jinlong’s face turned red, scratching the back of his head: ”This...”

Meng Jinlong couldn’t truly believe in Kanyu teachings. From a young age, through military education, he’d always learned materialism and scientific fundamentals, but he couldn’t explain how Huo Sining could precisely determine there were people under the ruins.

Huo Sining knew well her ability wasn’t real Feng Shui Kanyu; she claimed such mystical reasoning mainly as a cover, so she laughed and waved her hand, saying:

”Forget it, it’s hard to explain clearly in a few words. Just follow me, listen to what I say going forward. About earlier, I won’t hold it against you, but I hope there won’t be a repeat situation. Whatever I command, I won’t say it twice!”

Huo Sining’s youthful face was full of seriousness and solemnness, her gaze sharp like an eagle, exuding a sudden sternness that made Meng Jinlong feel a cold surge from underfoot.

He shivered, as if seeing an old chief of the district stand before him, the powerful aura made him unconsciously stand tall and firm, with no trace of previous indifference or casualness. He responded with a heavy and solemn: ”Yes!”
