Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 783: Chapter 779 Desperation

The next morning, before Dianshifang even opened its doors, there were already people knocking, and not just one person either.

The shop had only recently opened for business on Antique Street, and it wasn’t doing particularly well. It was rare for even a handful of customers to come in and conduct business on any given day, but today, so early in the morning, someone was already calling at the door. This was too strange.

The assistants from the neighboring shops were feeling that something was off, yet they didn’t think too much of it.

But not long after this group of door knockers had arrived, another group showed up, all heading for Dianshifang. The situation looked odd no matter how one saw it.

Immediately, an assistant came over to inquire about the situation. Upon asking, they learned that someone would publicly engage in Stone Gambling at Dianshifang that morning, and these people had come to watch.

Coming over to watch Stone Gambling this early in the morning, were these people out of their minds?

That assistant looked at them with a peculiar expression in his eyes, his pupils shifted, then he turned and rushed back to call his boss.

”Mr. Zhong, several groups of people have arrived at Dianshifang across the way, saying they are here to watch a public Stone Gambling session. I hear that Dianshifang has arranged for someone to publicly cut raw jade this morning,” the assistant reported over the phone.

”A public Stone Gambling session? Is it someone from Dianshifang who will be cutting the stone?” Zhong Yuejin was still in the midst of sleep when he heard the news and immediately bounced up from the bed.

”I’m not sure, I will go and find out more for you,” the assistant hadn’t asked for many details, so he didn’t have a clear picture of the situation, but hearing Zhong Yuejin’s question, he realized Zhong Yuejin was interested in the news, and his eyes lit up with delight.

”Then go find out everything, and if you can also figure out what the raw jade that’s going to be cut is all about, I’ll give you a bonus this month if you get the details!”

Zhong Yuejin, of course, knew why the assistant would go out of his way to give him this critical piece of information. He had placed the assistant in the shop opposite Dianshifang to act as his informant, to secretly monitor all of Dianshifang’s movements. It was this assistant who had leaked the business about Zhong Zifan inspecting raw jade at the Wang Family’s place.

The assistant was adept at this sort of work, but surveillance was, after all, a private and stealthy affair. Without the incentive of a small reward, the man would hardly try his best.

Sure enough, hearing the promise of a bonus, the young assistant instantly perked up as if invigorated, excitedly saying, ”Yes, don’t worry, I will definitely find out everything for you.”

Zhong Yuejin grunted and hung up the phone, but now he was wide awake. He sat up in bed and pondered over the events that had unfolded yesterday at the Wang Family’s home, growing increasingly unsettled the more he thought about it.

There was something about yesterday’s incident that didn’t sit right with him.

It’s true that Wang Zhongwei was a scoundrel, but he definitely wasn’t the kind of person to shoot himself in the foot. With the Zhong Family Main House now teetering on the brink, virtually powerless, why would Wang Zhongwei choose to offend him, Zhong Yuejin, to collaborate with Zhong Zifan?

Zhong Yuejin felt that Wang Zhongwei wasn’t that foolish unless Zhong Zifan had offered him an even greater incentive. But with Zhong Zifan himself in a precarious position, akin to a clay Bodhisattva crossing a river, could he really offer Wang Zhongwei something tempting enough to gain his cooperation?

The more Zhong Yuejin thought, the more he felt that something was amiss. As he was mulling over this, the assistant’s call came through again.

”Mr. Zhong, the employees at Dianshifang just brought out the stone cutting machine and displayed the raw jade to be cut. There are two pieces in total, just placed on top of the stone cutting machine, and all these people who have come to look lively are allowed to observe freely.”

As soon as Zhong Yuejin heard this, he urgently asked, ”What kind of raw jade are the two pieces?”

The clerk thought for a moment before describing, ”The larger piece is a Black Oosh, probably around twenty or thirty pounds. It not only has a Python Band with pine flowers but also red spots. From what those onlookers said, the performance of this raw material is very good; it’s certain to reveal high-quality green.”

”As for the other piece, it’s harder to gauge. That raw material is merely about ten pounds, covered in Sand Holes, deep yellow Shui Fan Sha. Its appearance is almost like trash material; anyway, the onlookers weren’t optimistic about it.”

Hearing what the clerk had said, Zhong Yuejin was suddenly dumbstruck.

Black Oosh, Shui Fan Sha—why do these two pieces of raw material sound so familiar?

The more Zhong Yuejin thought about it, the more he felt something was wrong. Could these two pieces be from Wang Zhongwei’s home? Could it be that after he left Wang Zhongwei’s place yesterday, Wang Zhongwei sold that fake raw material and the piece with the Sand Hole to Zhong Zifan?

But weren’t Zhong Zifan and Wang Zhongwei in a partnership? Given the obviously fake raw material, would Zhong Zifan buy it?

The more Zhong Yuejin thought, the more confused he became, completely unable to figure out what was going on.

Zhong Yuejin was very resentful about Wang Zhongwei and Zhong Zifan conspiring against him, but now, despite the irritation in his heart, he still flipped to Wang Zhongwei’s number and gave Wang Zhongwei a call.

When Wang Zhongwei saw the call from Zhong Yuejin, he was furious. This scoundrel, Zhong Yuejin, in cahoots with his nephew, almost got him thrown into jail—how could Wang Zhongwei not hate him?

Now, seeing that Zhong Yuejin was calling him, Wang Zhongwei was nowhere near calm. As soon as he picked up the phone, he cursed, ”You son of a bitch, Zhong Yuejin, you’ve got me into such a mess, and you still have the face to call me?!”

Upon hearing Wang Zhongwei’s cursing, Zhong Yuejin immediately took offense, ”Where did I harm you? Isn’t it you who conspired with that bastard Zhong Zifan to cheat me? Would I have ditched everything and run away if it weren’t for that? That was three million in cold hard cash. Do you really think I’m that easy to fool?”

The two men cursed each other, but after finishing their tirade, both felt that something was amiss.

”What three million? Didn’t you collaborate with your nephew?”

”What are you talking about? I can’t understand you. Aren’t you in alliance with Zhong Zifan?”

After exchanging a question each, both seemed to understand something, and asked loudly, ”You haven’t made a private agreement with Zhong Zifan?”

The urgency in their voices, unscheduled as it was, betrayed that something fishy was going on. Both were not fools and immediately grasped the underlying ruse.

”Damn it!” Zhong Yuejin couldn’t help but blurt out a curse, ”Wasn’t this all planned with Zhong Zifan yesterday?”

”Are you blind or what? Didn’t I make it clear that the person we were supposed to deceive was your nephew? Even if I’m not a good man, I wouldn’t be two-faced to this extent, would I? Didn’t I tell you to follow the plan? Then you just fucking ran off! How is that my fault?”

Wang Zhongwei was livid, and then suddenly thought of something else, ”I haven’t even settled with you yet—how come you let slip to that bastard Zhong Zifan about the fake raw material?”

Zhong Yuejin looked confused upon hearing this, ”The fake raw material? I didn’t tell him, and I’m not an idiot. Since we were going to swindle him, telling him would’ve been a waste, right?”
