Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 764: Chapter 760 Newcomers to the Island

Although according to the navigation device, she only needed to cross the mountain forest behind her and walk a distance into the sea, there would be a shipping route where she might find passing ships.

But on the other side of the mountain, the terrain was steep and dangerous, with peaks rising three to four hundred meters and a dense growth of trees indicating a primitive forest. Huo Sining had no intention of taking such a risk.

Thus, she planned to retrace her steps on the way she had come, but she had only taken a few steps when she heard voices coming from the direction of the beach.

Huo Sining’s ears were sensitive, so from a great distance, she could hear other sounds mingling with the sound of the waves from the beach.

She hadn’t expected that there would be other people landing on this deserted island. The sudden realization sent a wave of panic through Huo Sining, stiffening her expression as she hurriedly perked up her ears to listen more carefully.

”Master, ahead is... after passing through... we will arrive.”

”Hmm, lead the way in front... we will wait for the others... as long as we can confirm it’s... complete, that’s fine.”

”Hey!”

The voices, mingled with the sound of the wind and the waves, drifted over intermittently and were not very clear. Huo Sining had no time to distinguish them before they got closer, and when she looked up, she could already see several figures appearing in the distance.

It was clearly impossible to hide at this point, but Huo Sining knew she could not be exposed. Out of desperation, she resorted to an old trick and once again recited the Invisibility Spell, vanishing completely into the beach.

Just seconds after Huo Sining became transparent, a group of seven people emerged around the corner, barely a hundred meters from the beach where she stood. Among them, four appeared to be bodyguards, while the remaining three—a man in his fifties and two young men and women—did not look like they were here for an adventure but rather for an inspection or a survey of the island.

This made Huo Sining feel quite puzzled. It was a deserted island with no village ahead or shop behind. What were these people doing here?

As Huo Sining’s confusion grew, the group approached the area where she had emerged from the creek, and she froze in shock.

”Hm?”

The man leading the group was someone she knew.

It was none other than Fujiwara Seiho, the owner of Qingping Pavilion, whom Huo Sining had met when she first came to S City, bringing two Huaxia Koi with her to the Chenghuang Temple’s fish seller for the fish fighting competition at Qingping Mountain.

Huo Sining remembered very clearly that although she harbored no strong feelings about Fujiwara Seiho at the time, his peculiar behavior after finding out he was from Dongyang always made her feel uncomfortable.

Fujiwara Seiho had later sent her an invitation to go fishing at sea, which Huo Sining had declined.

Of course, these were all trivial matters. Now, what puzzled and made Huo Sining suspicious was why Fujiwara Seiho, instead of staying in S City, had come all the way to this deserted island in Mindong?

While Huo Sining was scrutinizing the group, Fujiwara Seiho and his companions reached the creek she had just passed.

”Master, this is the place. We need to go in here,” said the man in his fifties.

Hearing the old man actually address Fujiwara Seiho, a man in his twenties or thirties, as ”Lord,” Huo Sining was very surprised and instinctively widened her eyes.

Fujiwara Seiho murmured an indifferent ”Hmm,” his gaze deep as he looked at the stream, seemingly deep in thought, and gave a slight nod of his head.

The female assistant by his side immediately caught on and turned to the four bodyguards behind her, ”Sakata, Hirakawa, you two go ahead.”

Upon hearing the assistant’s order, the two bodyguards didn’t hesitate at all, responded with a brisk ”Aye,” and started walking toward the cave, carrying their backpacks.

Following them were the old man and the female assistant, the four of them entering the cave one after another along the stream, while Fujiwara Seiho and the other two bodyguards stood outside the cave, quietly waiting for news from within.

Seeing the old man leading three others into the cave, Huo Sining’s eyes suddenly widened in alarm.

The first thing that came to mind was the double-headed abalones she had just fished out of the pond; could those abalones have been raised by these people?

But then she thought otherwise.

The abalones in that pond were clearly wild, with the larger ones being at least seven or eight to ten years old. If people were able to cultivate them, they probably would have been harvested long ago.

But if it wasn’t for the abalones, what were these people doing in this cave?

A thought flashed across Huo Sining’s mind, and suddenly she thought of those plants that looked like Golden Lotuses.

Those plants were brimming with Spiritual Energy, and the Old Sea Turtle, who regretfully couldn’t let go, had wanted to bite off a flower; it was clear that those were no ordinary items.

Could it be that these people had gone through all this trouble to come here, all for the sake of a few unidentified plants?

As if to confirm Huo Sining’s speculation, no sooner had she considered this possibility than the people who had entered the cave hurriedly ran back out.

These people had been both nervously excited and hopeful when they went in, their faces at least showing high spirits, but now, as they came out, they each had a grim look on their faces, especially the fifty-something-year-old lead man, who looked utterly distraught and ashen.

Seeing these people emerge so quickly, and empty-handed at that, Fujiwara Seiho’s originally calm face also instantly darkened as he asked in a grave tone, ”What happened?!”

The female assistant’s face was filled with anger, ”There’s nothing in the pond, the items have been taken by someone!”

Fujiwara Seiho’s complexion turned an angry shade of blue as his sharp eyes bore into the lead man.

The old man looked like he was about to cry, his face full of misery as he said, ”This... Lord, I have no idea what happened here, when I came here last month, those Golden Lotus were still growing in the pond, I don’t know who took them away!”

Fujiwara Seiho sneered, ”Didn’t you claim again and again that this place was very safe, and that no one would come here? Now you’re telling me that the items have been dug up by someone?!”

Fujiwara Seiho looked incredibly displeased, and the old man was even more terrified and frightened, trembling all over like a sieve.

Fujiwara Seiho had no patience for this, waved his hand at the female assistant behind him, who immediately got the hint. Before the old man could react, she suddenly pulled out a black pistol from her side and fired a quick and accurate shot right at the old man’s heart.
