Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 351: Chapter 347: Is the Village Connected to the Internet Now?

The editor took a sip of water and continued, ”Besides those two pieces of text and the photo, have you gathered any other evidence?”

Zhang Jun hesitated before responding, ”There are also several recordings I secretly made while interviewing Huo Sining’s classmates and calling her aunt. The recordings confirm that the content of my previous long Weibo post is true.”

The editor opened a drawer and pushed a full-time contract to Zhang Jun.

”I won’t bother you with hollow words. This news is very important for our magazine. It’s related to whether our magazine can rise to fame. With your expose, perhaps we can turn the tables.”

”I need those two recordings. I hope that the upcoming revelation about Miss Magic could be posted on our magazine’s official Weibo account. As a part of the deal, you get the full-time contract along with a promotion to head of the gossip department,” the editor offered.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Jun’s eyes suddenly lit up with surprise and excitement. Having interned at the magazine for several months, he had been looking forward to the day he could become a regular employee.

He had thought that day was far off, but unexpectedly, just by breaking one story, he effortlessly got what he wanted, plus a position as head of the gossip department. This was indeed an unexpected joy.

But Zhang Jun soon calmed down.

The long Weibo post and photo he initially exposed weren’t really big news but could only be seen as a starter.

The latter recordings were the crux of the incident. If he just handed them over, wouldn’t his efforts over the past few days have been in vain?

Thinking of his rapidly increasing followers, Zhang Jun felt hesitant.

If he continued with the exposé, could it mean that he could ride the wave of Miss Magic’s fame and heat up his own Weibo? If he became famous, wouldn’t every magazine want him? Would he still need to worry about not getting a regular position?

Zhang Jun was torn between the two options. The editor seemed to guess what Zhang Jun was thinking and flashed a hint of displeasure in his eyes. Still, considering the growth of the magazine, he decided to compromise.

”How about this, we’ll release the two recordings on our official account, but we’ll credit your name, stating that you exclusively dug up those recordings. That should do, right?”

Naturally, this was the best solution. Hearing this, Zhang Jun knew this was a win-win situation. Without any hesitation, he immediately nodded in agreement.

At this moment, the editor didn’t realize that although agreeing to credit Zhang Jun’s name behind the news made him somewhat discontent, he would soon feel very fortunate.

He could never expect that just because of two recordings, Media Shang Magazine would fall into deep trouble.

And it was precisely because of his reluctant yet necessary compromise that Media Shang Magazine narrowly escaped disaster.

Su Qingqing, who never left her phone during meals and turned on her computer as soon as she returned to her room, had recently failed an end-of-term exam and was pulled by Professor Xie to join an archaeology team for training.

When she finally had some time to browse Weibo and relax, she saw the trending topic #MissMagicGetOutOfMagicCircle#.

Initially, Su Qingqing thought she misunderstood, but after clicking in and understanding the situation, her face instantly darkened as if covered with soot.

She furrowed her brows and clicked on the microblog of the whistleblower, Mr. Handsome. By this time, his followers had nearly reached five hundred thousand—all spectators eagerly watching without protest.

Although Su Qingqing had never heard Huo Sining mention anything about those eighteen years in Bashu, seeing Huo Sining’s independence and resourcefulness, Su Qingqing could guess that her days in Bashu were not pleasant.

If she had been treated kindly and cherished by her uncle’s family, she would have been like Qingqing, her hands never touch spring water for chores, let alone economic independence, even cooking and laundry would be out of the question.

But Huo Sining was someone who earned money to support her family and took care of household chores on her own, rarely splurging even after she had earned money, preferring to hunt for bargains—she was definitely not a girl who had been pampered before.

Gossip was flying everywhere, and the comments from netizens were simply unbearable, especially when Su Qingqing saw some speculating that Huo Sining was kept by a rich old man, flaunting wealth in a mercenary and unfilial manner. This made her completely lose her temper.

The principal had to be mindful of his position, and couldn’t speak out more angrily and explicitly, but while others may not understand, Su Qingqing couldn’t be more clear.

This Mr. Handsome was clearly aiming to smear Huo Sining, and from the way he teasingly held back before releasing the photos, he surely had other moves planned. Su Qingqing felt that something was amiss and decided to call Huo Sining to inform her.

When Huo Sining received the call, she was still in the basement; these days she was busy solving rough jade stones there.

She had picked up quite a bit of Hetian jade seed material at Moyu River, which she couldn’t all solve immediately, but she would soon follow Master Huang back to the Imperial Capital, and she definitely wanted to bring gifts for the Huang Family.

Therefore, she picked a few nicer pieces of Mutton Fat Jade and ink jade to slowly cut open, then to have Yan Feng help in crafting them into a few pendants and ornaments as gifts.

”Hello, Qingqing.”

”Huo Sining, you need to check Weibo right now!” Su Qingqing said frantically on the other end.

Huo Sining was puzzled: ”What Weibo? I don’t have a Weibo account.”

”You don’t use Weibo? Man, has your village been connected to the internet at all? Can you not be so out of touch? Stop the nonsense and hurry up to your computer and search for Miss Magic. There’s a scumbag on Weibo spreading rumors and slandering you, see if you recognize that person!”

Huo Sining paused, wiped the sweat from the tip of her nose, and said unconcernedly:

”If they want to smear, let them smear. Anyway, I don’t use Weibo. In the virtual world, who cares who you are? Once the rumors die down, it’ll be fine.”

This wasn’t the first time she had experienced cyberbullying. Last time in Guangzhou, the video uploaded about her had also become viral suddenly. People were clamoring to dox her, but didn’t it all quiet down after a short while?

However, Huo Sining obviously did not realize the seriousness of the situation this time. She attributed it to the virtual world, not knowing that her real-life information had already been exposed.

”Are you missing a screw in your head or something? What virtual world? These people already know you’re a student from S University’s School of Biological Sciences, they know your name, your place of birth, and even that you come from an orphan background. They’re only short of coming to your house to throw rotten eggs!”
