Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 358: Chapter 354: Meddle

So Zhang Jun was out of luck.

Everyone at the magazine company pointed fingers, claiming that Mr. Handsome was none other than him, and that all the incidents were solely his doing, with no one else aware.

Even Jiang Tao firmly denied having instigated the matter and claimed that Zhang Jun was just an intern at their magazine, not yet a full employee.

It was only then that Jiang Tao felt relieved. Although he had given the permanent contract to Zhang Jun, the HR department was inefficient, and the process to finalize employment status would take at least a week to complete. Therefore, Zhang Jun was indeed still just an intern at the magazine company.

The significance of an intern was almost the same as that of a temp worker, which significantly lessened the consequences the magazine company would have to bear.

Zhang Jun wanted to drag some people down with him, but to his surprise, the magazine staff were unanimous in their external statement, not even mixing up their testimonies, and squarely blamed him alone.

Zhang Jun didn’t miss the look of regret in Jiang Tao’s eyes and the schadenfreude in the gaze of the man who had taken over his position as the gossip team leader.

At that moment, he was the scapegoat of the magazine company, the issue everyone saw as a blemish; no one was fawning over him or chasing after his favor like they did in the morning after learning that he had become the team leader. Instead, everyone avoided him like the plague, fearful of being associated with him in any way.

Anger surged within Zhang Jun as he scanned the faces of these people, as if trying to remember this moment and their contemptible expressions.

Jiang Tao, on the other hand, felt disdain. Zhang Jun was nothing but an insignificant figure, who now had somehow offended some important person. After this rumor-mongering incident, it was uncertain whether he could even get out smoothly, and with this on his record, making a comeback would be difficult.

So, Jiang Tao didn’t feel the slightest misgiving about stepping on Zhang Jun one bit. As long as he didn’t implicate himself or the magazine, he naturally wouldn’t hesitate to push Zhang Jun out.

Liang Junqi, Liang Jinhong’s sister, received a call from Wu Jingyi, which annoyed her. Having seen Liang Jinhong mingling with various women, she assumed Wu Jingyi was just one among his messy entanglements of girlfriends, and naturally, she didn’t show Wu Jingyi any kindness.

Right as she was about to hang up, Liang Jinhong emerged from the bathroom. Seeing his sister in the room, he couldn’t help but pause and ask, ”What are you doing here?”

Liang Junqi stuck out her tongue, ”Brother, I’m out of money. There’s a gathering in a few days, and I need some money to buy a dress.”

Liang Jinhong’s face stiffened. He remembered giving his sister five hundred thousand for her birthday this month, and now, not even halfway through the month, Liang Junqi was out of money again.

”You’re spending money more and more recklessly. I’m not a money printing machine; where am I supposed to get all that money for you to spend?” Liang Jinhong said irritably.

Upon hearing this, Liang Junqi’s expression darkened, and she lifted her head to scoff coldly, ”So you’re willing to spend money on buying a worthless rock in Pingzhou?”

When Liang Junqi mentioned the King Biao from Pingzhou that had collapsed, Liang Jinhong’s face turned dark immediately.

”I was there to make money. The raw stone showed such good potential, and if it had increased in value after cutting, it could have made tens or hundreds of millions. How was I supposed to know it would collapse?”

Liang Junqi curled her lip, ”And what about those shady girlfriends of yours? You’re also willing to spend money on them, right? That Wu Jingyi, she must have benefited quite a bit, no?”

Upon hearing Wu Jingyi’s name, Liang Jinhong’s expression changed again, ”How do you know about Wu Jingyi? Have you been following me?”

Liang Junqi laughed derisively, ”I can’t be bothered to waste my time on your nonsense. I’m not that bored. Look, your sweetheart just called you. I picked up. She said she had something urgent to discuss with you, but she didn’t specify what it was.”

As she spoke, Liang Junqi tossed the phone towards Liang Jinhong. He saw indeed there was an answered call in the call history and hurriedly returned the call, only to find a busy signal.

Liang Jinhong felt some unease and decided to check on Wu Jingyi’s rental apartment. He got dressed, handed a check for fifty thousand to Liang Junqi, and turned to leave.

Liang Junqi muttered discontentedly, ”Stingy, how can I buy any decent clothes with so little?!”

Liang Jinhong turned around and glared fiercely at Liang Junqi,

”Stop being so picky. Don’t think I don’t know, your dressing room is almost overflowing with clothes! And another thing, don’t you dare answer my phone without permission again, or you can forget about asking me for money in the future!”

Liang Junqi stuck out her tongue and pulled a face at Liang Jinhong.

Hurriedly, Liang Jinhong arrived at Wu Jingyi’s apartment, only to find it empty. Wu Jingyi’s phone was still engaged; the situation didn’t feel right to Liang Jinhong.

Just then, the door across the hall opened, and a woman in her thirties stepped out. Catching sight of Liang Jinhong standing at Wu Jingyi’s door, her gaze flickered. After a few steps, she turned back and asked, ”Are you looking for the young lady who lives across the way?”

Liang Jinhong nodded, and the woman replied, ”Then you can stop waiting. Earlier, two police officers came and took her away.”

Liang Jinhong frowned at this, ”Police?”

The woman nodded, ”Yes, in uniform. I don’t know what happened, but it looked serious.”

Liang Jinhong nodded, ”Alright, got it. Thanks a lot.”

As he walked away, Liang Jinhong took out his phone and dialed the number of a contact in the police station.

”Young Master Liang, what brings you to call me?”

The voice on the other end conveyed surprise, almost in disbelief that Liang Jinhong would call him.

”Deputy Director Chen, it seems a friend of mine has been taken in by your officers, and I just learned about it. I was hoping to inquire about the incident.”

Deputy Director Chen had initially thought Liang Jinhong had called him for some social event, but instead, he was asking for help.

However, hearing Liang Jinhong’s request, Chen didn’t show any displeasure, but was extremely eager to assist,

”How could a friend of yours get into trouble, Young Master Liang? It’s probably a mistake on the part of the team. Let me ask around for you; what’s your friend’s name?”

The Deputy Director asked for Wu Jingyi’s name with a smile, but inwardly sneered, thinking that judging by her name, she was probably not Liang Jinhong’s friend but his mistress.

Regardless of her relationship with Liang Jinhong, Deputy Director Chen knew he had to find a way to get her out. Liang Jinhong’s concern for this mistress showed their relationship wasn’t trivial. If it had been a mere fling, Liang Jinhong probably wouldn’t have called him at all.

The Deputy Director had his own requests of the Liang family, so he was more than happy to be approached by Liang Jinhong, owing him a favor; this would give him leverage when he needed the Liang family’s assistance in the future.

After hanging up with Liang Jinhong, the Deputy Director wasted no time in making inquiries. Shortly, he uncovered information about the detention of Zhang Jun, Wu Jingyi, and others in Haiding District.
