Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 297: Chapter 294: The Confession Outcome

Gu Xu was overjoyed when he heard this. The idea instilled in him and his brother by Master Gu of the Gu Family was ”All relationships that do not have marriage as their goal are hooliganism.” Therefore, Gu Xu was simple and straightforward in matters of the heart; once he made up his mind, he would never turn back.

”I swear on my life that my feelings for Huo Sining are sincere. If I ever betray—”

”Ouch—”

”Who pushed me—”

Just as he was speaking, the door of the guest room was suddenly thrust open from the outside, and several people tumbled in, looking at Gu Xu and Huo Sining inside the room with embarrassed faces.

Su Qingqing, Madam Gu, and Auntie Li, who were eavesdropping from outside the door, were all so excited upon hearing Gu Xu’s declaration of love to Huo Sining that they couldn’t contain themselves.

Just at that moment, not knowing who pushed from behind, the three of them stumbled and, with Su Qingqing in the lead, ended up pushing open the partially closed door of the guest room and tumbling into the room together.

Somewhere, a protector who had succeeded in his mischief smirked, withdrawing the same hand that had just mischievously pushed Madam Gu.

He knew things were going to be messy as soon as he saw Gu Xu confessing to Huo Sining. At that moment, perhaps sensing the joy or sorrow in Huo Sining’s emotions, Su Lan sent him a panicked message using their special connection, demanding to know what was happening.

Upon learning that Gu Xu was confessing his love to his sister, Su Lan’s face darkened instantly:

”He thinks he can take advantage of my absence to cement their relationship? He wishes! Find a way to stop him. We’ll deal with it when I get back! Don’t think I’m joking, protector. I’ve been worried about who to send to manage Jingze Zhou, and I’m considering assigning someone there!”

The protector shuddered at these words. Jingze Zhou was a godforsaken place where neither chickens laid eggs nor birds defecated, and the polluted water was almost unbearable. He had no desire to go there and suffer.

He had no choice; better him than me, he thought.

With sympathy, the protector glanced at Gu Xu, who was about to make his solemn oath, and the next moment he made his move.

And so the scene of Su Qingqing abruptly bursting into the room and interrupting Gu Xu’s confession ensued.

”Uh...”

Huo Sining, hearing the noise and not expecting Su Qingqing and the others to be secretly listening, awkwardly looked at the three intruders, feeling both annoyed and amused, and couldn’t help but turn to Gu Xu with a helpless smile.

Gu Xu’s entire face darkened. It was rare for him to have an epiphany, and he had been prepared to burn his boats; his plan was halfway to success when it was ruined by these intruders. How could his mood be anything but sour?

Gu Xu was so frustrated that he instinctively looked up at Madam Gu and the others.

Knowing she had spoiled her son’s big moment, Madam Gu’s face was stiff with embarrassment. When Gu Xu looked over, she forced a few awkward chuckles, ”Well, you two continue, continue. Son, Mom supports you unconditionally, haha.”

After speaking, the old granny turned and scampered off, fleeing faster than a rabbit.

”I’m going to wash dishes—”

”I’m going to drink water—”

Seeing Old Granny had run off, Su Qingqing and Auntie Li also came back to their senses, swiftly making their exits.

In the empty room, only the awkward duo remained. Gu Xu had wanted to go through with his confession in one go, but the atmosphere had long since evaporated. Where could he pick up from now?

”So, uh, Gu Xu, I’ve tidied up a corner of the room. You should sleep here tonight. I’ll go and clean up the adjoining guest room for Mrs. Gu.”

Disrupted by this, Huo Sining finally calmed down. She combed through her tangled thoughts, struggling to pull out a thread of reason.

Huo Sining stood up as she spoke, not saying another word as she walked out of the room, but as she passed by Gu Xu, she couldn’t help but let a smile curl at the corner of her lips.

Gu Xu was dumbfounded upon seeing this. He had, following online advice, bet all he had.

But why was Huo Sining’s reaction nothing like what the online strategists had described? There was no anger, no fury or blushing rage, nor was there the joy or tearful elation. Huo Sining seemed as nonchalant as ever, and her words were so composed. Could it be that his confession wasn’t good enough?

Like a deflated ball, Gu Xu sat on the bed, stunned.

How could Huo Sining be as undisturbed as she appeared? In truth, her heart was pounding uncontrollably, almost leaping into her throat.

Once she left the room and turned the corner, she couldn’t stop the smile on her face.

In her last life, she had been deceived by Zhao Mingcheng. That love, riddled with schemes, cost her her life, which is why in this lifetime, she was all the more cautious and hesitant with matters of the heart.

Even though she had developed feelings for Gu Xu in this life, she never dared to face them head-on, constantly reminding herself that a man like Gu Xu was beyond her aspirations.

Yet, what Huo Sining never expected was that, while she silently had feelings for Gu Xu, he too had developed genuine feelings for her.

Huo Sining wasn’t heartless. For a man like Gu Xu, who was both reticent and thin-skinned, for him to initiate a confession was indeed no easy task.

Thinking back on Gu Xu’s attempt at calm during his confession, Huo Sining couldn’t help but smile softly to herself.

”Oh, I was wondering where you had suddenly disappeared to. You’re here chuckling to yourself! I mean, the man poured out his heart, you could at least give him some kind of affirmative response. Poor Mr. Gu is probably still sitting in the room, and here you are, having run off.”

”Go on, he’s not mine.” The smile on Huo Sining’s face was clear, her rosy complexion a sure sign of a heart touched by spring.

Su Qingqing shook her head with a smile, teasingly, ”The internet calls Gu Xu the eternal icy, Gold bachelor, but him confessing to you is a once-in-a-millennium event. I’m at a loss as to what exactly he sees in you. If you really think he’s right for you, then you’d better seize the opportunity. Men like him are in high demand, so don’t be too picky. Miss the village, and you’ll miss the shop.”

Huo Sining couldn’t help but chuckle at Su Qingqing, her smile betraying a hint of jest, ”You’re one to talk, why not look at yourself? I’ve heard that lately, you’re always heading over to my Xianyu Shop. What’s the situation there?”

Su Qingqing’s gaze drifted evasively as she heard Huo Sining’s words, ”What situation? I’m just going over to your shop to look at the fish and, by the way, helping you look after the business.”

”Looking at fish? It seems to me that you’re there to look at someone.”

Huo Sining’s face beamed with a radiant smile, as though she had stumbled upon some delightful secret.
