Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 256: Chapter 253: The Person Who Drifted Over Chapter 256: Chapter 253: The Person Who Drifted Over “What’s wrong?”

Seeing Huo Sining’s gaze fixed on the sea, Gu Xu’s eyes paused and he couldn’t help but ask.

Huo Sining pointed to a black dot several nautical miles away, saying uncertainly, “There seems to be someone over there.”

Gu Xu was startled, followed Huo Sining’s finger, and sure enough, saw a black dot bobbing up and down in nearby waves, drifting closer and closer.

The yacht had set sail with the tide, but now they had to head back against the current, sailing in the opposite direction of the ocean current, directly towards the object floating on the sea.

So, the yacht hadn’t traveled far before it stopped, as the old captain also noticed the abnormality on the sea and hurriedly came out of the cabin to consult with Zheng Huaqing.

On the sea surface, not more than a few dozen meters away from their yacht, a piece of ragged driftwood floated with a lone figure lying on top of it.

Because the person was lying face down on the driftwood, it was impossible to see their face from the deck, but from the body shape, they could tell it should be a man, though his age and nationality were unclear.

It seemed the man may have fallen overboard from a fishing vessel accident, but they had been on the high seas for a day and night and had not received any news of a fishing vessel in distress.

Moreover, the weather on this part of the high seas had been good these days with no big winds or waves; an accident seemed unlikely, which raised a hint of suspicion in everyone’s eyes.

“Hey, buddy, can you make a noise? Where are you from?”

As the person drew closer, the old captain, prompted by Zheng Huaqing’s gesture, took up a megaphone and shouted towards the sea.

However, this seemed to be in vain, as the old captain’s voice boomed, but there was no response whatsoever.

Su Qingqing’s eyes were sharp. When the person was less than twenty meters from the yacht, she suddenly exclaimed, “This person seems to be injured! Look, there seems to be a very wide wound at his waist.”

On hearing this, everyone exchanged glances as Zheng Huaqing instinctively furrowed his brows.

This was the high seas, and Zheng Huaqing was cautious by nature, not someone who would rashly rescue just anyone, for fear of falling into a trap.

He carefully surveyed the surroundings, confirming there were no other vessels within several dozen nautical miles around the yacht, before he reluctantly looked at the person drifting towards them.

To save, or not to save?

“Being injured and bleeding at sea is a very serious matter; blood could attract man-eating sharks. We have no idea how long he’s been drifting at sea; if we don’t rescue him, he definitely won’t survive,” said Ouyang Jun in a deep voice, making everyone feel a chill in their hearts.

Gu Xu, a man of action, immediately took off his coat and jumped into the sea, with the cold sea water splashing several feet high.

It was the dead of winter, and the few people standing on the deck all felt a biting cold, let alone the person who had just plunged into the sea.

Huo Sining’s expression was a mix of shame and worry—shame because she had the Water-Repelling Pearl and could have gone in first, but Gu Xu with his mortal body had beaten her to it; worry because she wasn’t sure how he would fare jumping into the sea in the middle of winter.

After Gu Xu dove into the sea, the bone-chilling water engulfed him. Yet he had no time to worry about that, and with great effort, he swam towards the drifting survivor.

The person was carried by the currents, and if Gu didn’t swim quickly, they would soon pass by each other, making rescue all the more difficult.

It took some effort for Gu Xu to reach the piece of driftwood, and only then did he realize the man prostrate upon it was an Asian by the looks of his skin and features.

Gu Xu paused for a moment and then called out, but seeing no reaction, he reached out and probed the man’s breath. Finding a faint one, he immediately turned around and waved towards the yacht, then started to pull the driftwood closer to the vessel.

It wasn’t long before the crew, some trained in emergency first aid, had already brought a medical kit onboard to attend to the stranger’s wounds.

The others quickly gathered around, and as the crew stripped the survivor of his tattered clothes, exposing his injuries, everyone sharply inhaled at the sight.

Having changed into a dry set of warm clothing, Gu Xu returned and took in the cluster of jagged wounds scarring the man’s body. His eyes suddenly focused and he quickly examined the stranger’s wounds, his brow furrowing deeply as he said in a grave tone,

“The cuts were made by a blade, some of the wounds have scabbed over which shows they were not inflicted at the same time. This man must have been subjected to inhuman torture; excessive blood loss led to his fainting and shock. While he’s still breathing, he urgently needs a blood transfusion.”

“How could this happen, who could be so cruel, to torture a living person in such a perverse way?”

At Gu Xu’s words, Bai Yishan’s mind was suddenly filled with gruesome images, and she couldn’t help but cry out in shock.

It wasn’t just the women like Su Qingqing who were unsettled; even large men like Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian found the numerous four- to five-inch scars on the man’s body almost unbearable to behold.

Gu Xu and Song Hui, having military backgrounds and having witnessed even more brutal methods, remained expressionless, seemingly indifferent to the sight.

But as special forces operatives, they thought deeper and were more sensitive to such abnormalities. Exchanging a glance, they were both alert to the unusual circumstances surrounding the stranger’s appearance.

“Stop the nonsense for now. This man is seriously injured; it’s uncertain if he can last until we make it back to shore. Let’s focus on giving him emergency treatment first,” someone said.

Huo Sining’s eyes revealed a look of compassion as she was the first to think not of the man’s origins or how he was injured, but whether he could be saved.

Although the scars were a ghastly sight, the experienced old sailors were adept at treating wounds and quickly went about dressing and bandaging the man’s injuries with skilled hands.

“We’ve treated all his wounds with anti-inflammatories, but he’s lost a lot of blood. There’s no better solution than a blood transfusion. My skills are not sufficient, and we lack the emergency blood transfusion equipment on board. We’ll have to wait until we’re back on shore. For now, I can only administer some glucose. Whether he can survive this ordeal is up to fate,” the sailor explained.

Hearing the sailor’s words, everyone fell silent.

Meanwhile, Su Qingqing, who had been silent the whole time, had kept her eyes fixed on the man’s face since he was brought aboard. Now, with everyone quiet, she suddenly spoke up in the silent cabin room,

“This man is really handsome.”

Su Jinyuan’s expression immediately froze, and the others turned their heads, giving Su Qingqing strange looks.

Huo Si’s mouth twitched and she instinctively brought a hand to her forehead.

She knew her elder sister’s thought process was different from everyone else’s, her points of focus always diverging from the rest.
