Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 284: Chapter 281 Trapping the Brother-in-law

Xiao Zhang also felt that bringing this up was somewhat embarrassing, but even if he kept it quiet now, everyone would find out during the interrogation, so he simply chose not to hide it anymore.

”That man is a martial artist, Captain Liu’s finger bones were crushed by his bare hand.”

Upon hearing this, Li Wei felt a chill and subconsciously lifted his head to look at Gu Xu.

To crush finger bones with one hand, my goodness, which deity was this?

People working in the police force generally know how to read others; in their line of work, the most crucial thing is not to be heroic but to ensure their own safety.

Since Liu Ming joined the Luwan District Police Station, his career path had been smooth, rising from a beat cop to captain in just a year, with the support of a powerful uncle, and even the chief had to be polite to him; thus, he could do as he pleased in the station without anyone daring to rebut him.

But Li Wei was different; he rose from beat cop to squad leader then to big team leader step by step through solving cases and making achievements, so compared to Liu Ming, his ability to read situations and assess the times was sharper and more ruthless.

As soon as he heard Xiao Zhang saying that Gu Xu and the others had assaulted police officers, his first thought was not to arrest them but to scrutinize and reflect deeply.

Ordinary citizens wouldn’t clash with the police unless it was absolutely necessary, knowing they were weaker and could not win against the police, and were aware that commoners have no good ending when fighting against officials, so normally, common folks dare not strike police officers.

However, this person openly attacked the police and still appeared very calm and composed, clearly fearless and having strong backing.

With this in mind, Li Wei looked up again to assess the attire of Gu Xu and the other three.

Not to mention the clothes, just the jadeite ring the old granny wore and the watch on the man’s wrist were obviously worth a fortune.

Seeing their demeanor—bright and upright, full of wealthy composure, one could tell at a glance they were not ordinary citizens.

Realizing this, Li Wei subconsciously coughed twice and signaled to the several beat cops under him with his eyes.

The chattering beat cops immediately caught on, cleverly found an excuse to slip away, leaving only a few members from Liu Ming’s team.

Li Wei didn’t bother to remind Xiao Zhang, as he and Liu Ming didn’t get along.

In the Luwan District Police Station, Liu Ming was like an emperor under only one above and myriad below, with everything having to be decided by him.

There were only two big teams in the Luwan District, and for the sake of efficiency in handling cases, the teams were numbered and every month there was a case handling efficiency competition between them, which made for rivalry.

But what displeased Li Wei was that even though he held the same position as Liu Ming and he was more efficient in handling cases, Liu Ming’s bonus every month was several times his own.

Anyone experiencing this would feel discontent, and Li Wei was no exception.

The last time he spoke the truth that displeased Liu Ming, Liu Ming gave him a hard time, occasionally smearing his name in front of the chief, causing him to be called out and criticized several times and even have his salary docked.

Wary of the background of the person behind Liu Ming, Li Wei did not dare to confront Liu Ming openly, but he would certainly not be soft-hearted if there was a chance to bring Liu Ming down.

Seeing that Liu Ming’s patrol officers were about to enter the interrogation room with the record sheets, Li Wei would definitely not miss such a spectacle and leisurely sat in the corner of the office to watch the drama unfold.

Xiao Zhang straightened his tie and sat on the stool in the interrogation room, pulling out a record sheet with an all-business demeanor.

”Name?”

A mocking smile appeared on Gu Xu’s face, ”How amusing, you detain me without even knowing my name. Are you sure you haven’t arrested the wrong person? It seems like the police department’s procedures are out of order!”

Xiao Zhang probably had never dealt with such a prickly issue and immediately became annoyed, ”I advise you to be cooperative. This is a police station, not a place where you can run amok! If you don’t come clean about the fighting and assaulting an officer, you can forget about leaving!”

Gu Xu coldly watched the few police officers sitting or standing in front of him and smiled, saying:

”Even if I have to give a statement, shouldn’t there be more people than just us? Where’s Huo Biao and his crowd? I don’t see anything I need to explain, and moreover, I have the right to remain silent, right? If you insist on a statement, fine, let’s wait until my lawyer arrives!”

While he was speaking, Liu Ming came in through the door, and seeing that Gu Xu was impervious to influence and even mentioned getting a lawyer, Liu Ming became displeased, ”I advise you not to waste your effort!”

Gu Xu looked up at Liu Ming, the mockery in his eyes growing stronger.

”Let me tell you, lawyers don’t work around here. If we say you’ve broken the law, then you have, period. Even if there’s no evidence, we can find some for you! Kid, being in the world, you’ve got to have your wits about you, be sensible, got it?”

As if understanding Liu Ming’s words, Gu Xu chuckled ironically, ”Are you suggesting, Captain Liu sir, that I wasn’t insightful enough to see that you’re an important person I shouldn’t provoke?”

Liu Ming, not understanding the irony in Gu Xu’s words, said proudly:

”That’s correct. You could have provoked anyone else, but you were unlucky enough to provoke me.”

”Do you know who my uncle is? It would scare you to death! My uncle is none other than Deputy Director Hu Changlin of the S City Police Bureau!”

”I’m laying it out here today. If you can’t give me a satisfactory answer, then this matter won’t end!”

Gu Xu had thought that Liu Ming had some significant backing, but upon hearing that his uncle was the Deputy Director of the S City Police Bureau, he couldn’t help but laugh and cry, unconsciously glancing sideways at Huo Sining and his own family’s Old Granny, feeling somewhat helpless and amused.

He usually dealt with cunning, brutal, and vicious criminals in situations where danger was imminent. Now faced with such a petty character with inflated arrogance due to borrowed power, he genuinely lost interest, even feeling unenthusiastic about dealing with him.

It was simply a waste of his energy and time. For someone like this, he didn’t need to lift a finger.

”So you think having a powerful supporter means you can strut around, ignoring right or wrong, lawful or unlawful, and as long as we commoners provoke someone powerful like you, we have no choice but to suffer in silence? Otherwise, we’re seen as sightless and senseless and will be left with no good outcomes, right?”

Gu Xu found it tiresome, but Madam Gu was quite interested. In the Imperial Capital, everyone respected her, and no one had ever dared to speak so boldly in her presence. Encountering such an impudent youth, she found it quite refreshing and couldn’t help but want to play along a bit longer.
