Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 268: Chapter 265: Escape for Life

Seeing the street vendor’s deft movements, Huo Sining couldn’t help but be astonished, giving him a surprised look. She wondered whether he had prepared this escape route in advance.

Her suspicion was quickly confirmed when, after blocking the hole, the street vendor headed directly towards an alley. Walking along the wall not far, he arrived at a parking shed.

Seeing the vendor expertly find an electric motorcycle, take out the keys, unlock it, and get ready to ride away, Huo Sining naturally couldn’t let him escape that easily and hurriedly ran up to grab his hand, ”Hey, you’re just going to leave like that?”

The vendor jerked to a stop as if only now remembering the ”tail” he had following him. He forced a bitter smile and said, ”Big sister, we’ve shared a hardship together. Can’t you just let me go?”

But Huo Sining was relentless, ”Why were those men chasing you so desperately just now?”

The street vendor cautiously looked up at Huo Sining, hesitated for a moment, and then said, ”That man bought a dish from me.”

”A dish? What kind of dish?” Huo Sining asked in surprise.

”Blue and White Porcelain with Red Glaze.”

Huo Sining didn’t understand the names of these antiques, but she figured anything sold by this fellow had to be fake; otherwise, those men wouldn’t be pursuing him so fervently, weapons in hand.

Huo Sining had to ask more directly, ”Exactly how much did you con them out of?”

The street vendor remained silent for a while before awkwardly gesturing a number.

Uh...

Huo Sining’s mouth twitched, and she cursed inwardly that he deserved to be chased, but then she remembered him previously saying his grandmother was seriously ill, felt a twinge of sympathy, and reconfirmed, ”Is your grandmother really ill?”

The vendor nodded, the light in his eyes gradually dimming.

Moved by compassion, Huo Sining asked, ”Did you lose a Tourmaline Ring? I bumped into you on the street earlier, and your stuff fell out. I picked up a Tourmaline Ring but didn’t have the chance to return it to you before you ran off.”

The vendor was taken aback, then slapped his head as if he had only just recognized Huo Sining, and couldn’t help exclaiming, ”Good gracious, could you be mistaken? You chased me for so long, and you’re telling me it wasn’t because I swindled you, but to ask about this?”

Huo Sining nodded, and the vendor gave her a look as if she were insane, then, waving his hand dismissively, he said, ”It’s just a ring. Fake anyway. If you found it, keep it. It’s yours!”

”Dammit, there’s a hole here, blocked by a board!”

Huo Sining was about to ask more when suddenly, she heard those men’s voices from the other side of the wall, having discovered the dog hole in the pile of junk.

The vendor was clearly terrified, shaking as he stuffed the snakeskin bag onto the step plate of the motorcycle.

”Quick, quick, quick, we’ll talk later, you get on first!”

The street vendor waved at Huo Sining and quickly started the motorcycle.

”Someone’s blocked it with something over there; we have to push it aside!”

More voices came from within the wall, and without thinking further, Huo Sining didn’t say another word and hopped onto the vendor’s motorcycle.

As soon as she settled in, the vendor floored the throttle, and the motorcycle shot out, scaring Huo Sining into grabbing hold of the vendor’s clothing to avoid being thrown off.

Riding on the man’s motorcycle at breakneck speed, Huo Sining only felt her cheeks being slashed by the knife-like cold wind, making it difficult even to breathe, let alone speak.

The hawker seemed scared that the people behind would catch up, constantly speeding up on the road until he merged into the traffic and crowd on the main road. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief, his speed gradually slowing down.

By the time the motorcycle stopped, Huo Sining felt her whole body shaking unconsciously, her face numb as if it didn’t belong to her.

During the ride, Huo Sining gradually came back to her senses. She felt like she was making a fool of herself. The trickster hawker had swindled someone’s money, naturally needing to escape, but why did she run along? She hadn’t swindled anyone’s money, yet, she ended up in such a disheveled state that it made others think she was in cahoots with the hawker.

But now, whatever she said was useless; she had already been dragged to the entrance of the hospital by the hawker.

”Finally didn’t get caught, scared the living daylights out of me.”

The hawker glanced at the traffic, took a long breath, then turned his head back and only then noticed the shivering, numb Huo Sining behind him, which made him startled, ”Why did you come along?”

Huo Sining: ...&&...￥#...

Wasn’t it you who told me to get on? If you hadn’t called me, would I have fled with you?

Blown by the cold wind for such a long time, she was close to collapsing. Now, he casually asks why she’s there?

Huo Sining felt her face turning green, a breath felt stuck in her chest, which she couldn’t swallow down nor spit out.

Only then did the hawker recall the prior events, realizing it was his fault for having Huo Sining flee with him. He suddenly felt a bit ashamed, scratching the back of his head, ”Sorry about that, they were after me. Actually, you didn’t need to run with me.”

Huo Sining huffed on her palms to warm them up, the hawker checked the items in the snakeskin bag, suddenly thought of something, and raising his head, he asked, ”Right, you said that you bumped into me on the street and picked up something? What was it?”

Huo Sining replied, ”A ring, a Tourmaline Ring.”

”A ring? That’s strange, I never accepted anything like that. I usually sell bigger items. Tourmaline doesn’t fetch a good price, and ordinary people wouldn’t come to our small stalls for that. Even if it was given to me, I wouldn’t want it. Are you sure you’re not mistaken?”

The hawker paused, then carefully thought back, confirming he indeed hadn’t accepted any Tourmaline Ring. He then shook his head, denying it outright.

Hearing this, Huo Sining was stunned. She had indeed picked up the ring on the street. After she bumped into the hawker, the items scattered all over the place, and it was among those messy things that she found the ring. Why was the hawker denying it?

Huo Sining lifted her head to look at the hawker. His expression was normal, not like he was lying.

This made Huo Sining feel puzzled. If the ring wasn’t the hawker’s, whose could it be? Others might not know, but she was very aware that the Tourmaline Ring was no ordinary object—it housed a storage space of four to five cubic meters.

With uncertainty brewing in her heart and wanting to ask more, at that moment, the hawker’s mobile phone in his pocket rang.

”I’m gazing afar, above the moon, where so many dreams are flying freely in their awakening...”

Er...

As she recognized the familiar ringtone, Huo Sining’s mouth twitched, and her eyes carried a hint of amusement directed at the hawker, wanting to laugh but not daring to.

The song was too catchy, much like the Chopstick Brothers’ ”Little Apple” that would become a hit a few years later.

But in the next instant, Si Ning could no longer laugh.

From the bootleg phone in the hawker’s hand, a clear and cold voice came through, piercingly reaching Huo Sining’s eardrums and instantly changing both their complexions.
