Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 251: Chapter 248: The secret to plain white rice? Chapter 251: Chapter 248: The secret to plain white rice? Meat maggots, also known as maggot sprouts, are a natural fishing bait loved by many fish species.

Their bodies are a striking white and are rich in protein, offering a fresh and mellow taste; some people with a taste for strong flavors even eat meat maggots raw, but for many girls, these creatures can be quite intimidating and even nauseating.

In fact, meat maggots are more effective than earthworms as baits; once the maggot is fixed onto the hook without breaking, it can continuously catch multiple fish without the need for changing bait, yielding much more significant catches than earthworms.

For beginners, bait is certainly the most important factor, but for seasoned fishermen like Zheng Huaqing, it is not as much of a concern.

On regular days, when he goes fishing he rarely brings live bait; to these people, the fun of fishing is to catch their own bait, showing their real skills only in this way.

However, the meat maggots he brought this time were specifically prepared for Gu Xu and his group. Ouyang Jun naturally did not hesitate to immediately hook up the maggots he was given, and even Su Jinyuan and Qin Tian were not far behind, scrambling for the maggots.

Gu Xu hesitated for a moment and also planned to go and get some, but was stopped by Huo Sining.

“Let them fight over them. I have my own methods!”

With a hint from Zheng Huaqing, Huo Sining already had a plan in mind.

She didn’t want to use the Spiritual Energy of Azure Pearl, but now she and Gu Xu were clearly at a disadvantage. If she lost to Ouyang Jun, she would be validating his claim that women are no good at this, which irked Huo Sining. She decided to pull out some tricks to make Ouyang Jun admit defeat, and to let him see what she was capable of.

Huo Sining would never admit that she was cheating; she just wanted to let Ouyang Jun know that women are not to be trifled with.

Turning around to go back into the cabin, Huo Sining asked the kitchen for a lump of white rice and put it in a porcelain bowl before carrying it out of the cabin.

“Huo Sining, you’re not going to tell me you plan to fish with this, are you?”

Seeing Huo Sining carrying a bowl, Ouyang Jun turned his head and saw the white rice in the bowl, his mouth twitching and a strange expression on his face.

Huo Sining nodded, smiling enigmatically, “Why not, You all use meat maggots, why can’t we use white rice? It’s like the Eight Immortals crossing the sea, each showing their divine powers. As long as it can catch fish, it’s fine. Besides, there wasn’t a rule set beforehand saying we couldn’t use different baits.”

Ouyang Jun was speechless for a moment, and Zheng Huaqing, acting as the judge, spoke up, “That’s acceptable, the competition didn’t specify that white rice couldn’t be used as bait. However, Miss Huo, sea fish differ from freshwater fish, sea fishing occurs at greater depths, and the aroma of rice doesn’t travel far; your bait might be even less effective than earthworms.”

After hearing Zheng Huaqing’s reminder, Ouyang Jun couldn’t help but chime in, “Exactly, what you are doing is completely futile, those sea fish won’t want to eat your rice.”

Huo Sining smiled, “That’s not for you to worry about. As long as the rice can be used, whether it’s a futile effort or not, we’ll know soon!”

Seeing Huo Sining’s mysterious expression, Ouyang Jun couldn’t shake off a foreboding feeling.

Seeing Huo Sining carrying out a bowl of rice residue, both Su Qingqing and Bai Yishan looked on curiously, but Huo Sining didn’t explain much. After reaching the bow of the boat, she flashed a smile at Gu Xu and pointed to the rice residue in her hand, saying,

“We’ll use this ball of rice as bait in a bit.”

Gu Xu looked at the lump of white rice with a peculiar expression and hesitated, “Will this thing really work?”

Huo Sining replied with a smile,

“`

“You can’t catch fish without sacrificing some enticing bait. Soon, they’ll get a taste of the secret recipe my master left me!”

Gu Xu was startled when he heard Huo Sining’s words, but then he quickly understood.

Huo Sining had tampered with the rice.

Although Gu Xu had his doubts, he didn’t voice them.

He knew that Huo Sining was an expert at fish raising, and had also heard from Ouyang Jun about her miraculous fish-saving skills, so he didn’t doubt the authenticity of the secret recipe she mentioned.

It was just that she was willing to use her family’s secret technique, which showed how determined the girl was to win this competition.

He couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow and smirk inwardly, feeling a deep sympathy for Ouyang Jun.

That’ll teach you to be arrogant, there’s no good ending when you’ve offended a woman.

Over there, Ouyang Jun and Song Hui were having a blast fishing. Their bucket already contained four or five fish, and even Su Jinyuan and Qin Tian had their share of the catch, while only Huo Sining and Gu Xu’s group still had an empty fish basket.

Huo Sining was in no hurry, leisurely pressing the rice into little balls and stealthily infusing Spiritual Energy into the center of each ball. Only after ensuring each rice ball was firm enough not to break when hung on the hook did she nod, signaling Gu Xu to lift the fishing rod.

The new bait was quickly submerged in the water, and over there, Ouyang Jun could hardly contain his laughter: “Look, Xu Zi, you might as well not bother. There’s no way you can beat us today. Just look at how many we’ve caught, you can’t catch up even if you flogged the horses. You should just admit defeat.”

“Exactly, this is sea fishing, not freshwater. You guys are trying to feed these fish rice balls—is this a joke?” Song Hui echoed mockingly.

Hearing the taunts from the pair, Huo Sining didn’t take it to heart. She grabbed a small rice ball herself, hooked it, and carelessly swung her fishing rod into the water.

At that moment, Ouyang Jun felt his fishing rod dip and his heart leaped with excitement. While pulling at the rod, he shouted to everyone, “Got another bite; this one’s really tugging hard, must be a big fish!”

Seeing Ouyang Jun hook another fish, Su Qingqing and Bai Yishan grew anxious: “How come there are no bites yet? So strange. Is our spot not good? It feels like all the fish have gone to the stern!”

Su Qingqing and Bai Yishan’s groups were both situated midship, sandwiched between Huo Sining and Ouyang Jun.

Originally, after they replaced their bait with maggots, they quickly got bites, but now, either their luck had run out, or their skills were lacking, because after the initial catch, there were no more bites.

“Don’t worry, just wait a bit longer. You can’t rush fishing; you’ve got to be patient!”

Seeing Su Qingqing’s impatience, Qin Tian felt a headache coming on while he kept his eyes on the bobber and comforted her.

Ouyang Jun’s rod kept sinking, and he was ecstatic, knowing that he must have snagged a big fish. He couldn’t resist showing off to the others, smugly jeering:

“It’s not the bait that’s the problem; it’s your poor skills! Watch big brother here land a Golden Spearfish to show you all!”

Ouyang Jun kept showing off while battling the fish in the water, his face brimming with a smile he couldn’t hide.

However, in less than thirty seconds of casting and reeling, the immense force that had been tugging on the line suddenly vanished into nothingness.
