Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 285: Chapter 282 Little Traitor

If Liu Ming knew that the two people in front of him were playing him for a fool, he would surely explode with rage.

He had no idea that his much-prided brother-in-law, the Deputy Director of the police bureau, whom he thought so highly of and all-powerful in his eyes, was simply not worth mentioning to Gu Xu and Madam Gu.

”What do you mean by not distinguishing between right and wrong, black and white? Are you suggesting that I am wrongfully accusing you of assaulting police officers and brawling?”

”I can’t be bothered to argue with you anymore. I heard that you, Miss Huo Sining, have opened a store near Chenghuang Temple. Coincidentally, my wife has been wanting to open a store too, but unfortunately, she hasn’t found a suitable shop.”

”Fighting and brawling are trivial matters, but assaulting an officer is serious. I believe Miss Huo is a reasonable person. If you want me to let you go, you’ll have to make me happy, you understand what I mean?”

Liu Ming looked directly at Huo Sining, as casually as if he had just commented on the pleasant weather today.

The meaning of Liu Ming’s words was clear: if they wanted to get out, they would have to satisfy him. What does satisfy mean? His wife wants to open a shop and hasn’t found a spot yet, and apparently, he has set his sights on your property. Well then, just give up the shop and that’ll do.

This brazen shamelessness actually amused Huo Sining. She looked at Liu Ming and asked with a laugh, ”Captain Liu, isn’t your appetite a bit too big?”

Liu Ming didn’t feel the slightest embarrassment; instead, he took it for granted, ”I’m a police officer. Now that my hand is injured and I can’t hold a gun, I’ll need to rest for a long time. The medical expenses and compensation for emotional distress amount to more than this, huh?”

Huo Sining found it funny and was about to say something when suddenly the Old Granny’s phone rang. Madam Gu was startled and answered the call. An anxious voice came through, ”Mom, where are you? Dad said he hasn’t seen you since last night. Is Xuan Xuan with you?”

Madam Gu felt guilty upon hearing Chen Yu’s voice, her daughter-in-law, on the phone. Subconsciously, she looked up at Gu Xu and said awkwardly, ”Yes, Xuan Xuan is with me. He... he said he wanted to see his uncle, so I brought the child over to find his uncle.”

”Ah? You are with Xiao Xu?” Chen Yu was surprised, ”You’re not there to give Xiao Xu advice, are you? I’ve told you not to get involved in this matter. Xiao Xu has his own plans, and if you rush over there without warning, you might end up startling them and actually do harm than good!”

Madam Gu immediately bristled at these words, ”What are you talking about? I’m right here with the Huo girl, and we’re getting along just fine!”

”The Huo girl? Xiao Xu’s girlfriend has the last name Huo? I don’t recall any prominent families in the Imperial Capital with that surname,” Chen Yu frowned, unconsciously scanning her memory for all the wealthy young ladies in the Imperial Capital.

Madam Gu laughed, ”She’s not from the Imperial Capital, we’re in S City.”

”S City?!” Chen Yu suddenly became alarmed, ”Why did you go there?!”

Only then did Madam Gu realize she had let something slip, and she stammered in an attempt to change the subject, ”Well, we just flew over here. Do you want to talk to Xuan Xuan? Come on, say hi to your mom.”

As she said this, Madam Gu handed the phone directly to Little Bun, who immediately showed eight baby teeth in a smile and said, ”Mommy.”

”Son, why did you and grandma run off to S City?” Chen Yu sounded a bit helpless and worried on the other end.

Gu Xuan Xu boasted, ”I came to visit uncle and auntie. Mommy, let me tell you, uncle is so powerful, even the police officers couldn’t beat him. We’re now at the police station, talking to the police officers.”

Chen Yu froze as soon as she heard this, and quickly realized something was off, ”Police station? Why did you go there? What did you just say, your uncle hit the police?”

”Yeah, someone was bullying Auntie, Uncle and Grandma beat up the bad guys, then the policeman came, and he wanted to arrest Uncle, but Uncle beat up the policeman too. The policeman was no match for Uncle, Uncle knocked him down with one move and he was howling in pain, it was so lame.”

Chen Yu’s head went blank after hearing this, although her son rattled off the story like a tongue twister, she understood it nonetheless.

Simply put, her young brother-in-law had hit a police officer and was then invited to the police station for a cup of tea.

Chen Yu suddenly felt a twitch in her eyelid, and her heart felt like it was about to burst out.

Although she wasn’t particularly worried that her mother-in-law and brother-in-law would be at a disadvantage, these people were just too unreliable!

Having been married into the Gu Family for so many years, Chen Yu was well aware of Madam Gu’s temperament; the old lady was like a firecracker, ready to explode at the slightest provocation. It was hard to say who had managed to incur the wrath of someone who was clearly looking for trouble.

But Chen Yu was feeling down as well. It was one thing for the adults to be playful, but why bring a child into the police station? Wasn’t this setting a bad example for the child?

She didn’t want her son to grow up to be a carefree, fearless playboy of a hereditary family! If in the future she had to collect someone from the station every other day, it would surely be the death of her.

With this in mind, Chen Yu suddenly had an idea and after a moment’s thought, she picked up her cell phone and dialed a number.

At the other end, Madam Gu, having hung up the phone, had a sheepish look on her face, appearing somewhat vexed but also helpless as she glanced at a certain little traitor and shrugged at her son, ”Well, Yu found out, no more fun to be had, the old man is sure to scold us once we’re back.”

Gu Xu had no idea what to do with the mischievous old granny of his family and said with a laugh and a cry, ”Haven’t had enough fun yet, eh? If we don’t leave now, do you really plan to stay overnight?”

The old lady shrugged carelessly, while Liu Ming had already been driven to a furious state on the other side. It had been so long since he entered the interrogation room and had made no progress in questioning, and was outright ignored by these people.

”Show some respect,” Liu Ming said, ”This is a police station, not a place for your family squabbles!”

Liu Ming had been in Luwan District for over a year, working as a police officer, interrogating countless cases. It was the first time that he encountered such tough nuts to crack. He made it clear that as long as they compensated for a shop, the matter could be settled privately, but these individuals simply didn’t take him seriously!

Liu Ming was at his wit’s end. He was just about to get Xiao Zhang to employ some measures when the phone on the desk outside the door rang.

It was already after office hours, and at this time, besides their squad, only a few police officers were present, so naturally, they were the ones to answer the phone.

Li Wei, sitting in a corner pretending to work overtime, pricked up his ears, watching the phone with a flicker in his eyes as if he had an inkling of what was happening.

The phone rang five or six times before one of the officers lackadaisically picked it up: ”Hello, this is the Luwan District Police Station. May I know how we can assist you?”

On the other end, Director Fu was in a state of desperate agitation, and hearing the indifferent attitude of the person answering the phone, which felt like he was hardly breathing, immediately got on his nerves and angered him.
