Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 290: Chapter 287: The Secretary’s Assistant Arrives

Hu Changlin arrived at Huo Biao’s residence just as Huo Biao was lying in bed flirting with Xue Jingjing over the phone.

With one kick, Hu Changlin burst through his door, barely containing his anger as he pointed at Huo Biao and commanded:

”Get up for me, now!”

Huo Biao, still oblivious to the trouble he had caused, was pleased to see it was Hu Changlin: ”Director Hu, what brings you here? Have a seat!”

Hu Changlin was infuriated:

”Sit my ass, sit. I don’t care what you’re thinking, but you have one minute to come with me to the Luwan District Police Station, immediately!”

Huo Biao was clueless: ”Huh?”

”What ’huh’? You and your pals got into a fight at S University today, didn’t you?” Hu Changlin said sharply.

Huo Biao finally caught on and dismissed it casually: ”Oh, those people? Didn’t Mingzi Ge have them arrested? Don’t worry, they’re just small fry, they can’t stir up any real trouble.”

Hu Changlin felt dizzy at his response, his voice cold: ”Just an hour ago, the Military District Headquarters, Imperial Capital Propaganda Department, and the Special Forces all called the police headquarters, saying that a man surnamed Gu was arrested by us and demanding his immediate release.”

”Half an hour ago, Secretary Su of the Municipal Committee personally called Director Fu Yuanshan, saying his niece was taken away by the police while eating at S University Snack Street.”

Hu Changlin’s voice eerily carried through the air, petrifying Huo Biao: ”You really think you’re something, huh? Claiming they were just small fry when they’ve got the military, political, and police circles stirred up. Do they sound like nobodies to you?”

Fear flashed across Huo Biao’s eyes: ”That woman surnamed Huo, she’s Secretary Su’s niece? Impossible, Du Yanlin said she was an orphan, her school records say so!”

Hu Changlin’s voice grew hoarse: ”I wish this were false, but Secretary Su is naming her specifically for us to take care of her, even if it’s not true, she’s still not someone you can afford to mess with!”

”Then... what should we do now?” Huo Biao was completely panicked, terrified, and at a loss.

”Apologize, and be sincere about it.”

Beyond an apology, Hu Changlin couldn’t think of any other solution, thankfully the ancestors they fought hadn’t been seriously injured, unlike Huo Biao and Liu Ming, who sustained heavy injuries. Otherwise, today’s incident wouldn’t have been so easily resolved.

”Right, also bring along those three university students who dined with you tonight. I suspect you were used as a pawn. Did those three students have any conflict with the Secretary’s niece?” Hu Changlin suddenly remembered something and reminded him.

Huo Biao’s face paused, and he frowned as he meticulously recalled the events of the evening, quickly zeroing in on the woman Du Yanlin as the culprit.

”That Du Yanlin is quite malicious. She was the one who stirred up this whole mess. She told us that Huo Sining had opened a shop in the Chenghuang Temple area and hinted to Mingzi Ge that Huo Sining was a helpless orphan, which led Mingzi Ge to target that shop.”

Hu Changlin looked at Huo Biao as if he were looking at an idiot. ”Have you all lost your minds? If someone is a helpless orphan, could they run a shop at Chenghuang Temple? How could you not understand such a simple matter at the time? Has the smell of cat pee made you so dizzy that you’ve forgotten yourselves? Really think you’ve become hotshots?!”

When Hu Changlin arrived at the Luwan District Police Station with Huo Biao and those college students, Du Yanlin still couldn’t believe it. She never expected that Huo Sining, who she thought was despicable, turned out to be the niece of the secretary of the Municipal Committee!

Just as several people got out of the car, another vehicle pulled up, and a man in a suit hurriedly got out and made his way to the police station. When Hu Changlin saw the newcomer, his pupils shrank, and he called out subconsciously, ”Secretary Song?!”

Secretary Song paused in his steps, turned back to see Hu Changlin, and his face inevitably cooled. ”Is that Director Hu? What brings you here?”

Seeing the expression on Secretary Song’s face, Hu Changlin knew what he was thinking and couldn’t help but show a bitter smile. ”Don’t treat me so coldly. My brother-in-law lacks sense and has stirred up trouble, so as his brother-in-law, how could I not get involved?”

Secretary Song’s expression softened a lot when he heard Hu Changlin’s words. He glanced at the people behind Hu Changlin and said in a low voice:

”I am here for this matter. Your brother-in-law has offended someone who is not to be taken lightly. That Gu Xu has a special status; even the secretary has to be wary of him, not to mention you and me.”

”Could you please show me a clear path? I have no other choice. This matter involves not only my brother-in-law but also my reputation. If it isn’t handled properly, my position will be at its end,” Hu Changlin felt helpless.

Secretary Song had a generally good impression of Hu Changlin, except for a brother-in-law who had brought him trouble. No matter how capable Hu Changlin was, he would be unlucky. Hu Changlin had been in the position of the deputy director of the police station for two or three years, and it would be a pity to see him destroyed like this.

”Let me give you the lowdown on this matter. I’ve met Miss Huo at the secretary’s residence. You know about the investment by the Zhou Financial Consortium in S City two months ago, right? Miss Huo played an indispensable role in the secretary’s ability to pull in that investment of two billion yuan.”

”Besides that, Miss Huo’s status in Secretary Su’s family is the same as his own daughter. You know what that means, right? Although Gu Xu is formidable, today’s incident started because of Miss Huo. As Miss Huo’s friend, Mr. Gu will certainly not overstep his bounds. If you want to resolve this issue, it’s simple—you need to obtain Miss Huo’s forgiveness.”

Hu Changlin suddenly saw the light. He turned and gave a few instructions to Huo Biao and the others before following Secretary Song into the station.

Upon entering, Hu Changlin saw an odd scene.

A group of soldiers in camouflage surrounded the police station. On the office chairs, both Gu Xu and Huo Sining wore handcuffs, with one quite cheerfully filing her nails, while the other focused on amusing Little Bun.

Next to the two sat an elderly woman well past her fifties, chatting enthusiastically with a soldier.

Upon seeing Secretary Song come in, Fu Yuanshan hurriedly went to greet him. ”Secretary Song, you’ve arrived! About this matter...”

Secretary Song gestured with his hand. ”I am here to supervise on behalf of Secretary Su. Just deal with this matter according to the proper procedure. Director Fu, you are part of the police system, and you are more familiar with the normal procedures. I will just watch from the sidelines.”

Director Fu’s face stiffened upon hearing this. Although Secretary Song said he wanted a fair handling of the situation, he then walked straight over to where Huo Sining was. He warmly greeted Huo Sining and Gu Xu, clearly performing for those present, representing Secretary Su’s attitude toward the situation.

At that moment, Hu Changlin, following behind Secretary Song, entered with Huo Biao and Du Yanlin, several of those involved, dragging their feet. Everyone looked up and turned their eyes to the door.
