Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 291: Chapter 288 Apology

Army soldiers, policemen, the head of the police station, the director, the secretary’s secretary—so many people staring straight over here.

Even Huo Biao, who had always feared nothing under the heavens, instinctively shrank his neck, and his entire face turned pale with fright.

Not to mention Zhu Jianliang and the other two, who had never been out in society since they were still in school, they were trembling and as silent as cicadas in winter.

After all, Du Yanlin was just a girl not yet twenty, capable of little tricks among ordinary students, but where had she ever seen such a display of force?

She had regretted it deeply after looking at Huo Sining’s student records.

Huo Sining was just an orphan with neither father nor mother, not worthy of fear.

Du Yanlin felt that if she had refused to admit her fault back then, there would have been no need to pay that five thousand, blaming her own lack of courage for being deceived by Huo Sining’s few words.

Because of this incident, Du Yanlin had come to thoroughly hate Huo Sining, which is why she took the opportunity to seek trouble for Huo Sining after meeting Huo Biao, even deliberately revealing Huo Sining’s background to Liu Ming, hoping to take the store run by Huo Sining away from her.

But she could never have imagined that this orphan girl, who seemed to her to have no background or capability, turned out to be the city committee secretary’s niece!

A deep sense of powerlessness surged up from the bottom of Du Yanlin’s heart, fear, regret, resentment, jealousy, each complex emotion flashing through her mind one by one, and while Du Yanlin couldn’t find any words to describe her feelings at the moment, she knew that this time she had truly offended someone untouchable.

Xue Jingjing’s expression was also frozen, as she had only joined in Du Yanlin’s folly without realizing things would get this serious.

Zhu Jianliang and Huo Biao, however, wished they could kill Du Yanlin at this point, if it hadn’t been for this despicable woman, how would they have ever taken it upon themselves to offend two such powerful figures?

”Miss Huo, I’m sorry, it was my fault. I was possessed by a moment of foolishness and believed someone else’s instigation, which led to Skinny Monkey troubling you. I hope Miss Huo can be magnanimous and forgive me this once!”

”Sorry, Miss Huo, we were blind and offended you. We definitely won’t dare to target you again in the future!”

Huo Biao and Liu Ming were both far from unyielding, bowing and scraping until they were almost kneeling to apologize.

Zhu Jianliang and Xue Jingjing were also hastily echoing behind Huo Biao and Liu Ming, though they repeated the same lines, their expressions clearly showed they were scared out of their wits, with only fear and regret in their eyes.

Huo Sining gave a faint smile, her gaze landing on Du Yanlin.

With a sense of frustrated reluctance in her heart, Du Yanlin realized the situation was far beyond what a small character like her could deal with. If she showed defiance, it was likely not only she who would suffer the consequences, but her family could be implicated as well. Thinking this, Du Yanlin subconsciously shuddered, concealing the jealousy and resentment in her eyes toward Huo Sining, and humbled herself:

”I’m sorry.” At this moment, Du Yanlin’s face was utterly stiff as she forced out these three humiliating words.

After saying this, tears ran down Du Yanlin’s face, and she inwardly vowed, Huo Sining, I, Du Yanlin, shall make you pay back a hundredfold for today’s humiliation!

Seeing Du Yanlin’s sobbing start, Xue Jingjing finally snapped back to reality. It was her first time witnessing such a scene, and she was truly frightened, so when she heard Du Yanlin crying, she couldn’t help but start crying as well.

The crowd fell silent upon seeing this, looking at Huo Biao and Liu Ming among the injured, and the sobbing female college students, sympathy apparent in everyone’s eyes.

They had been beaten and still had to sincerely apologize; these people were really unlucky. But who could they blame? They hadn’t been careful and had offended two ”Bodhisattvas.”

Only Huo Sining understood that with Du Yanlin’s temperament, it was impossible for her to yield so easily. Her tears were more likely out of reluctance and a desire to garner sympathy, not genuine remorse.

Even if she was reluctant, Huo Sining didn’t care, as after this incident, they would certainly not dare to provoke her again!

Seeing that Huo Sining hadn’t spoken, Hu Changlin hurriedly took the initiative to admit fault:

”Miss Huo, I also bear an undeniable responsibility for this matter. Liu Ming is my brother-in-law, and I failed to notice and properly guide his misuse of authority, causing an affront to both of you. I hope Miss Huo can give him a chance to reform. He is young and impulsive, but he will definitely not dare to act rashly after this incident!”

Who cared if he would act rashly in the future or not?!

Huo Sining was inwardly criticizing, wishing she could roll her eyes openly.

She didn’t believe Hu Changlin’s words. Liu Ming had been acting arrogantly under his name; Hu Sining would never believe that Hu Changlin was so oblivious. These were merely excuses and pretexts from Hu Changlin.

Huo Sining looked indifferently at Hu Changlin, ”Deputy Director Hu, you don’t need to say this to me. I’ve said before, all I want is a sincere apology from them. As for how this matter is handled afterward, that is a matter for the police department, and I, a common citizen, have no right to interfere.”

Huo Sining was just an ordinary person, and she was very clear about her own status. Even with so many people coming forward for her, she did not get carried away.

Huo Sining had a certain disdain for these officials. They were the type who would be haughty in power and disdainful to those below them, calling themselves public servants, but few would actually work for the common people.

She understood that they stood up for her because they regarded the Su Family and Gu Family’s standing. If it weren’t for the strong backing of the Su and Gu families, and if she were not related to them, as a girl alone without support, she would be at the mercy of these people.

Huo Sining was satisfied and turned her head to nod at Gu Xu and Madam Gu. Madam Gu’s expression didn’t change, but her eyes revealed satisfaction.

Although it was a minor incident, Huo Sining’s composure and the way she handled it with such grace and poise pleased Madam Gu. It seemed her son’s judgment was quite good.

”The apology has been made, and Deputy Director Hu has spoken. For his sake, we will let this matter go today. However, I still have a few words to say, and I hope some people will remember one thing: there’s always someone stronger, there are heavens beyond our view. The world does not revolve around you, and there are people you can’t afford to offend. If you don’t possess ultimate power, please think thrice before you act, so you don’t do something you regret for the rest of your life!”

Gu Xu’s words were a warning and a reminder, not only for Huo Biao and his group but even He Haidong and Hu Changlin’s faces fluctuated between shades of green and white.

These people used the authority in their hands to satisfy their own desires, resorting to threats and oppression when faced with issues. Only after crossing someone they shouldn’t have, did they learn to write the word ”fear.”
