Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 282: Chapter 279 Old Cow Eating Tender Grass

Madam Gu was somewhat surprised to see Huo Sining calmly hanging up the phone.

In fact, after hearing from her daughter-in-law that her youngest son had someone he liked, she was quite pleased and even organized a few family members to perform a ’three-hall trial’ on her youngest son.

Gu Xu was approaching thirty and had yet to show any signs of being in a relationship, which made her worry whether her son might prefer men. But now, at least, she knew her son’s orientation was normal, and she certainly supported him fully.

After learning that his son was unrequitedly in love and that the girl had not yet agreed, Master Gu gave his son three months to bring a girlfriend home to meet the parents.

However, Madam Gu was even more anxious than her husband. Forget three months, she felt even thirty days was too much. After enduring a month and seeing no action from Gu Xu’s side, the old lady couldn’t keep her patience any longer.

With nothing else to do but look after her grandson at home, the one thing the old lady didn’t lack was time. One day, while idling away, Little Bun casually mentioned, ”I haven’t seen uncle for a long time, I want to play with uncle.” In a spark of inspiration amid her urgency, the old lady suddenly had an idea.

She quietly inquired about her son’s recent whereabouts and, noticing he was always running off to S City, she immediately concluded that the future daughter-in-law must be in S City!

So, taking advantage of when her husband and daughter-in-law were not paying attention, Madam Gu stealthily took her grandson to the airport and flew directly to S City, where they stayed in the same hotel as her son to closely monitor his every move.

As it happened, the day before Gu Xu and Huo Sining went fishing at sea, where Huo Sining asked, ”Do you like me?” Caught off guard, Gu Xu fled without giving a straight answer. Later, when he finally mustered the courage to confess to Huo Sining, he had to leave early due to some special circumstances.

Gu Xu was annoyed with himself for missing a good opportunity, but when he thought about confessing his feelings to Huo Sining again, he began to hesitate.

After agonizing over it for a whole day in the hotel, Gu Xu finally decided to go see Huo Sining at the villa where she was staying, only to be met with a call from Wu Jun just as he reached the entrance of the villa community.

Upon hearing that Huo Sining had run into trouble at a restaurant outside S University, Gu Xu rushed there without a second thought. Meanwhile, having spent an entire day on lookout in the hotel, the old lady was thrilled and followed her son to S University Snack Street, leading to the previous scene.

Of course, although Madam Gu was open-minded, she was actually quite conservative and traditional in certain respects.

The moment she saw Huo Sining, she was internally crumbling.

This was nothing like what she had imagined.

She assumed her son’s love interest would be at least a 26- or 27-year-old lady, or at the very least in her early twenties.

When her son mentioned that his sweetheart was at S University, she naturally assumed the girl worked there. But now, it seemed she had completely misunderstood by taking things for granted.

This was just a teenage girl, and she wasn’t even sure if the girl was of legal age yet. So her son liked this type of little Lolita—wasn’t this an old cow eating tender grass?!

Madam Gu had previously told a few old ladies from her neighborhood during their morning exercises that her son had found a girlfriend, and with full authority spread a bunch of nonsense, claiming that the future daughter-in-law was a knowledgeable and cultured teacher. The neighbors were so envious they insisted on meeting her when she came over.

But now, seeing Huo Sining, the old granny just felt her face burning with embarrassment. This was still a child — what would those old partners think if they saw her? Where would she put her old face then?

More importantly, this child was so young; her son was nearly thirty. How long would she have to wait before she could hold a little grandson? When would Tuantuan Yuanyuan finally become a pair?

Of course, even though Madam Gu was concerned, she couldn’t overcome her son’s affection.

Madam Gu knew her son’s temperament; he wouldn’t listen to anyone else’s persuasion once he set his mind on someone, so she could only accept it with mixed feelings.

But she couldn’t help wondering what it was about this girl that had caught her son’s eye. The girl was so young that even if the two of them hit it off and got married, it would be her son taking care of her, not taking a wife, but bringing home a daughter.

Girls who are young and immature in wisdom naturally lack steadiness in action and speech. Madam Gu had no prejudice against Huo Sining, but she always felt somewhat uncomfortable about the idea of her son, whom she had raised with such effort, taking care of someone else’s daughter, who was young and inexperienced.

However, what Madam Gu didn’t expect was that Huo Sining, despite her youth, was somewhat different from what she had imagined.

In such an incident, she didn’t show the slightest sign of panic or fear; she was calm throughout, even when receiving a call from a friend, she didn’t let anything slip. She had quite the bearing of a mistress of the house.

If it had been a girl from an ordinary family, perhaps she would have been crying and scared witless by now. How could she remain so composed?

This, in turn, changed a lot about Madam Gu’s impression of Huo Sining. A flicker of interest crossed Madam Gu’s eyes – she felt as though her boring life had gained a new amusement.

It seemed that her future daughter-in-law was not quite the person she had envisioned.

Huo Sining was unaware that the seemingly brash old granny had already made her out to be a toy, planning to amuse herself with in the coming days. Yet, even though she sat in the police car, Huo Sining felt no fear at all.

When Su Qingqing had called, she could have tipped her off and asked Su Qingqing to help get someone from the police station to pick them up.

But Huo Sining hadn’t done so because she knew it would have been utterly unnecessary.

Gu Xu was from the Imperial Capital, with such a large conglomerate under his belt, it was unlikely he lacked the connections to handle this. With Madam Gu and Little Bun there, it made no sense for him to let a car full of the old and young to be stranded at the police station and bullied by a few petty officers.

Moreover, Huo Sining had discerned, from the behavior of Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian, the mannerisms of the spoilt youths of the Imperial Capital. From their stature and demeanor, she surmised that Gu Xu’s identity was more than just a businessman and semi-retired special forces soldier.

Though Gu Xu kept a low profile, Huo Sining felt his family background must be extraordinary. After witnessing Madam Gu’s assertiveness, she became even more certain of her guess.

Only those with wealth and influence dare to engage in martial arts. With the old granny being so skilled, she must have come from an Ancient Martial Arts Family. Even if such a family kept a low profile, they surely possessed significant strength and status, not something a few ordinary civil servants could handle easily.

Thus, Huo Sining was not at all worried about what would happen to them after entering the police station. Instead, she offered her silent condolences to the junior officers running errands — having angered such a formidable figure, they were in for some serious misfortune.
