Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 261: Chapter 258: The Protector Who is Afraid of Dogs Chapter 261: Chapter 258: The Protector Who is Afraid of Dogs Huo Sining felt somewhat embarrassed. She had outright refused when Fujiwara Seiho asked her to go fishing at sea, yet she turned around and joined Gu Xu and the others on a sea trip.

There wasn’t anything particularly wrong with that, but who would have thought that she’d run into Fujiwara Seiho now.

Even though Fujiwara Seiho didn’t show much emotion on his face, Huo Sining felt a bit ashamed and simply lowered her head to avoid looking at him.

A glint of darkness flashed in Fujiwara Seiho’s eyes as the group walked towards the dock.

Only when the other party disappeared from sight did Huo Sining heave a sigh of relief.

“Ningning.” As soon as she got off the boat, Su Qingqing clung to Huo Sining and refused to let go.

During the sea fishing contest on the boat, Huo Sining and Gu Xu had won the prize, so the pair of earrings belonging to Su Qingqing and Bai Yishan naturally ended up in Huo Sining’s possession.

Gu Xu only claimed back his own watch, leaving the rest for Huo Sining, who didn’t hesitate to scoop up those items and stuff them all back into her backpack.

Su Qingqing, however, was quite dejected. She had thought she could win the Great Eastern Pearl from Huo Sining, but not only did she fail to win it back, she lost even more, ending up losing her original Jade Pendant earrings as well.

Huo Sining was well aware of why Su Qingqing was pestering her. She looked at Su Qingqing with a smile that was not a smile and deliberately asked, “What’s up?”

Su Qingqing’s cheeks reddened, and she laughed sheepishly, “Well, Ningning, about that pair of Huang Mingyu Jade Pendant earrings…”

Huo Sining burst into laughter, “Oh, that pair of earrings? I was just about to get my ears pierced, and someone happened to give me jewelry, quite a coincidence, don’t you think?”

Su Qingqing’s expression froze, a mix of dejection and disbelief, “You’re going to get your ears pierced?”

Before Huo Sining could respond, Su Jinyuan couldn’t help but interject from the side, “You should accept the loss. Those Jade Pendant earrings were originally Ningning’s gift to you. Using them as a bet was already quite unfair. Now that you’ve lost, you still want to take them back. Aren’t you ashamed?”

Su Qingqing looked up defiantly at Su Jinyuan, “Mind your own business! You wouldn’t even give up a single pair of earrings for me.”

Huo Sining was amused to no end and extended her hand, revealing a pair of bright yellow earrings.

“Why bother with piercing? I’m scared of pain to death. I’m afraid I won’t be able to wear these earrings. Better to give them back to you.”

Only then did Su Qingqing realize she had been tricked by Huo Sining. She glared at Huo Sining with embarrassment and annoyance and snatched the earrings back ungraciously.

The other pair of earrings naturally made their way back to Bai Yishan as well.

The belongings of Ouyang Jun and a few others were not returned, though. Those people were wealthy and didn’t lack such trinkets, nor did they have the nerve to ask for them back.

After leaving the dock, everyone naturally went their separate ways. Su Jinyuan, Su Qingqing, and Bai Yishan headed to the underground parking lot. Huo Sining had originally planned to go back with Su Jinyuan, but then she received a call from Uncle Wu, saying he was already waiting outside the dock.

On the other hand, Gu Xu hesitated for a moment and then followed Huo Sining, “Let me help you with that.”

Hearing his voice, Huo Sining turned around and saw Gu Xu following her, which made her pause in surprise.

Without a word, Gu Xu took the luggage from Huo Sining’s hands. Huo Sining raised an eyebrow and smiled without saying anything, but her heart felt a small surge of pleasure at Gu Xu’s gesture.

Gu Xu’s ears were a bit red. Huo Sining lifted her head, and their gazes met in the air for a brief moment before hurriedly looking away from each other.

Huo Sining felt a pang in her heart and was just about to say something when Gu Xu’s gaze suddenly flickered, as if he had seen something. His expression abruptly tensed, and he stuffed Huo Sining’s luggage back into her hands and said, “You go back first,” before chasing after something in a certain direction.

Huo Sining was instantly disoriented, having no idea what was going on.

On the other side, Gu Xu was chasing after a figure as it darted into the crowd, tracking the target while making a phone call to Song Hui.

“Huizi, there’s a situation, suspect number 157 has appeared!”

Upon hearing the news, Song Hui’s expression instantly became severe. Putting aside the need to explain further to his companions Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian, he simply acknowledged and followed, quickly disappearing into the sea of people.

Huo Sining, helpless, could only obediently carry her luggage and head outside.

Huo Sining had long ago heard from Gu Xu about his past in the special forces, and recalling the scene a few months ago where she found Gu Xu wounded from a gunshot in the garbage heap, she began to form a guess in her mind.

Perhaps Gu Xu’s retirement and his entry into the family business were just a smokescreen, and in reality, he must still be on a mission. The task must be so difficult that he had no choice but to send out fake information about his discharge to confuse the enemy.

Huo Sining shook her head, stopping herself from overthinking, and regained her senses before heading toward Wu Jun with her luggage.

The protector following closely behind Huo Sining let out a sigh of relief. Su Lan had ordered him to prevent Gu Xu from getting close to Huo Sining, but since he couldn’t expose himself or his identity, how could he stop him?

The protector was trembling inside with indecision, unsure whether to intervene or just watch, feeling troubled, he hadn’t expected Gu Xu to run off on his own, which saved him a lot of effort.

As for exactly what situation Gu Xu had encountered, the protector wasn’t particularly concerned. Following Huo Sining, he escorted her until she met with Wu Jun, and only after seeing her get into the car with his own eyes, he hesitated for a moment but still secretly followed.

Upon returning to the villa, Heitan came bounding up to greet her, the young pup having grown rapidly. In just a short month, he had already become larger than an average dog.

However, for some unknown reason, whereas Heitan was usually calm when Huo Sining came home, this time, after some affectionate interaction, he suddenly stiffened as if he had sensed something amiss, and dashed to the door, baring his teeth and looking ready for a fight.

“Woof woof—”

The little guy’s voice carried an angry howl, infused with an indescribable fury and majesty, the momentum formidable.

Pushing aside the surprise in her heart, Huo Sining focused her gaze. Heitan was standing erect at the doorway, limbs planted firmly on the ground, tail drooping, clearly ready to attack at any moment, and occasionally growling lowly as if confronting someone.

Huo Sining paused, turning to look outside the door, but she saw no one, which puzzled her, “Heitan, there’s nobody outside, what’s wrong with you?”

The Mastiff looked up at Huo Sining in confusion, appearing to be a mixture of perplexed and indignant as if to say that Huo Sining might have made a mistake, there was clearly a stranger standing outside.

“Let’s go in,” Huo Sining patted the Mastiff’s head, signaling for him to enter the house.

The little guy, unwilling to let it go, turned his head to glance at the protector, then bristled and raised his tail, issuing a low growl as if issuing a warning.

The protector was scared out of his wits, nearly in tears, internally cursing the Young Master for setting him up. Dammit, if only he’d been told earlier—he didn’t know he was so afraid of dogs!
