Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 280: Chapter 277 Taken Away

Gu Xu’s words infuriated Huo Biao, who was sprawled on the ground. Without thinking, Huo Biao pulled out his phone from his pocket with his other hand and dialed a number.

”Hello, Mingzi Ge, I got beaten up at S University! Are you guys at the police station going to do something about it?”

It was unclear what was said on the other end of the line, but Huo Biao mindlessly replied, ”I’ll wait here,” and then hung up.

”Kid, you think you’re tough just because you know a few tricks? Let me tell you, you’re in deep trouble today. You’ve offended me, and I’ll make sure you can’t walk away from this!”

Huo Biao’s expression turned ferocious as he glared at Gu Xu, his eyes filled with darkness and resentment.

Gu Xu and Madam Gu exchanged a glance, their faces still devoid of any extra expression, while Huo Sining found the situation somewhat amusing deep down.

Does this Huo Biao not have a brain? He could have just left quietly after getting beaten. Calling the police over is just asking for trouble, isn’t it?

”Uncle, is this Auntie? Grandma said that Auntie will have a little brother for me to play with in the future—is that true?”

As Gu Xu casually waited for the police backup Huo Biao had mentioned, the ignored Little Bun decided he was unhappy and suddenly asked Gu Xu a question that left him utterly speechless.

Grandma Gu smiled warmly at Huo Sining standing before her. Huo Sining immediately felt so embarrassed she wished she could vanish into a crack in the ground—even though she had nothing to do with Gu Xu, why did she feel so awkward?

”Well, this is my mother, and this is my older brother’s child, Gu Chengxuan, everyone calls him Tuantuan.”

Feeling awkward himself, Gu Xu quickly changed the subject, pulling Little Bun closer to Huo Sining. While forcing a smile, he said, ”Tuantuan, call her Auntie.”

Little Bun looked puzzled and then tilted his head to ask, ”Why Auntie and not Auntie-in-law?”

Huo Sining was about to pass out. Whose troublemaker kid was this?

”Ahem.” Before Gu Xu could respond, Madam Gu spoke up, ”Tuantuan, you can call her Auntie-in-law if you want. It’s just a title, and you’ll have to change it eventually anyway.”

”Mom!” Gu Xu felt a headache coming on, believing that Elder Madam She had simply come to stir up trouble.

Upon hearing Madam Gu’s words, Little Bun seemed delighted and eagerly nodded, saying, ”Then I’ll call her Auntie-in-law! Auntie-in-law, Grandpa said that your baby will be named Yuanyuan, which together with Tuantuan, would make a perfect pair!”

Huo Sining: ...

Gu Xu: ...

Children say the darndest things. Huo Sining didn’t know how to respond, but luckily someone came to her rescue at that moment.

The sound of a police siren approached from outside, and soon a figure swaggered in with two officers in tow. Upon seeing the three lying on the ground, the figure widened his eyes and asked in an officious tone, ”What happened here?”

Huo Biao couldn’t help but brighten up at the sight of the newcomer, pointing at Gu Xu and the others, he shouted, ”Mingzi Ge, it was them. They’re the ones who beat me up. Both Skinny Monkey’s arm and my elbow got wrecked by them!”

Upon hearing Huo Biao’s words, Liu Ming turned his head to look at Gu Xu and the others—a senior, a child, and a woman—clearly they weren’t capable of violence. That left only the man standing at the center as the likely culprit.

Liu Ming’s face darkened as he walked up to Gu Xu and asked with a menacing look, ”Was it you who started the fight?”

Gu Xu raised an eyebrow, unsure of what to say, and Liu Ming let out a cold laugh, ”Who told you to gather here and cause a scene? Disturbing the order of work, Xiao Zhang, take this man away!”

Huo Biao, upon hearing Liu Ming’s words, opened his mouth to explain that it wasn’t Gu Xu but Madam Gu who had started the fight, but before the words could leave his lips, his eyes darted around and he swallowed them back.

Several grown men had actually been beaten by an elderly lady nearing her seventieth year; to say it out loud would be embarrassing enough, let alone whether Liu Ming would believe it. If the story spread, it wouldn’t only be his, Huo Biao’s, face that he’d lose. Anyway, with the son of that old hag arrested, she wouldn’t be able to escape!

With this thought, Huo Biao simply kept silent, deciding to let the mistake slide and let Liu Ming arrest the man first.

But Madam Gu became furious upon hearing Liu Ming’s words, ”You can just arrest someone without clarifying the situation? Is this how hasty the police always handle matters? I wasn’t aware that the police were here to protect these gangsters!”

The man glanced at Madam Gu with contempt and sneered, ”How I handle my affairs isn’t something for an old woman like you to worry about. Where do you think you are, country bumpkin?”

For someone from the distinguished Gu family of the Imperial Capital to be called a country bumpkin by a mere junior officer?!

Madam Gu was incredulous. Facing the arrogant young policeman, her anger surged and she couldn’t help but interrogate him, ”Which precinct are you from?”

Liu Ming had a powerful uncle backing him, so he didn’t take Madam Gu seriously at all. Upon hearing her question, he glanced at her disdainfully:

”Liu Ming, the squadron leader of Luwan District Police Station. What, are you planning to give me trouble? Alright, old lady, I advise you to step aside. If you don’t, I’ll add obstructing official duties to the charges! Xiao Zhang, take the man away. Also, Xiao Qin, get a vehicle to take Brother Biao and the others to the hospital.”

No sooner had he spoken that the officer Xiao Zhang approached with a pair of handcuffs, ready to cuff Gu Xu.

Unexpectedly, at this moment, Du Yanlin suddenly rushed out from the private room and shouted at Liu Ming, ”Police uncle, that woman too, I saw her hit someone just now!”

As she spoke, Du Yanlin looked at Huo Sining triumphantly, her eyes gleaming with schadenfreude.

Liu Ming cast a sideways glance at Huo Biao upon hearing this.

Huo Biao was somewhat displeased with Du Yanlin’s sudden interjection, but since he had initially planned to stand up for Du Yanlin and Xue Jingjing, he couldn’t let the woman with the surname Huo get away without a lesson, lest Xue Jingjing look down on him.

With that thought, Huo Biao gave a nod. Seeing the signal, Liu Ming waved his hand and shouted, ”Xiao Zhang, cuff that woman too!”

”You can arrest someone just by slapping charges on them? Don’t the police need an arrest warrant to arrest someone?” Huo Sining asked coldly.

”Hey!” Liu Ming glanced at Huo Sining, squinted his eyes, and asked with a mocking smile, ”So, you’re some high-achieving student who knows the law?”

As soon as he finished talking, his expression turned stern, and he said with a straight face, ”I’ll tell you, here, I arrest whoever I feel like arresting! What is the law? I am the law!”

Fire seemed to spit from Madam Gu’s eyes. Where was this the people’s police? He was completely an unreasonable bandit!

Having spent so many years in the army, Gu Xu was encountering the experience of being arrested by the police for the first time. He wasn’t angry, just amused. Silently, he shielded Huo Sining behind him and asked with a faint smile, ”What if I refuse to go?”
