The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Within a single day, Meng Yunzheng’s schedule was fully booked.

Shu Yu was also not far behind. Though she had returned to Chenggu County, Jiang Fengshou had not spared her and directly handed her a stack of account books to review.

Shu Yu couldn’t understand; didn’t they just deliver the account books to her before the New Year? It’s only been a few months since then, and there are so many more already?

Of course, seeing the profits made on the account books, she was both pained and delighted.

After reviewing the books, Shu Yu also met with Old Master Yang and He Er. Though they couldn’t attend her wedding, she promised to host a banquet in Chenggu County later to make up for it.

By the time both of them finished their tasks, it was already evening.

It was then that Tang Wenqian arrived, accompanied by Madam Tang.

Madam Tang had changed quite a bit compared to before. Probably due to living comfortably with care, she looked more refined. However, her face wore a cloud of worry, seeming not very happy.

Thinking of Madam Tang’s constant concerns, Shu Yu understood.

Tang Wenqian wasn’t married yet, which certainly must be a burden on Madam Tang’s mind.

Tang Wenqian came to give money to Meng Yunzheng; he is now the county magistrate of Chenggu County, and Meng Yunzheng is the Master Top Scorer from there, so the authorities certainly rewarded him.

Unfortunately, he received news that Meng Yunzheng didn’t plan to serve in the court but instead wanted to return to Dongan Province to open an academy.

Tang Wenqian felt very conflicted. By rights, he should persuade Meng Yunzheng, even if he wanted to open an academy, he should do it in Chenggu County to boost his hometown’s culture and economy.

But Dongan Province happened to be Tang Wenqian’s hometown as well, and the contributions to his own hometown made it hard for him to object.

He couldn’t help but look at Shu Yu and saw that she showed no sign of displeasure, seemingly unfazed by Meng Yunzheng resigning to become a teacher.

At this moment, he didn’t quite understand them.

Tang Wenqian stayed at Meng’s escort agency for about an hour, mainly discussing current affairs with Meng Yunzheng and wanting to hear Meng Yunzheng’s opinion on another matter.

Tang Wenqian, originally from a scholarly examination background, was promoted by the emperor to the county magistrate of Chenggu County due to his achievements in the rebellion involving the Second and Third Prince with Xiang Weinan. However, he was never a genuine Advanced Scholar; ultimately, this was his regret.

He was somewhat mired in a haze of confusion, unsure whether to continue his official career step by step or... to resign and retake the Advanced Scholar examination.

Meng Yunzheng smiled and said, ”Haven’t you already found your answer? Otherwise, why else would you suddenly have two choices while serving as the county magistrate?”

Tang Wenqian suddenly understood; indeed, he had been overthinking.

He had been inclined one way long ago; he just lacked the courage to break free and start anew.

He stood up, cupped his hands, and said, ”I understand now, thank you.” But he also knew that his scholarly knowledge wasn’t yet at the level to pass in one go.

No rush, he would settle down now and wait for the right time to take the Advanced Scholar examination later.

Meng Yunzheng didn’t say anything further. He got up and saw Tang Wenqian out.

Once out of Meng’s escort agency and onto the carriage, Madam Tang softly said, ”Wenqian, look, that Lu family’s second daughter went back home this time just to get married, when are you going to find a daughter-in-law for your mother? You’re already twenty-four; if you don’t find someone soon, people will start talking.”

”Mother, you see how busy I am every day, I really don’t have the time.”

Madam Tang murmured softly, ”I think you’re still pining for the Lu family’s second daughter.”
