The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

”We won.” Mumu shouted excitedly, and Little Huohuo reacted too. The two children looked at Shu Yu with bright eyes.

Mumu said, ”I know, the one who loses has to be punished.”

Little Huohuo nodded hard. ”Punished.”

”Of course, I’ll take my punishment.” Shu Yu looked at the two of them, amused.

Mumu tilted his head, thinking. ”So what’s the punishment?”

Shu Yu showed a kindly smile. ”We already agreed, the one who loses has to recite a text.”

”Huh?” Mumu blinked and looked at Huohuo. ”Recite a text? Did we... did we really agree to that?”

Why reciting a text? Isn’t it supposed to be that the loser pays money? He’d seen the servants at home betting, saying the loser had to pay ten or twenty coins.

He didn’t even know how much ten or twenty coins was, or whether it could buy candied hawthorn and little sugar figurines. He wanted to eat one himself, give one to his younger brother Huohuo, one to his older brother Lele, and then to his father and mother, Grandmother and Grandfather, and the Aunt and Uncle in front of him.

But if it’s reciting a text, then they can’t buy candied hawthorn, right?

Shu Yu nodded firmly. ”That’s right, we already made the deal back then—the one who loses has to recite. If you don’t believe me, ask the others. This is a very serious punishment; we have to stick to it.”

Mumu turned to look at Meng Yunzheng sitting opposite. The latter nodded with a serious expression.

It was Little Song Le to the side whose little face was all scrunched up in distress. What to do? If younger brother Mumu asked him, how was he supposed to answer? Children aren’t supposed to lie, but—but if Aunt says so, she must have her reasons.

However, as a child himself, Little Song Le did not receive the attention of his two younger brothers.

After getting a confirming answer from Meng Yunzheng and Aunt Hong, they both let out a long sigh of relief, grinning foolishly. ”So the loser has to recite, huh. We completely forgot. Good thing we won.” Neither of them could recite.

Little Song Le: ”...”

The two kids, dazed from being talked into it, climbed down from Shu Yu’s lap, then sat properly on the stools to the side, ready to claim the fruits of their victory.

Shu Yu felt a tiny twinge of conscience, then closed her eyes and began reciting the Three Character Classic. ”At the beginning of man, their nature is good by default...”

The two children hadn’t listened for long before their eyes started to go in circles, their bodies swaying dizzily.

What to do? This is so painful.

Little Huohuo pulled a long face and whispered, ”Brother Mumu, I’m starting to miss my father and mother.”

”I miss them too. This really is... a serious punishment.” He really wanted to cry, but he couldn’t. He had to be strong; he had to hold it in.

Aunt Hong almost burst out laughing as she listened to their muttering.

She couldn’t help looking at Little Song Le. Back when Little Song Le left with Lady Lu, he’d been about Mumu’s age. Was he like this too when they were on the road back then?

In fact, Aunt Hong was overthinking it. Little Song Le was different from Mumu and Huohuo; the environment he grew up in was worlds apart from theirs.

Forget Mumu—even Huohuo had both parents and everyone’s love and spoiling.

As long as there’s a parents’ love, that’s the backing for a child’s innocence and playfulness.

Back then, Little Song Le had nothing at all, couldn’t even talk yet, but he was obedient and didn’t fuss or make noise. Yet the more sensible he was, the more Shu Yu gave it her all, guiding him step by step and taking care of him.

”Aunt, are you not done reciting yet?” Mumu asked in a small voice.

Shu Yu shook her head. ”Not yet. Since it’s a punishment, we at least have to recite for one hours.”

One hours... how long is that?
