The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu let out a ”Hm?” and said, ”A real reward? I did prepare one for you, but it’s still at the small courtyard south of the city. How about we sneak back later and get it?”

”What if I want it right now?”

Shu Yu was troubled. ”That won’t do, I can’t just conjure it up.”

”It’s fine, I’ll get it myself.”

”You’re going back—” Shu Yu hadn’t finished speaking when the back of her head was suddenly held in place, her lips warmed, and he pressed down directly.

By now Meng Yunzheng was already very practiced at this. He looked like such a refined person, but when he kissed he was a bit fierce, like a wolf determined to tear her apart and swallow her down.

Shu Yu couldn’t quite handle it. By the time he finally let her go, her head was still a little dizzy.

Meng Yunzheng chuckled, then dropped two more kisses on her slightly reddened, swollen lips. ”This is my favorite reward. Will there be more when we go back?”

Like hell there will.

Shu Yu glared at him in a way that carried no threat at all. How could she have forgotten that earlier this man had been openly and subtly asking her whether she’d be very excited if he became the top scorer. See? The one who’s clearly the most excited is him.

Afraid she’d get angry out of embarrassment, Meng Yunzheng, with a strong will to live, hurriedly changed the subject. ”Why are you staring at these two paintings here, so entranced?”

Shu Yu snorted lightly. ”I met one of your fans today.”

”One of my... fans?” What did that mean?

Shu Yu almost forgot there wasn’t such a term in this era. ”It means someone who really likes and admires Mr. Shanju.”

Meng Yunzheng understood. ”So you wanted to look at Mr. Shanju’s paintings and see what exactly there is about them that makes people admire him?”

”Not really. It’s just that the paintings were just hung up, right? I noticed that hanging them in this tea house room on the second floor really gives a special feeling. The window over there is big, the light is bright, and it won’t shine directly on the paintings, but...”

Halfway through, Shu Yu’s voice suddenly stopped.

She turned her head to look at him, then glanced outside the window. No, she was right. The light was still bright; the sun had only just started to sink.

Meng Yunzheng saw her suddenly fall silent and found it odd. ”What is it?”

”Something’s off. Why did you come back so early? Weren’t you going to attend the Qionglin Banquet and only come back after the evening meal?”

She knew something had felt wrong.

After the evening meal, it should at least be dark. It’s not like you can just leave the Qionglin Banquet early whenever you feel like it.

Sure enough, Meng Yunzheng’s expression grew a bit more serious. ”Halfway through the Qionglin Banquet, His Majesty left, and then the banquet ended early.”

Shu Yu abruptly turned around. Meng Yunzheng simply pulled her over to sit down on the chair beside them.

”Something happened?”

Meng Yunzheng nodded. ”Mm.”

Back before the metropolitan exam had even started, Meng Yunzheng had discussed with Shu Yu whether the Second Prince’s people would use this major examination to stir up trouble.

Yet all the way until the metropolitan exam ended, the palace exam ended, and even after the palace exam results were out, the other side still hadn’t made any move.

Just when everyone thought they weren’t planning to use this opportunity, those people... came to break him out of prison.

The place where the Second Prince was being held was broken into, and a fight broke out.

Shu Yu’s eyes widened. ”Then... did they get the Second Prince out?”

”No.” Meng Yunzheng smiled. ”All thanks to that letter you brought, which made us realize someone was deliberately misleading Qi Lie into looking for the black market in the Northern region. His Majesty suspected there must be a traitor mixed in among them, so some time ago, he found a body double to replace the Second Prince and had him imprisoned somewhere else. Only the people involved in the operation know about this.”
