The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

When Daniu heard that the other party knew about the Southern Courtyard and the shop on Futai Street, and even mentioned Aunt Hong, he immediately realized and brightened up with a smile, ”You must be Little Lele’s great-aunt, please, come in quickly.”

Aunt Hong didn’t expect him to have heard of her, feeling a bit nervous, ”Yes, yes, I am... I am Lele’s great-aunt.”

Daniu led her inside, saying while walking, ”It’s not convenient to stay at the Southern Courtyard now. Shu Yu and the others rented a house nearby instead; they just moved yesterday, didn’t have a chance to tell you, causing you to come all this way for nothing.”

”The Southern Courtyard is indeed quite far from Futai Street, making it inconvenient to go back and forth.”

Daniu knew she misunderstood but didn’t explain the situation about Meng Yunzheng drawing attention for being the top scorer.

”Aunt Hong, please come in and have a seat. Shu Yu should be here shortly.”

Aunt Hong followed him inside, growing more surprised the further she went. Initially, she thought that Lady Lu’s shop was just a small general store, but it was unexpectedly large and even had two floors.

She hadn’t gone up to the second floor, but she walked through the first floor.

The ground was filled with items, likely covered with cloth because it hadn’t opened yet.

Judging by the shapes, there seemed to be quite a lot of things.

Inside, Aunt Hong was astonished. Upon reaching the backyard with Daniu, she was once again taken aback by the setup. Clearly, she underestimated things, thinking Lady Lu was just an ordinary wealthy girl, but it turned out she was a daughter of a prominent family.

Daniu asked her to sit for a while, ”I’ll bring the food to the kitchen; Aunt Hong, please have some tea first.”

”Yes, alright.” Aunt Hong initially wanted to carry the food herself, but since it was her first visit, she thought it impolite to walk around freely, so she quietly sat in the living room, observing the house.

The tea was very warm, with a fragrance she had never tasted before.

Aunt Hong took a small sip, and suddenly Shu Yu’s voice came from outside, ”...the staff on the second floor needs further consideration. We need someone smart and literate who is willing to come work at our shop, but it’s quite challenging.”

Manager Yun laughed, ”Actually, it’s not that hard, if literacy is all you need.”

After all, this is the Capital, where quite a few people are literate. But being smart is more common.

Manager Yun had met several people but found none suitable.

The two were chatting as they walked toward the living room, surprised to find Aunt Hong as soon as they entered the door.

Shu Yu was somewhat surprised, ”Auntie, what brings you here?”

”I came to bring you some vegetables.” Aunt Hong stood up, glanced at Shu Yu and then at Manager Yun, and asked, ”I heard you talking about looking for a literate staff member?”

”Yes, but who with an education would be willing to become staff?”

Aunt Hong pondered, ”I do know someone; he’s very smart and literate, and he’s seen some of the world.”

Shu Yu was astonished, ”Who is it?”

”It’s my son-in-law’s cousin,” Aunt Hong said, ”His name is Chen Kangtai; he’s second in his family and not favored. His family was poor when he was a child, and at seven, he was sold to a wealthy household to work as a servant. This boy had good fortune; he became a playmate for the household’s young master, and when the young master studied, he read and learned words too. The young master treated him well and took him out while traveling, and he even left the Capital to see the world. Unfortunately, later on, the young master fell gravely ill, and it couldn’t be cured. Before his death, he released several close servants from the house.”
