The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

In the end, they still didn’t go out to eat. There were too many people outside; not to mention the kids, even for the pregnant Xiao Ruojun, Shu Yu was afraid she might get knocked into.

In the end, Zhao Xi, Daniu and the others went to the restaurant next door, ordered a full table of food and wine and had it brought over to eat in the shop. It was just that all the restaurants were doing especially good business today, so by the hours Shu Yu and the others had eaten and drunk their fill, another hour had already gone by.

Madam Yao and Xiao Ruojun were both taken home, and only then did Shu Yu and her elder sister slowly head toward the small courtyard south of the city.

They hadn’t even reached the courtyard yet when they saw a crowd of people gathered outside.

Zhao Xi clicked his tongue repeatedly. ”These people sure turn their faces faster than flipping a page. Before, when they heard Yun had fallen into the emperor’s disfavour, they scattered in an instant. Now that they know Yun was granted Advanced Scholar and ranked as the top scorer, they immediately crowd back again.”

There were people packed in layer after layer; the whole alley was almost blocked up.

Shuyou frowned. ”Let’s go in through the back door.”

”I’m afraid there are quite a few people waiting at the back door too.”

”Then what do we do?” Shuyou looked at the son in her arms, his head nodding as he dozed. In this state, if people swarmed up around them when they went in and scared him, he’d definitely cry.

Shu Yu told Ying Xi to turn the carriage around. ”A couple of days ago Yun rented a house two streets away from Lu’s Shop. We’ll go live there.”

Zhao Xi suddenly turned his head to look at her. ”What did you just say, Yun rented a house? How come I didn’t know?”

Shu Yu shrugged. ”He probably didn’t have time to tell you. Yun had long predicted there would be a scene like this. In the days to come, there’ll probably be a constant crowd outside this courtyard. If we live here, we definitely won’t have any peace. But our luggage is still inside, we’ll come back later to get it.”

”Then what are we waiting for, go, go, go, my son is about to fall asleep.”

So the carriage only stopped for a moment at the mouth of the alley outside the small courtyard before leaving again.

Someone sharp-eyed did spot the carriage and felt a bit suspicious, but just as they were about to step forward for a look, the carriage moved on, and they had no choice but to go back and squat outside the courtyard.

The new courtyard Meng Yunzheng rented was very close to Futai Street, mainly for Shu Yu’s convenience.

The courtyard had already been completely tidied and cleaned. Aside from not having brought their personal belongings over, it was entirely ready for them to move in with their bags.

Zhao Xi and Shuyou took Little Huohuo and Little Song Le back to their room to sleep, while Shu Yu took Ying Xi out to buy some things.

Who knew that just as the two of them left, Daniu, who lived in the backyard of the shop, came running over and said to Shu Yu, ”The shopkeeper from the mounting shop came over and said those two paintings have already been mounted. Do you want to go take a look, so we can hang them up later?”

Shu Yu’s eyes lit up. She had sent the paintings over just yesterday. She hadn’t expected them to be finished in only one day.

”Come on, let’s go take a look.”

When they arrived at the shop, Shu Yu finally understood why these two paintings had been finished so quickly.

Seeing the shopkeeper who’d brought the mounted paintings over, carefully cradling them with a look of barely restrained delight, as if he couldn’t bear to let go, Shu Yu couldn’t help lifting a hand to her forehead. Right, this was definitely a fan of Mr. Shanju.

Sure enough, as soon as he saw Shu Yu, the shopkeeper hurried up to her, respectfully yet fervently saying, ”Greetings, County Lord Lu. County Lord, were these two paintings by Mr. Shanju done especially for this shop? Do you perhaps know Mr. Shanju? Is he in the Capital?”

Shu Yu quickly took a step back. ”Shopkeeper, calm down. Although these two paintings were done by Mr. Shanju, I don’t know him either.”
