The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

On the first day of opening, when closing for the night, Shu Yu glanced at the account book and smiled with satisfaction.

The customers on the second floor mostly came for Mr. Shanju’s paintings, while the first floor customers were entirely drawn by Manager Yun’s operations.

However, the second-floor customers were fewer in number but spent more, whereas the first-floor had more people but spent less.

Calculating both together, good heavens, it was twice the profit compared to all the effort they put into promotions and lotteries in Dongan Province.

Even though the prices were slightly higher here in the capital, it must be said, the spending power of the people here is truly surprising; there really are many wealthy people.

Moreover, with both Meng Yunzheng and Mr. Shanju as attractions, the first day of Shu Yu’s business in the capital was a resounding success.

Shu Yu felt relieved, with Manager Yun overseeing things here in the capital, she didn’t need to worry.

What surprised Shu Yu even more was that business was booming on the first day, and even more people came on the second day.

Especially in the tea house on the second floor, many people arrived early in the morning, including students and ladies from the day before, as well as some elderly Confucian merchants and scholars.

Even Xun Sheng and Xie Bo showed up.

And those top scorers and third placers that Shu Yu saw during the street parade?

Indeed, Shu Yu almost forgot, as it hadn’t been long since the civil service examination ended, many people hadn’t rushed to leave, seeking opportunities here in the capital; hence, there were still many candidates around during this period.

Those people from yesterday spread the word, and as soon as people knew Mr. Shanju’s latest paintings were out, they all rushed over.

As a result, the second day’s earnings were unexpectedly better than the first.

After returning home in the evening, Shu Yu flipped through the account book while smiling at Meng Yunzheng, ”You really are my God of Fortune, should you paint a couple more in the future?”

Meng Yunzheng was drinking soothing tea beside her. Staying upstairs for discussions over the past two days, his throat had become somewhat hoarse.

Seeing her money-minded look, he couldn’t help but shake his head, ”Things are only valuable because they’re rare; if there are too many, they won’t cherish them.”

”True enough,” Shu Yu nodded, ”I wonder if tomorrow can set another record high.”

”Impossible.”

Shu Yu was taken aback, ”Why?”

Meng Yunzheng moved to her side, closed the account book in front of her, and kissed her cheek, ”Tomorrow is the day for official appointments.”

Shu Yu was just about to retaliate for his sneak attack, but upon hearing this, she instantly forgot to act, ”Official appointments are tomorrow?”

”Yes.”

This is a big deal, something the literati pay close attention to; most likely their minds will be focused on the appointments.

Curiously, Shu Yu asked, ”Has the jailbreak incident been resolved?”

”More or less, even if not completely, the official appointments cannot be delayed any further. Anyway, the Second Prince wasn’t kidnapped, and after a few days’ delay, it’s fine.”

Shu Yu nodded, then remembering Meng Yunzheng’s intention not to accept a government position, she leaned back in her chair.

”After tomorrow, you’ll certainly become famous.”

Top Scholar Meng, having consecutively scored top in six major exams, resolutely declaring on the day of appointment that he wants to go home and be a teacher?

Naturally, this would cause quite a stir.

Meng Yunzheng played with her hair ends, chuckling, ”This kind of topic will fade after some time.”

”Not necessarily, since it’s unprecedented. Believe me, after tomorrow, there will be plenty of people seeking you out.”
