The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1596: Chapter 1596: Delivering the Dowry

Wei Ronghua had someone inquire with the staff of that shop, and indeed got some information.

It’s said that the shop not only lost money from the promotion but also ended up with a lot of complaints. That night, the shopkeeper was harshly scolded by the boss.

Shu Yu just smiled when she heard this. Organizing an event is not that easy.

Merely choosing prizes that wouldn’t make a loss, are valuable, and satisfy everyone was enough to make her pull out more than half of her hair.

Fortunately, the people around her were young and full of ideas. By brainstorming and each suggesting one thing, they managed to save the other half of her hair.

After nearly a week of stable development, Lu’s Shop had already gotten on the right track.

This place was left to Manager Wei, and Shu Yu planned to return to the county town.

After leaving the city, she first went to see the Xiao Family.

As expected, Madam Xiao again inquired about the situation in the capital, and Shu Yu could only tell her, “There’s been a reply from the capital, everything is fine. But Xiang Weinan hasn’t sent any news over; he is now being watched by the Xiao Family, so it’s difficult for him to maintain contact here, lest you get exposed.”

Madam Xiao got nervous immediately, “Being watched by the Xiao Family, how could he be targeted for no reason?”

“Don’t worry, the Xiao Family just wants to win him over. Previously, with you as a bridge, the Xiao Family felt that the Xiang Family naturally belonged to their side. Now that you have ‘passed away,’ the Xiao Family still doesn’t want to give up on the Xiang Family, so they’re naturally keeping a close eye on him.”

Hearing this, Madam Xiao was somewhat relieved, “There’s no danger, right?”

“You know Xiang Weinan’s abilities, and besides, it’s not like he’s fighting alone in the capital, so you can rest assured.”

Madam Xiao thought about it and agreed, especially since she couldn’t help him with anything from this side. She could only silently pray in her heart for his safety.

After talking with her for a while, Shu Yu left.

By the time she got home, the sky was almost dark.

The old lady wasn’t home, and Shuyou said she had returned to Shangshi Village this morning. Preparing for a marriage is tedious, even though Madam Li had already married off one daughter, but that time was different from now. In the early years, the Lu family wasn’t affluent, and many marriage steps were omitted.

Now that Lanhua is getting married, the Lu family is not what it used to be, so everything that should be done must be done. Though the old lady is aged, she knows many customs and rules.

Thus, she went back early to help.

As for them, going the next morning would still be in time.

Shuyou said to Shu Yu, “I won’t be able to attend Lanhua’s wedding, you take my wedding gift for me.”

Shuyou was pregnant, and in those days, pregnant women weren’t supposed to attend weddings.

Shu Yu didn’t take such customs seriously, how many modern brides got married visibly pregnant? But others didn’t think so, especially Madam Li, who had previously mentioned this both explicitly and implicitly.

Although Shuyou regretted not being able to attend her cousin’s wedding, she was about to give birth soon. With so many people coming and going at the wedding, she didn’t dare to take the risk of going in case she got hit accidentally.

On the morning of the sixth day, it was the day to send the dowry.

The bride’s family moved the dowry to the groom’s house the day before the wedding, displaying it along the way.

Thus, Shu Yu left early in the morning with her family back to Shangshi Village.

Madam Li clearly organized a grand affair; as soon as the carriage arrived at the village entrance, the joyful sound of children could be heard.

“Have the wedding candies and cakes, Sister Lanhua’s wedding candies and cakes are delicious.”

By the time the carriage reached outside the Lu family’s big house, the entrance was already packed tight.
