The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1589: Chapter 1589: All Prizes at Cost Price

Shu Yu handed over the paper with the final figures. Daniu was the first to see it, and his eyes widened immediately, ”This much?”

It’s not that he’s inexperienced; by now, he’s also someone who’s handled large sums of money.

But it’s only the first day. Although there were many customers and the business was thriving until late at night, this event was also quite grand. Just the first and second prizes were not cheap, and there was more than one of each.

Others were equally surprised. Ren Yiping exclaimed, ”I thought today’s main goal was to build our reputation. With so many prizes distributed, making a little profit would already be great. I didn’t expect this much; this is pure profit for a day.”

Shu Yu smiled and said, ”If all the prizes were bought from outside, we would probably make just a small profit, but most of these prizes are at cost price.”

The consolation prizes, which are mainly corn, oil, and sugar, are expensive these days, although corn isn’t. Besides, we popped the corn ourselves, and the popcorn got bigger. Just a small amount fills up a paper bag.

The paper bags we used are quite small, just enough to give the customers a taste. In fact, it is akin to getting a discount on the price of two hundred wen worth of melon seeds.

Next are the fifth-prize Instant Noodles, which are slightly more expensive in shops outside. But these are produced by our own workshops, and even though the prize is three cakes of noodles, the cost doesn’t exceed twenty coins.

The fourth-prize cloth and rag dolls, the cloth was ordinary fabric from Yiren Pavilion. Yiren Pavilion buys in bulk from outside, so it gets cheaper, and naturally, I got it at a good price.

The rag dolls are made by our own family. They were completed within two to three days.

The third-prize makeup products and scar removal cream need no explanation. The Yiren Pavilion uses a lot of makeup products. I took about ten sets; if there are leftovers, they can always be taken back. The scar removal cream is a business venture between me and Doctor Xu.

The second-prize camphorwood chest was made at my father’s carpentry shop; only the inkstone needed to be purchased.

The first-prize double-sided embroidery was crafted by Yiren Pavilion’s embroiderer, Tian Qin.

Initially, Madam Ruan and Shuyou recruited her from the prefecture, and she now feels settled at Yiren Pavilion. Previously, she was an exceptionally skilled embroiderer in the prefecture, well-known for her double-sided embroidery.

If it weren’t for her mother’s severe illness, which Zhao Xi cured, she wouldn’t have followed along to the county town.

Although the county town is not as prosperous as the prefecture, Yiren Pavilion pays her wages based on commission, which overall doesn’t fall short compared to the embroidery workshops in the prefecture. Of course, it’s not comparable to when she sells her double-sided embroidery herself.

But Tian Qin doesn’t care about money. Although she’s not wealthy, her family assets are enough for her to live comfortably. She only wishes for her mother’s wellbeing.

Shu Yu asked her to embroider these three pieces of double-sided embroidery at a very low price. She is grateful for the favor given to her by the Lu family and thankful to Zhao Xi for curing her mother, or else she would probably be alone by now. So when the Lu family needed help, she didn’t hesitate.

In total, the significant expenses are just the first-prize golden hairpin and the second-prize inkstone.

However, compared to the goods sold today, these two items aren’t the biggest costs.

”Over three hundred taels, more than I imagined, yet within expectations.” Shu Yu raised her head and said to everyone, ”But tomorrow it won’t be this much, so be prepared.”
