The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1566: Chapter 1566: A Messenger from the Government Office

After the two of them stood still under the porch, Zhao Xi wiped the sweat from his forehead, ”Alright, whatever you have to say, just say it. Seeing how flustered you look, it seems like something really serious has happened.”

”Young Master Zhao, it really is a big issue. Someone from the government office came.”

Zhao Xi paused his hand movements, ”Someone from the government office came, what’s it got to do with me?”

Xia Yan could only say, ”The person is a close aide of Prefect Fei. They came this time to invite Old Doctor Zhao to the capital to treat someone.”

Zhao Xi laughed, ”How is that a big issue? Perhaps some high official in the capital has fallen seriously ill, and they need my master to take a look, so they asked Lord Fei to find my master.”

But Xia Yan shook his head, his expression growing more serious, ”At first, I thought the same thing, but this time, the people from the government office had a very assertive attitude and seemed very secretive. Young Master Zhao, although our Young Master is just a Scholar by title, he knows quite a few people in the capital, at least he is good friends with Lord Xiang. Moreover, our future Young Madam is also someone with connections, having a close relationship with Lord Grand Tutor.”

Lord Qi was promoted not long ago and is now the Grand Tutor.

”But the people from the government office are acting as if they want to forcibly take Old Doctor Zhao away, as if any refusal from our Young Master would seem like committing a crime.”

He slightly lowered his voice, ”Young Master Zhao, tell me, if it really was a high official in the capital who fell seriously ill, would they need to invite someone with such an attitude? If they sought out Elder Zhao, they certainly know his exceptional medical skill. Who would willingly offend a highly skilled doctor? At the very least, they’d have to be courteous before resorting to force, right? Why be so forceful right from the start?”

Zhao Xi furrowed his brows, ”You’re suggesting...”

”I don’t know, I’m just a servant. But our Young Master speculates that the patient needing treatment may not be an ordinary person this time.”

Zhao Xi was suddenly taken aback, and Hao Dingshan and the others hiding behind the wall also felt a jolt in their hearts.

Xia Yan’s voice grew more tremulous, ”The Young Master said that Lord Fei is someone connected to that person, and whoever can order Lord Fei to act like this probably isn’t just a high official in the capital but likely a noble in the palace. Even if it’s not that person, the status is definitely not simple.”

Zhao Xi took a sharp breath, ”You mean...” he pointed upwards, ”that person might be seriously ill?”

”It’s not what I’m saying, it’s a conjecture from the Young Master. But the Young Master said that the person should be poisoned. And it’s not an ordinary poison, at least the chief of the Imperial Hospital can’t solve it, hence they turned to Old Doctor Zhao.”

Zhao Xi’s breath nearly stopped, ”If that’s really the case, it’s indeed a matter as serious as the sky falling. No, no, no, no, we absolutely can’t meddle in such affairs. Whether it can be cured is another matter, but if anything goes wrong, not just my master, our entire family could lose our lives. We absolutely can’t wade into these troubled waters.”

Xia Yan nodded vigorously, ”Our Young Master said the same thing, so he’s currently dealing with the people from the government office, and he sent me secretly to inform you. We’re lucky, the people from the government office thought you were staying with our Young Master, so they went straight to the Meng family, but the Young Master noticed it in advance. But Young Master Zhao, they’re sure to wait here for Old Doctor Zhao.”
