The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Capítulo 1583: Chapter 1853: The Regretful Boss Ge

The steward of the Wu Family, however, refused, as the Eldest Young Master instructed before leaving that building good relations should not be rushed and it’s crucial to adapt to the situation. Seeing that the shop was booming with customers even crowding at the door, he immediately said, “Manager Wei seems busy today, so I won’t disturb you any further. I’ve delivered the gift, and I must hurry back to East Valley County. It’s been a long time since Hu Geng and Manager Wei have seen each other, so today I’ll give him a day off. When Manager Wei finishes here, they can chat at home.”

Wei Ronghua exchanged a few polite words and then watched as the steward departed in the carriage.

He then turned to look at Hu Geng. It had only been half a month since they last met, yet the young man’s energy and spirit had transformed, more vibrant than ever.

Previously, when he assisted in the pastry shop as a staff member, although his life was fulfilling, it always felt like something was missing compared to now.

It seems he truly enjoys working at the Wu Family’s horse ranch, dealing with horses and mules, which is his passion.

Wei Ronghua patted him on the shoulder, “Good, keep working well at the Wu Family.”

He didn’t plan to say much more to him; they could catch up later in the evening after finishing the day’s work.

Thus, Wei Ronghua lowered his head to take out the house keys, intending to let him go home first.

Who would have thought that just as he was about to hand over the keys, Hu Geng softly said, “Master, when I arrived, I saw that Boss Ge from the Red Cake shop also came; he’s over there.”

Wei Ronghua slightly frowned, following his indication, and indeed saw a carriage parked not far away.

In fact, there were quite a few carriages around, almost blocking the entire street, and even though Daniu had earlier led everyone to park more sensibly, there was still a constant flow.

These were all from wealthy families, having servants and maids, so they didn’t need to line up personally. Squeezing around would damage their image; they only needed to wait in the carriage. If interested in the lottery, they could simply step out when it was their turn.

So, an unobtrusive carriage amongst them didn’t catch Wei Ronghua’s attention.

Unexpectedly, Boss Ge from the Red Cake shop would come all the way from East Valley County to this place.

Hu Geng quietly and cautiously added, “Master, could they be here to cause trouble?”

Wei Ronghua was silent for a moment, shaking his head, “They don’t have the guts.”

Firstly, they are not local to the prefecture. Even if they wanted to show off and act like local tyrants, it wouldn’t be their place.

Secondly, this is Monarch Lu Xiang’s shop, and even the magistrate sent someone specifically to deliver a gift. Who would dare cause trouble today without any sense or wits?

Perhaps the gaze from Wei Ronghua and Hu Geng was too evident, for Boss Ge by the carriage also turned his head to look at Wei Ronghua.

However, his gaze was exceptionally complex just then.

He just wanted to see if Wei Ronghua had fallen into destitution after leaving, curious if Monarch Lu Xiang would regret hiring him. In Boss Ge’s view, Wei Ronghua was obstinate and unruly — how could such a person accomplish anything good?

But ever since he left East Valley County half a month ago, their Red Cake shop’s business noticeably declined.

He was unwilling and reluctant to admit this had anything to do with Wei Ronghua, convincing himself that perhaps some loyal customers were uncertain seeing a new manager and were still observing, thinking business would soon pick up again.

Until now, seeing the bustling scene at Lu’s, he vaguely felt he might have made a wrong decision.
