The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1560: Chapter 1560: New Accommodations Arranged for the Xiao Family

Upon seeing Shu Yu, the Xiao Family exhaled a long breath of relief and eagerly grasped her hand, ”Yu, you finally came.”

”Sorry, I’m late.”

The Xiao Family shook their head, ”I know you were trying to avoid drawing attention.”

The two sat down to the side, and the Xiao Family said, ”These days, I’ve had people watching the area constantly, and we’ve found no suspicious individuals. It seems you’re right, that Hao Dingshan indeed wasn’t coming for me. That’s a relief; otherwise, I’d really be worried that something might have happened on the capital’s side.”

After a pause, they hesitantly asked, ”Is there still no news from the capital?”

Shu Yu shook her head, ”No.”

However, she knew that Meng Yunzheng had once again sent a letter to the capital.

Originally, Meng Yunzheng had a private means of contact with the new Emperor while he was still the Fifth Prince. After Gong Qiu was beheaded, Meng Yunzheng’s collaboration with the new Emperor ceased, so naturally, there was no need to contact anymore.

Until Qi Lie came to Jiangyuan County, Shu Yu started doing business with the Imperial Palace.

After that, they would contact the capital directly through Qi Lie.

Who knew that after they discovered the problem at Changjin Prefecture last time, they sent a letter to Qi Lie but never received a response. Not only that, but Meng Yunzheng’s ’greeting letter’ to Xiang Weinan also went unanswered.

The two speculated that these two contacts might both be indisposed or something might have happened.

So Meng Yunzheng resorted to his old channels of communication. This time, he went directly to the Emperor.

The Xiao Family seemed disappointed, ”Yu, if there’s any news from the capital, please make sure to inform me right away.”

”Okay.” Shu Yu nodded, ”I know you’re worried about your parents and also about Xiang Weinan. I won’t keep it from you once I get a reply.”

”Thank you.”

Shu Yu took a sip of water, ”We’ll wait a bit longer for news from the capital. I came here today for other matters. I’ve arranged a new place for you to stay, though it might not be as free as Dongqing Temple.”

The Xiao Family laughed, ”There’s no room for much demand now; not getting exposed is a blessing. Whatever the place, I’m fine with it.”

She thought Shu Yu had found her a place within the city, but to her surprise, she said, ”The place is still outside the city, though a bit further from Dongqing Temple. It’s a manor.”

”A manor?”

Shu Yu said, ”There’s an elderly couple in the manor who are our people. The manor currently belongs to them, but you’ll have to pretend to be their distant niece who’s fallen on hard times, with no family left, coming to rely on them. So you’ll need to slightly alter your appearance.”

After all, someone who’s fallen on hard times and seeking refuge wouldn’t be penniless and out of options, still wearing a curtain hat like when residing at Dongqing Temple.

Shu Yu scrutinized her features, ”I’ll teach you some concealment methods in a bit. It doesn’t need to be overly complicated—thicker eyebrows, darker complexion, add a couple of moles, wear coarse cloth clothing, tie a cloth around your head, and change your hairstyle. That should suffice for the most part. Anyway, since you’ve just arrived to depend on your Aunt and Uncle, and being unfamiliar with the area and traumatized, you prefer to stay in your room, minimizing encounters with others. But you can’t avoid showing your face entirely; perhaps once or twice, you could walk near the manor’s gate, in disguise as mentioned, and that’ll be enough.”

Don’t make it too mysterious; others are busy, and once they’ve observed for a day or two, that’ll be it. Moreover, the manor isn’t located within a village, so there aren’t many people nearby.

Those around the Xiao Family can only remain in the shadows.
