My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2026: Chapter 1819: Gathering

Isn’t the reason the family stays together to live happily? Every gathering is so short-lived!

Zhang Zhentian himself has already said it, as a father, what more can he say now?

His son has already made such a decision, so as a father, no matter what, he cannot continue to interfere in these matters anymore.

Perhaps only by letting them experience this pain themselves will they understand that some things cannot simply be forgiven by one’s own actions, and the mistakes one has made in the past must ultimately be borne by the decisions they make, resulting in consequences.

”Do whatever you want, every decision is made by you, anyway, everything we elders say just goes in one ear and out the other. In your eyes, we elders are dispensable; all you see is your wife. Since that’s the case, why do you even bother returning to this family just to make me suffer your contempt again? Did you come back just to send me to the hospital again?

Can’t you show a little bit of filial piety towards your own biological father? What’s wrong with humoring me a bit?

I am your real father. Do you really think that every word I say, every thing I do, would harm you?

Why are you so ungrateful, hurting the people who love you the most time and time again until you’re satisfied?”

Old Master Zhang was truly exasperated now. He never thought that despite his sincere advice for so long, his son remained indifferent.

No matter what he, as the father, said, in his son’s eyes, everything he said was wrong. Is he really such a failure as a father?

Is everything he does in his son’s eyes wrong?

Is it that abnormal to slightly do something right?

Xia Jing knew that Old Master Zhang was angry. She truly didn’t want to see her husband have discord with anyone in the family because of her. She felt her guilt growing heavier and heavier. Every lie she told had eventually harmed every person in the family who sincerely cared for her. Because of her lies, everyone who truly loved her kept getting hurt, again and again. How many more mistakes does she have to make in this life before she can be at peace, before these people who love her the most stop getting hurt because of her?

”How can you talk to your father like that? What he said wasn’t without reason. It was me who was wrong in the first place. Everything he says and does to you is for your own good. Why can’t you appreciate the efforts of a father?

We abandoned our child, and she struggled to raise our son on her own. It was incredibly hard for her; have you never considered that?

As humans, we must learn to be grateful. Despite the mistakes I’ve made over the years while wandering the world with you, there’s still gratitude in my heart. I thank him for painstakingly raising my son.

How much has my son paid and lost because of my decisions? Who could understand that?”

In Old Master Zhang’s eyes, every word Xia Jing said was just an act. He didn’t want to hear his daughter-in-law performing in front of him anymore. Looking at this woman seemed harmless, but in the end?

Every time wasn’t it because of this woman that their family was in chaos? Wasn’t it enough? Does our family have to keep experiencing bigger harm because of her presence?

”Enough, there’s no need for you to continue acting in front of me.

Every incident between my son and me, when was it not because of you? Since your appearance, my son and I have never spoken a word calmly to each other. Over and over, I ended up in the hospital because of her, yet when have you ever returned to care for me, to accompany me? Even though you say you’re grateful that I raised the child, I don’t need your gratitude because he is the descendant of the Zhang Family.

No matter what, I would go to any lengths to raise him because he’s the only heir of the family head. Regardless of what you’ve done in the past, I could overlook it, but with this matter, I truly cannot refrain from intervening. Whatever agreement you two reached means nothing to me.

All I want is a promise between you two that you will never do anything outrageous in this lifetime, that when you act, you consider the feelings of us, your family?”

Old Master Zhang found that being with his family was really exhausting. Why, in their eyes, is every word he says seen as harmful? Why can’t they view things from his perspective, showing him some understanding? He also wishes for a stable and peaceful life. He never intended to disrupt their marital happiness but time and again, they act in ways that test his patience to its limits.

The greatest value between a couple is loyalty, isn’t it? Besides loyalty, there’s trust. Without loyalty and trust, what’s the point of being together?

The more he dwelled on it, the less he understood, and the more confused he became. Why is it that every decision he makes is never understood by his family? How much has he sacrificed, how much has he lost, and what did he get in return?

Thinking about it now, his heart felt cold. He once was willing to sacrifice everything for his family, but all he received in return was misunderstanding, again and again.

”I don’t want to say anything now. I just hope that you both seriously think about your lives. Are you living for others, or for yourselves? If you live for others, then your life has lost all meaning; if you live for yourselves, then live with style. Stop consistently sacrificing your desires for others because a life only for a blind target isn’t a life for yourselves!”

Xia Jing knew clearly that in this lifetime she would not live for herself, but for the man she loved most in her heart.

Perhaps, sometimes she indeed asked for too much!
