My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1489: Chapter 1283: Like a Dream, Like an Illusion

Life is so difficult, happiness is always so fleeting, and seeing you is such a struggle.

Zhang Yichen was about to leave for work when he heard the quarrel coming from his father’s bedroom once again. He truly didn’t understand why his parents fought at this time, especially when they had already decided to travel around the world. Why did they suddenly change their minds?

The adult world is something he really couldn’t comprehend. Even though he already has his own child and is almost 30 years old, he still doesn’t understand why his parents’ relationship has become so delicate, constantly leading to arguments over and over again.

Is it impossible for people in a family to live together peacefully? Does there always have to be quarreling back and forth for it to have any meaning? This kind of fighting hurts everyone—don’t they know that? Why are they ignorant of the most basic common sense, only knowing how to argue and to fight over their selfish interests?

”Xia Jing, I’ve tolerated so much to be with you, but there’s some things I really can’t bear anymore. I’ve given so much for you, but are you not moved at all? Why do you always treat me this way?

Do you think I’m just a lapdog in your eyes, always at your beck and call when you want me, but easily pushed away when you don’t need me anymore?

It must be admitted that I owe you nothing. Since I’ve chosen to be with you in this way, it only proves that I genuinely want to live the life we’re dreaming of together. But in your eyes, you never cherish it. You only use me until I’m no longer valuable, then you easily cast me aside. Do you know how painful your actions are to me?”

”I’ve told you there are some things I also want to explain and clarify. Since I’ve already opened up to you about these things, yet you can’t understand, what meaning is there in us being together? I also wanted to happily go out and travel with you; that’s why I said these things to you upfront. But as soon as I opened my mouth, you reacted this way; how do you expect me to continue discussing things with you?

With an attitude like yours, do you think there’s any point in traveling together? Doing so would only lead to arguments. Do you find it amusing to quarrel openly in public, making others laugh at us?

You are a man and care about your face, but I care about mine too. Can’t everyone consider each other’s feelings when doing things? Why do you always have to be like this? Since I promised to travel around the world with you, I will definitely go, but there are some things I must make clear to you. Just because I agreed doesn’t mean I can ignore everything or remain silent!

I find our arguments to be really exhausting. Every small matter leads to a quarrel. Do you realize what kind of hurt these fights bring to everyone? You might think it’s just a routine, something common, but that’s not how I feel. I just want some peace in life.”

”In your eyes, it seems everything I do is wrong. Have you never considered that you might also be in the wrong at some point? Do you truly consider me as your partner in the things you do? Have you ever thought about my feelings?

Since you can’t do it yourself, how can you demand the same from me for the things you ask of me? Do you even understand the meaning of not imposing on others what you don’t desire yourself? Things you don’t want, how can you force others to accept them? They owe you nothing. Their repeated compliance only shows there’s goodwill towards you, care and concern, which is why they are so accommodating to you.

But if this person doesn’t love you at all deep down, then why would they treat you so well? Doing so would only make them feel emotionally drained, right? Why are you always so selfish when doing things, never considering anyone else’s feelings? Do you really think living so self-centeredly is good?”

”At last, you’re speaking your mind. So to you, I’ve always been a selfish person living only for myself, never considering anything else. But you don’t know that everything I’ve been doing wasn’t for myself at all. It’s simply to be with the person I love. But after waiting so long, being so capricious, repeatedly thinking whether I was wrong to act this way.

I’ve thought long and hard about this, and all I wanted was just to return to his side and spend a lifetime together. But in the end, he gave me no way out; he decided to cut all ties with me. Yet, in my heart, I will always be his wife, even after all these years of being married to you. Deep down, I only see you as a brother. I simply can’t look at you as my husband. Do you know how unchangeable that psychological effect is, lasting a lifetime?

I love him just as you love me. You know very well the lengths you’d go for me. Just as I love him, as much as you love me, you should understand how deep my love runs for him. It’s not something that can simply be forgotten or easily altered; it’s an entrenched love, deeply etched in my heart with no way to erase it. That’s why I went to such lengths. You loved me with all your heart, just as I suffered loving him. Yet, the days with him were happy, sweet, and joyful. While with you, though smiling on the surface, deep down, I never once smiled from the heart because you’re not the one I love, I just don’t have any feelings for you.”

Zhang Zhentian could overlook everything his wife had done, but these words today truly made him struggle. All these years, none of his efforts moved her; he realized he was never the person she truly loved, no matter how much he gave, even his life. To her, it was just like that, and she didn’t care about his existence...

Life is about constantly breaking your set goals, challenging your limits, and becoming an indestructible person
