My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1476: Chapter 1270: Ancient Poems

The most willing to forget the ancient poems, the most disdainful of longing.

Why do people always realize what they missed only after losing again and again, yet never learn to cherish at the very beginning?

Zhang Yichen listens to the bustling sounds of his wife moving around and feels immensely grateful for taking his grandfather’s advice not to harshly drive her out of the house. If not, where could he find such a virtuous wife by his side? Life is like this, often realizing the perfection and importance of what you had only after you nearly lose it.

”Zhihan, what would we do if Grandpa suddenly left us? We’ve grown so used to his presence over the years. His care has been meticulous, giving us everything he believes to be the best, yet we can’t help him with anything. Now daily he battles with illness, and this may be a long fight. Seeing his inner struggles, my heart aches. I know what Grandpa cares about, yet I am powerless to help him achieve his deepest wishes, as I have to consider his feelings too.

I truly can’t imagine if one day, Grandpa really left me, what I would do. My greatest wish in this life is my grandfather. He has given too much for me, yet I have never repaid him in any way. I lack the ability to repay him. In the eyes of the world, I am a great economic emperor, yet I cannot ensure my grandfather lives to a ripe old age.”

Ran Zhihan sighed, knowing what her husband wanted to express but unsure of whether saying it was good or bad. Her heart too was filled with conflict and pain. So many things she doesn’t want to consider, yet these things demand choice as without choosing, there is no way forward.

”Yichen, now we shouldn’t be thinking of anything else. We should consider how to live happily ourselves so that he or she can live the life they want and not worry for us like before. His life has always centered around us. As long as he sees us happy, he believes it’s the happiest thing in the world. But we never considered him. He needs our care, needs our companionship, needs us by his side!

In the past, I was foolish, often arguing with you, causing Grandpa constant worry. Seeing his white hair on the sickbed, his pale face—it truly breaks my heart, yet I don’t know what to say. I can only stand silently and watch as illness torments him. I’m afraid if I speak, Grandpa will think his illness is severe. I don’t know how to comfort him. I only think that if Grandpa has a chance to recover, I will definitely look after him well. It’s because of him I have achieved this success. It’s him who made my marriage so happy, so perfect. It’s him who brought back my nearly broken marriage to its initial state!

We can’t do much but the best we can offer is to accompany Grandpa with a grateful heart, let him live happily. I know Grandpa has always wanted a surprise, and this can only be achieved by the two of us. So, I thought we should give Grandpa a peek of the surprise soon. Perhaps, stimulated by this, his pain might vanish quickly and he could recover and leave the hospital. I know that’s something you wanted to discuss with me today but didn’t know how to bring it up, so you kept changing the topic!

Since I have brought up this matter myself, you no longer need to feel troubled about how to speak about it. We must say what needs to be said and do what needs to be done. There’s not much right or wrong, just knowing. Since we are doing this, we must make it worthwhile, so Grandpa can recover soon due to this good news!”

Zhang Yichen did not expect his wife to plan everything out for him so well, fearing he wouldn’t know how to bring up the surprise, she spoke of it herself. This saved him from embarrassment and enabled him to fulfill Grandpa’s greatest wish.

”Wife, thank you. You are the greatest blessing of my life. If not for a wife like you, how could I have stepped forward joyfully again and again? You have witnessed my most painful times so you should understand my desire for happiness and joy is more urgent than others. When Grandpa got sick and hospitalized, I knew there were many things I didn’t know how to talk about, nor did I know if I should inform Sister. But having you by my side always feels like the warmest thing. You help me understand the truth of things time and again, making sure I’m not confused each time I act!”

Ran Zhihan didn’t know how to respond to her husband. If she said she would always stay by his side, would it seem like she lacked confidence, like someone who clings on? Yet seeing her husband so vulnerable in front of her, how could she not be moved? She wanted to comfort him, to let him continue to rely on her. This reliance is eternal, the lifelong reliance between a husband and wife that can never be broken.

”We should make some delicious food and visit Grandpa. Since we decided to give him a surprise, we need to prepare well. First, let him regain his health, and who knows, maybe soon we can give him the good news he’s been waiting for!”

Even though neither of them spoke about it explicitly, they saw happiness in each other’s eyes. Isn’t this a piece of happiness as well? Happiness is really simple; as long as a couple stands united, facing all difficulties together, it is the greatest joy and happiness, right?

They busied themselves in the kitchen to prepare a nutritious and abundant dinner for Old Master Zhang. They were both so busy yet joyful, not realizing that within a few days, the good news would really arrive, making everyone eagerly await it.

Perhaps I feared my love being mocked, more afraid of others seeing the thoughts deep within. Watching the beans sprout and bloom over the mountains over and over again, yet no lovers come to pick them, maybe fireworks have the allure, but genuine emotions are long gone.
