My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1470: Chapter 1264: Unable to See Through

Some things cannot be seen through, and some things, I have no way to truly understand.

A gust of wind is like a dream; loving him is just something unpredictable in life. We do not understand what has bewitched our hearts for each other, only remembering that our coldness has been submerged in the night.

Old Master Zhang stood outside the door, listening to the conversation between his son and daughter-in-law. He had been listening for so long, yet he didn’t hear any truth.

He always thought his son was a person with high emotional intelligence, but he found that his son was actually this foolish. Is this the way a woman should be treated? If so, why do other women avoid him time and again?

He couldn’t hold back anymore; he really had to stand up. He pushed open the door and stood in his son’s bedroom, wanting to lecture his son and daughter-in-law properly.

”Dad, why are you here?” Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing asked in unison when they saw Old Master Zhang push the door open and come in.

”Why shouldn’t I be here? If I hadn’t come, would you two ever stop? I’ve listened at the door for so long, and neither of you recognizes your mistakes?

Zhang Zhentian, don’t you have the basic dignity and backbone of my son? If a woman doesn’t love you, she just doesn’t. No matter what you give, she won’t fall in love with you. Since that’s the case, why do you still cling to wanting to be with her? No matter what you do for her, even risking your life, does her heart truly see you as her most loved one?

It never will because her heart has already been given to someone else, and you will never be able to win her heart in this lifetime.

A happy marriage requires effort from both sides, but the prerequisite is that there must be deep feelings and sufficient trust. Do you think you both still have the deep feelings and basic trust now? Each of you is suspicious of the other. Do you think this really brings happiness?

I truly didn’t expect that the child I raised with great effort would have such a foolish moment. You didn’t apply yourself, and I could think of that as being your choice since you have some skills, but why haven’t you even learned the most basic things? Don’t you know how to protect your own dignity? Do you let your wife point fingers at you repeatedly, and all you can do is keep apologizing to her? Do you think that’ll soften her heart?”

Xia Jing felt embarrassed hearing her father say this; she could only give a silly smile, but her smile angered Old Master Zhang.

”What are you smiling about? Do you think it’s fun that your husband has repeatedly given his all for you, even risking his life? Are you really that cold-hearted? Do you really have no feeling at all about how your husband treats you? Trying to be with him, trying to accept him, wouldn’t that be a blessing for you?

Sometimes it’s better not to take things too seriously because that way you might feel happy in your heart, but for those around you, it’s painful.

Perhaps you still don’t understand what you did wrong. You hid your feelings and trapped my son in an emotional turmoil because he fell into it, unable to extricate himself for life.

Do you find joy in being with him, happiness? Is this really the life you want deep down? Have you ever thought about how you should live your life, and what results will come from such decisions?”

”I really can’t understand why you two keep grappling with this day and night. I’ve overheard my son time and again pleading with you to try being with him, but you remain cold-hearted, without even the basic smile or respect for him!

No matter what, you are legally husband and wife. Is it truly appropriate for you to act like this? Watching your partner lower their head time and again, does it really make you happy and fulfilled?

Sometimes you take his kindness for granted, and when you get used to it, and one day he changes, you’ll feel abandoned, as if the world has left you.

But has he really changed? Did he really abandon you? He’s been so hurt by you he doesn’t know how to speak these words, so he hides like a hedgehog. It’s the only way he knows to protect himself, never to allow himself to be emotionally harmed again. Have you never considered what he’s been through? You only know what you want, not what gives him joy. Understanding all he’s done, you could try bringing him some happiness and yourself too.

There are things I can’t openly say to you, but I hope you can give them due consideration. A considered decision is a correct one, sparing oneself lifelong regrets. Making an impulsive decision with lasting regret destroys its meaning entirely.”

Xia Jing and Old Master Zhang felt their father was right.

Xia Jing thought, am I really so cold-hearted? Why, when her husband lowered himself repeatedly and said touching words, did she choose silence? Why did she reject and evade whenever he conceded out of kindness?

Sometimes there are just two photos, and she thinks her aura seems stone-hearted; no matter what she contributes, it’s never enough in his eyes. He never changes his past view, just sees her sacrificing everything for what results only in his cold treatment, causing her deep hurt.

In the end, watching everything change unpredictably, hardly feeling the moment they embraced each other, only to have the eyes lonelier than any moonlight, they recognized that no happiness remained, only the sight of one another happy in someone else’s arms. Perhaps touching each other’s hearts is impossibly hard. No matter how, we cannot discern others’ hearts.
