My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1488: Chapter 1282: Bones Painted Into Sand

I live in this world as if in a dream, yet I have struggled for so long, never thinking of giving up on you.

Zhang Zhentian and his wife’s surgeries went on for a day and a night. At this last moment, he stood outside the door, constantly waiting, fearing that bad news might come out from the ward.

He hadn’t slept for a day and a night, not even closing his eyes. He was waiting, hoping for a miracle to happen to him. He truly wished that his family could be safe, regardless of what kind of torment or hardship he had to endure. To him, nothing else mattered as long as his family was safe.

On the third day, the light in the operating room finally went out. When the surgeon came out of the hospital, they saw this elderly man standing outside, his hair white, his face full of anxiousness. She was so afraid that her son might never come down from the operating table again.

But some results inevitably make one feel deep pain and despair. Perhaps this outcome might break the heart of an elderly person. However, faced with such a father, there was nothing that could be done about such a thing. He had reached this point on his own, not because someone else forced him.

”Doctor, how is my son? (How are my parents?)” Old Master Zhang and Zhang Yichen asked in unison. He really wanted to know how his family was. Maybe others could truly be indifferent to some things, but how could he possibly be indifferent to his family? No matter what they had done before, no matter what blows had been delivered to him, some things had to be done. They would always be his parents, a fact that would never change in his lifetime.

”Perhaps this result is a blow to you, but I still have to tell you that this time the risk was too great. They might wake up paralyzed in bed, unable to walk. The man, due to the car accident compressing his brain nerves, is in a more severe condition than the woman. I hope you, as their family, are mentally prepared.

We have done our best. I can only say that they are not yet out of danger. They must still be monitored in the intensive care unit until all vital signs stabilize, after which they will be moved to the general ward. I hope you can wait patiently,” the doctor said.

Zhang Yichen did not quite understand the doctor’s words in front of him. Why did he say his father’s condition was more serious than his mother’s? If there was a possibility his mother would be paralyzed in bed for life, then what kind of result would his father, who was in a more serious condition, face?

”Doctor, I hope you can be a bit clearer, okay? If my father’s condition is more severe than my mother’s, and my mother may be paralyzed in bed, what will my father’s condition be like?”

”I have to admit that due to the impact of this car accident, the possibility of him becoming a vegetable is very high. If he can trust in miracles, maybe one will wake him up. But if no miracle occurs, he may never wake up again in this lifetime.

This time we put everything into rescuing him for a day and a night, and this was the best result we could achieve. The impact was too great, and the remaining time was too long. He might not be able to make it. But I hope you can still keep a good mindset and believe that a miracle will happen. Perhaps after the critical period, he will wake up. If 72 hours pass after the critical period and he still can’t wake up, then he will be a vegetative state!”

Zhang Yichen never imagined his father would end up like this one day. This was the last outcome he wanted to see. No matter what mistakes his parents had made, he hoped they would be safe and healthy. If he hadn’t meddled, asking whether his parents still intended to travel, then things wouldn’t have turned out this way. If his mother hadn’t cared so much about appearances and agreed to continue to travel around the world, how could this severe car accident have happened on the road?

Now, the only thing to do is to take good care of Grandpa, ensuring that his parents recover peacefully and wake up early.

Old Master Zhang was completely devastated after hearing the doctor’s response. He couldn’t accept such a fate for his son and daughter-in-law. He spent his life working hard to ensure they could live happily, and now they were choosing to leave him. Why had such a thing occurred this time? If it were up to him, he would rather they never returned home as long as they could be happy and safe; that was enough.

”Grandpa, my parents are under our care. Please, hurry back to rest. You’ve been up for a day and a night without rest. If this continues, your body won’t hold out. I know you’re worried about them, but if they knew that because they had an accident, you weren’t eating, drinking, or sleeping, their hearts would ache. They care about you too, so take good care of yourself for your own sake!”

”Child, you say that my son and daughter-in-law are lying here, and as an old man, how can I rest my mind and heart at home? I might as well stay here with you for a bit longer, isn’t that right? I want to wait until they are out of danger before going back, so I can be at peace.”

”Grandpa, please don’t argue with me on this, just go back and rest. As long as you conserve your strength, I believe mom and dad will quickly regain consciousness. If they wake up and see that you’re worn out, they’ll blame my wife and me for not taking good care of you.”

Old Master Zhang knew he couldn’t win against his grandson. He decided to return home, acknowledging that his wife made sense. Not wanting his son and daughter-in-law to wake up concerned, he chose to go back home and rest properly. Maybe this was the outcome they all hoped to see.

Zhang Yichen sent Old Master Zhang home and then drove back to the hospital alone. Seeing his parents lying in the intensive care unit, his heart felt a mix of emotions.

”If only you had spent more time with us, if I hadn’t meddled in this matter, you wouldn’t be in this state now. It’s all my fault. You must stay safe, wake up soon, please don’t let us worry more, and don’t let grandpa be hurt. I beg you...”

Some things just have to be this way. Everyone carries their own scars, but only by persevering can they move further along.
