Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 497: Chapter 308: Selling Fish (Part 2)

Jiang Hu nodded: ”Yes, but before we start selling, we need to go somewhere first.”

Xiaomi sat on the ox cart, swinging her legs, and quickly asked when she heard her father’s words: ”Dad, are we going to Grandpa Liu’s house?”

”Yes, we’ll first deliver the fish to Grandpa Liu’s house and let his butler send it to your Uncle Liu’s place.”

The Grandpa Liu’s house Jiang Hu mentioned was a place they had been once before, and they still remembered the way.

All the way there, Xiaomi consistently called out every now and then, her voice was clear and penetrating, and even after shouting all morning, her throat wasn’t a bit hoarse.

From entering South City until they reached Uncle Liu’s place, they sold a total of only three fish, which were bought by the stewards from other people’s mansions, saying that the young lady or madam at home heard the call and wanted to taste what was different about these paddy field fish.

The door was called, and the gatekeeper quickly found the butler, who was an acquaintance, and Jiang Hu didn’t waste words, directly having the butler bring some wooden buckets over.

They filled two big buckets with various fish, and then put a big basin of small fish aside before hurriedly leaving again.

They walked through every street in South City, of course encountering some scolding, but by the time the people came out, their ox cart was already leaving.

Jiang Hu and Xiaomi were used to it, in Xiangma Town when they first started selling fish, it was much the same. The rich districts just had fewer idle people on the roads.

As they left South City, Yang Shulin finally let out a long sigh of relief.

”Brother Jiang, now I understand why your family can make money,” he said.

Don’t be fooled by his active and talkative nature with many ideas in the village, but in the city, when the guards stopped them, his legs must have gone weak with fear.

Not to mention having to hawk on the streets and promote to every restaurant, facing rejection and even scolding, ending up all the way in South City!

Who knew that along this way, his clothes were soaked with cold sweat while sitting on the ox cart, afraid that a group of house guards would suddenly appear and beat them to death with sticks.

Jiang Hu just smiled at Yang Shulin’s praise.

”You’ll get used to it. The first time I did this, I was awkward too. But thinking back, actually not many people care about what we’re doing.”

Yang Shulin nodded thoughtfully. In the bustling market earlier, many passersby did look over when they heard Xiaomi and Jiang Hu’s hawking.

But if you looked closely, you could notice that when these people saw they were selling fish and weren’t interested, they simply turned away and paid no mind.

”By the way, Brother Jiang, where are we heading now? Back home?”

They had already been to three of the four city districts in Cheng County. The northern district was where government officials lived, so they dared not venture there.

However, they had only sold two or three hundred pounds of fish.

Jiang Hu swung the ox whip, leading the way: ”No rush to head back, let’s go to the market in the East City first.”

By now lunch time was over, and it was expected that a restaurant would have cooked the fish they just bought for customers.

Besides, many ordinary families also bought fish, and surely some had it for lunch as well.

Jiang Hu was confident in their paddy field fish, even though he hadn’t eaten any this year. Going to the East Market now, they could surely sell another batch!

Though Yang Shulin didn’t have Jiang Hu’s boldness, he understood as soon as he mentioned East Market.

Wherever someone was selling fish earlier, Jiang Hu loudly announced they were selling at East Market, ensuring that if anyone wanted to buy more, they would head to East Market.

Even though Jiang Hu said it was for tomorrow, on the way, surely someone would see their unsold fish and head over to East Market.

With this in mind, Yang Shulin felt his spirits lift.

Just as they entered East Market, Xiaomi jumped off the ox cart.

”Dad, Uncle Yang can sell fish here, I’m going to explore elsewhere.”

She said it without waiting for her father’s consent and ran off in a flash. Jiang Hu had just reached out a hand when he was interrupted by a question from an elderly woman nearby.

”Are you the one selling paddy field fish?”

Jiang Hu quickly nodded: ”Yes, aunty, do you want to buy some fish?”

Turning his head again, even Xiaomi’s silhouette had disappeared.

”Give me a big one, the old lady next door said it was delicious, I’ve been waiting for you for a while.”

”Alright, hold on, I’ll get you a big one.”

Jiang Hu didn’t have time to worry about Xiaomi because a crowd had already gathered around.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi was happily darting through the market.

She came with an important purpose today, but it was getting late now, and she wasn’t sure if she’d find what she wanted.

But first things first, she needed a disguise.

While following the ox cart through the city, she got a feel for the streets and quickly found an alley piled with various junk.

Over time, she had secretly collected some of her brothers’ clothes, which she now put on. She then smeared some dirt on her face and added a noticeable mole. This way, when people looked at her, they’d first notice the mole and not pay attention to her appearance.

In less than a quarter of an hour, the cute little girl had transformed into a street urchin-like boy as she emerged from the alley.

Returning to East Market, Xiaomi instinctively avoided Jiang Hu, who was at the gate of East Market selling. But there was already a sizable crowd around the two ox carts, including a couple of shop boys she’d seen before.

It looked like today’s fish wouldn’t be a hard sell.

Reassured, Xiaomi went about her mission.

The East City was mostly home to common folk, unlike North and South City, which housed officials and wealthy people. East Market was conveniently located near the center of Cheng County, making it accessible for shopping from northern and southern districts.

Therefore, this market was naturally the largest in all of Cheng County.

However, Xiaomi wasn’t interested in the small dishes and snacks; what she truly wanted to see lay further inside!
