Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 454: Chapter 283: Wild Boar

”Why are they all military books?” Jiang Yu, with the steward’s permission, took a tour around the study.

According to the steward, this study was for the master of the house to pass time during his rare visits to the villa, so there weren’t any valuable books in it.

But after a quick glance, they found that almost all the books were about military strategy, even the biographies were related to warfare.

Jiang Yu and Liu Ze exchanged a glance, and a possibility occurred to them.

”No way, really? That’s kind of unbelievable,” Jiang Yu clicked his tongue.

Liu Ze wasn’t too concerned: ”Don’t think too much about it, we’re just reading to pass the time.”

Jiang Yu thought the same and casually picked up the nearest book to start reading.

The exam was about to begin; they had learned what they needed to learn and had mastered just about everything. For the next couple of days, they just needed to rest and gather energy.

Yingying was also in the courtyard next door, where there was a place set up for them to rest. After sitting for a while, she took out her needlework.

She wanted to make some spare clothes for her two brothers. They were going to be there for nine days, it was midsummer, and it was very hot with lots of sweat, so even if they wore one set for two days, they’d need four or five sets.

Soon after, the second aunt and Jiang Hu returned. The second aunt helped with the children’s clothes while Jiang Hu went to the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi and Wei Ziang followed Yingying into the forest, where there were many trees, so they didn’t ride horses and went on foot.

Of course, Xiaomi and Jiang Yu wouldn’t either.

After walking for a while, Wei Ziang picked up a fallen branch: ”Look, this one is pretty fresh and snapped off; could a large animal have passed through here?”

Xiaomi took a closer look: ”The snapped part is already dry; it looks like it broke last night.”

Having grown up in the countryside, he could tell with one glance what fallen branches and leaves looked like.

Wei Ziang nodded; it should be about right.

Yingying also looked closely and agreed with her younger siblings’ conclusion.

The guards who followed behind exchanged surprised glances but didn’t say much.

Soon, they found more traces of broken branches, but these marks were messy and had no pattern, making it seem impossible to track the prey just by them.

Wei Ziang thought for a moment and asked, ”Miss Yingying, do you know where the nearest water source is?”

With a water source, there will be animals lurking, even if it’s just a rabbit.

”I know, I know, follow me.”

In such a short time, Yingying could already tell that Xiaomi and Wei Ziang were indeed experienced hunters.

Even though they held relatively simple bows and arrows, they were calm and composed.

Compared to herself, although the bows were fine tallow wood, the best sinew, and the arrowheads were made of refined iron.

But upon entering the forest, Yingying could tell the difference.

She was excited, thrilled, and happy, almost unable to contain her emotions.

But Wei Ziang and Xiaomi were different. Even with the simplest equipment, they calmed down completely in the forest. Observing everything around them with all their senses would be an understatement.

Those broken branches and such were clearly beside her, she even saw them, but still needed her younger siblings to point them out to notice them.

Is this the difference between a veteran and a novice?

Yingying felt like she even saw the shadows of the guards hunting in the two of them!

Moments later, Yingying led them to a nearby stream.

”Let’s find a suitable spot to ambush and see if we can catch any animals,”

Xiaomi suggested. There were too many of them, so they needed to be quiet. Only then would the forest’s small animals come out on their own.

”Alright.” Yingying nodded and then turned to the guards behind: ”Let’s split up and hide. Some of you go with Xiaomi and Wei Ziang.”

After all, they invited them out, and Yingying was worried there might be wild beasts in the forest.

”Everyone, let’s stay quiet, and see who catches the prey first!”

Xiaomi was eager to try as well and directly ran upstream, leaving Yingying behind.

Wei Ziang did the same but went further upstream. Once they found good spots to ambush, he had the guards quietly hide as well.

Once the forest returned to its quiet, all kinds of sounds suddenly became apparent. Sitting quietly on a rock, Xiaomi held her bow and arrows, observing her surroundings.

She wasn’t too close to the stream, but the tall rock gave her a broader view, so even if she handled the bow and arrows, she wouldn’t rustle any leaves or make noise.

After a while, Xiaomi carefully stood up and glanced in one direction, having heard rustling sounds.

Xiaomi raised an eyebrow, listening to the sounds; whatever it was, it wasn’t small.

She nocked an arrow and drew the string, aiming in the direction of the sound.

Though she couldn’t see what it was, a small patch of grass shook and approached her.

The direction Xiaomi’s arrow pointed also changed slowly with the grass’s sway.

Judging by the movements, it could’ve been something weighing a hundred pounds or so, and not very tall, perhaps a...

’Snort, snort...’ a sound reached her ears, and Xiaomi’s eyes lit up instantly.

At that moment, a black-brown head emerged from the grass, with short but thick limbs, a rather elongated head, and small but erect ears.

A just-matured wild boar!

”Little brother, come!” Xiaomi shouted, shooting the arrow in her hand swiftly.

In the next moment, the arrow pierced straight into the wild boar’s eye, accompanied by a splash of blood, eliciting a miserable wail.

Wild boar hide is thick, and back then, she could barely wound a deer hide, let alone a wild boar.

Being so young, her strength wasn’t enough.

But an animal’s eye is a weakness, and the arrow sunk in nearly two inches deep!

Then, due to the pain, the wild boar shrieked and ran amok, knocking the arrow off a tree trunk nearby, adding to its injuries.

But due to the extreme pain, the boar mostly spun in place instead of running away.

Consequently, it became hard to aim at the wild boar’s eye again.

Xiaomi quickly jumped off the rock, planning to change position when an arrow whizzed from afar.

The next second, another wail sounded, even more tragic.

Both eyes had been hit by arrows in succession, with the latter arrow snapping during its rampage, leaving the arrowhead inside.

Jiang Yu hurried over: ”Xiaomi, are you okay?”

”I’m fine.” Xiaomi shook her head as she looked at the guards behind her: ”Uncle, may I borrow one of your knives?”

Trying to harm a wild boar with bows and arrows wasn’t easy, but changing weapons might be simpler.

But in the next moment, something was stuffed into her hand.

”No need, Xiaomi, use this. The knife is too heavy, and we’re not adept with it.”

It was a dagger that Wei Ziang had used to handle game previously.

Moreover, now there were two, one for each of them.

Xiaomi didn’t stop to think. She dropped the bow and arrows and charged forward with her brother, not even noticing the guards’ attempts to retain her.

Such a fine specimen could not escape!
