Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 471: Chapter 295: Favoritism

Just as Wei Ziang returned to his room door, he saw his second sister coming out of her courtyard, holding a basket.

”Ziang, perfect timing, this is for you.” Xiaoxue took out a pair of cloth shoes from the basket: ”Didn’t you say you would start running to school in the future? I made a few pairs with thicker soles, it’s more comfortable to walk in them.”

Wei Ziang hurriedly accepted them with both hands: ”Thank you, Second Sister.”

Xiaoxue shook her head with a smile: ”No need to be polite, this pair is for Wei. You can put it in her room on your way.”

Saying so, she handed another pair to Wei Ziang.

Wei Ziang also noticed two other new pairs in the basket, presumably for big brother and Brother Ze, which surprised him a bit.

”Second Sister, how did you make so many pairs so quickly?”

He knew that on the way back, Second Sister hadn’t been idle in the carriage, but this was really a lot!

”It wasn’t just me, Mother helped too. Alright, you take a rest first, I’ll deliver these two pairs to them.”

She pointed to the opposite room as she spoke.

It was Jiang Yu and Liu Ze’s room. Uncle Liu also lived in this courtyard, but closer to the outer courtyard where Qixi and Aunt Yang resided, so any commotion could be heard immediately.

Apart from the front and back yards, this courtyard only had a main courtyard and a small side courtyard for living. The two girls lived separately in a small side courtyard about the same size as the study opposite.

The boys lived in the several side rooms of the main courtyard.

After Xiaoxue left, Wei Ziang went to find Jiang Wei next door. The room was empty; he assumed he hadn’t finished bathing yet, so he left the shoes in the room.

On his way out, he saw his second sister at Brother Ze’s door, the two seemed to be talking about something, and Brother Ze gave something to his second sister, which made her face light up with joy.

Wei Ziang raised an eyebrow, then pursed his lips and sighed before returning to his own room.

Brother Ze’s affection for Second Sister was as obvious as the intentions of Sima Zhao, known to everyone except Second Sister herself.

Even so, everyone felt Brother Ze still had a good chance, as Second Sister didn’t like interacting with outsiders. Apart from going to the embroidery workshop, she mostly stayed at home, occasionally picking vegetables in the garden.

Back in Fu’an Village, with lots of chores and few helping hands, Second Sister used to help in the fields. But after moving to Xiangmu Village, Uncle Jiang hired laborers whenever things got busy, and Second Sister almost never ventured out.

The only man outside the family she interacted with was Liu Ze.

While pondering this, Wei Ziang completely forgot that, to Jiang Xiaoxue, he was technically an outsider too!

Even though Jiang Hu took him as a foster son to have him stay peacefully with the Jiang family, they didn’t share any blood relation! ℯℯ𝘭.

Unfortunately, no one knew what Wei Ziang was murmuring about in his heart and hence no one could remind him of this fact.

Maybe it was because he truly didn’t consider Second Sister an outsider, who knows, right?

Trying on the new shoes, they were slightly large, but since the temperature would drop in a month or two, thicker socks would make them fit perfectly.

After putting the cloth shoes away, Wei Ziang took out a wooden box from under his pillow, containing a heap of wood fragments, a carving knife, and a smooth, small bead.

These wood fragments were scraps of agarwood, but even as scraps, they cost him all he had saved over the years along with the money he earned from hunting this time at Nanyang Prefecture.

Even so, he could only buy twenty-seven pieces of wood fragments, and the carving knife was something he had to ask for, with cheekily having a master help make a hole in the center of each piece.

With this, once he carved and polished them, they could be strung together directly.

Thinking of this, Wei Ziang planned to find some time to go to the mountains and fields to gather some horsetail grass to dry, useful for polishing sandalwood beads.

Agarwood is usually more popular among men, but this piece wasn’t meant for himself.

He thought, Xiaomei never really liked the things girls usually do; compared to fragile jade bracelets, a sandalwood wristlet might be more to her liking.

At least a sandalwood wristlet wouldn’t hinder her sword practice or hunting.

Moreover, sandalwood wristlets have the added benefits of warding off evil and nurturing health, which also explains the high price despite being just scraps of wood.

If it were an entire string of beads, even ten times the money wouldn’t be enough to buy one strand.
