Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 460: Chapter 288: The Decision

Back at the spicy hotpot shop, everyone deliberately ate light meals for two days to regulate their bodies.

All those heavy meals from the past few days made everyone feel overheated, so a couple of days with vegetables and whole grains were needed to cool down, especially since the two examinees were returning soon, and good meals would be prepared again.

The day before the exams ended, Wang Fu had already gotten the carriage ready.

From past experiences, at this moment, many students are either carried out or holding onto the wall as they leave, and those in the best shape are stumbling.

Early the next morning, as the day broke, Wang Fu called Jiang Hu, and without even eating breakfast, they hurriedly drove the carriage away, instructing Auntie and Master Yang to prepare something to nourish their bodies.

They directly slaughtered chickens for soup, and even tossed in half of the ginseng delivered by Mrs. Liu.

Initially, everyone thought they would be back soon, worried that the chicken soup might not be ready by then, so Auntie whisked several eggs prepared over the past few days to make a few bowls of steamed egg custard first.

However, once the custard was prepared, as soon as they arrived home, it could be steamed over the fire and would be ready to eat in fifteen minutes.

But as the chicken soup was simmering, they didn’t return.

Auntie, along with Xiao Xue, went to the market to buy fish and vegetables, yet they still hadn’t returned.

After a whole hour of waiting, they finally came back!

Little Si had been guarding at the shop entrance and upon seeing the familiar carriage, hurriedly shouted into the house, ”They’re back! They’re back!”

The children all dashed out in unison, leaving Auntie and Master Yang to scoop two bowls of chicken soup and start steaming the custard.

The carriage quickly stopped at the shop entrance; Jiang Hu was driving, with Wang Fu sitting beside him. After the carriage finished, Wang Fu acted like a little servant, first grabbing the foot stool and then reaching out to assist the person inside.

”Second Young Master, take it easy, watch your step.”

It was obvious to the naked eye that Liu Ze had become much weaker, with a pale face lacking color, even his walking seemed unsteady.

Jiang Yu was much better, but still appeared much weaker than before the exam.

Auntie came out a bit late, and after seeing them, breathed a sigh of relief.

”Thank goodness, come inside for some chicken soup and egg custard. Then you can have a good nap and rise to eat something later.”

Jiang Yu was alright, his footing was fairly stable, whereas Liu Ze was directly supported inside by Wang Fu.

Little Si moved the carriage to the back, and Jiang Hu entered carrying a book satchel in one hand, seeing the two children under the pavilion drinking chicken soup, he couldn’t help but feel heartache.

”Luckily, our family prepared a lot; when we picked them up today, they were even weaker than what Uncle Liu described, some were directly carried out by soldiers.”

Auntie was startled, ”Was it that serious?”

She thought most would be like their own children.

Jiang Hu nodded, ”There were many carriages picking up people today, we were stuck at the front and saw many students leave, hardly any could walk by themselves.”

Jiang Yu was definitely in the best condition among them, followed by Liu Ze.

Liu Ze’s condition was due to his own underlying issues.

The chicken soup today was secretly boiled with a lot of Spiritual Spring water by Xiao Mi, Jiang Yu having finished a bowl felt instantly reinvigorated.

”Actually, the exam hall had everything well-prepared, but many scholars don’t exercise or cook for themselves, some can’t even start a fire.”

”The unluckiest one was the person next to me; he couldn’t start a fire and filled the exam hall with smoke, eventually having his fire sticks and flints confiscated.”

”Oh my!” Auntie exclaimed, ”Then how did he eat?”

”He made cold meals, and got a stomach ache, having diarrhea for several days, till he was too weak and was sent out.”

When it came to this matter, Jiang Yu was filled with a feeling of hopelessness.

He was just next door, diarrhea and all; for ventilation, the walls between the two rooms were like a crude wooden enclosure, offering no privacy!

Heavens know how he survived those days!

Liu Ze added, ”I heard that during his diarrhea spell, he insisted on writing articles and ended up soiling his pants.”

Jiang Yu waved his hand with closed eyes, ”Stop it, Xiao Ze, don’t talk about it, just thinking about it is terrifying.”

Then, at that moment, Jiang Wei leaned close to his elder brother, sniffed, and suddenly pushed back, pinching his nose in mock surprise, ”Oh! Brother, you stink!”
