Chapter 496: Chapter 308: Selling Fish

”Fish for sale, fish for sale! The fish raised in the rice paddies are fat and firm, and they’re fresh and cheap~~”

As soon as the ox cart stopped, Xiaomi pulled off his hat and stood up right on the cart, shouting at the top of his lungs.

Yang Shulin, who had never seen such a scene, was startled. Jiang Hu, on the other hand, was already used to it and even raised his voice to ask the shopkeeper who had been drawn over by Xiaomi’s shout.

”Shopkeeper, do you want to buy some fish? These are fresh from the paddies, grown by eating bugs off the rice stalks. They’re really fat and taste great.”

As he spoke, Jiang Hu casually fished out a crucian carp from the bucket.

”Look at how fat this fish is. It’s not easy for a crucian carp to grow this big.”

With Xiaomi loudly attracting customers at the front and Jiang Hu providing detailed explanations at the back, and seeing the crucian carp in his hand, it was indeed wider and thicker than ordinary ones.

Even the scales were larger.

The shopkeeper originally wanted to refuse. Fishermen by the river brought fish every other day, and not many people ate fish, so why buy more?

But before he could speak, Xiaomi turned around and gave him a sweet smile: ”Shopkeeper, our family’s fish are really good. Why not try buying some? I guarantee your business will thrive, and customers will want to eat them every day.”

The difficulty in selling fish was something Xiaomi already knew, having realized it back in Fu’an Village.

But it didn’t matter. While selling their paddy fish might be a bit troublesome in the first year, after that, every year’s paddy fish would be snapped up by people in town.

Not just from town; people from nearby villages would deliberately come to Fu’an Village during that time to buy fish, you know?

Xiaomi’s smile was indeed charming and very infectious, making people see it and can’t help but grin along.

However, the shopkeeper evidently was not swayed by the smile and only after hearing Xiaomi’s words did he take a proper look at the fish in Jiang Hu’s hand.

”Looks pretty good, but fishermen already brought some in this morning. How about leaving ten pounds?”

Each mere ten pounds, when faced with over a thousand pounds of fish, was a drop in the ocean, but at least it was a start.

Jiang Hu immediately grabbed some fish, definitely more than ten pounds: ”Alright, tomorrow morning we’ll have more paddy fish to sell in town. If you find them tasty, the shopkeeper can have someone come to the East Market to buy more tomorrow.”

The shopkeeper, without much expression, nodded and just took out twenty copper coins and signaled the assistant to take them.

Jiang Hu wasn’t upset; as long as someone bought and tried, it didn’t matter how much. After raising paddy fish for so many years, he wasn’t worried at all, you know?

He even cheerfully said farewell and left for the next inn and restaurant.

During this, Xiaomi remained on the ox cart, occasionally shouting out about selling fish~

After they had gone through several streets with inns and restaurants, half of them, due to the father-daughter duo’s enthusiasm, symbolically bought some fish.

Some bought about ten pounds, others only a few pounds.

Then they drove the ox cart, wandering down every alleyway from the west of the city to the east, and during that time, hungry, Jiang Hu even bought a few meat buns and took Yang Shulin and Xiaomi to have a bowl of wonton soup.

As they walked and shouted, they passed through the western part of the city, mainly populated by poorer families, commonly referred to as the civilian area, but there were still those willing to spend a few copper coins to buy a fish, after all, meat is meat.

In the eastern part, families were slightly better off, and upon hearing about fresh fish, some would also buy a bit.

After making the rounds, they managed to sell off over half the fish in the tub, just as Yang Shulin thought they were about to head back, Jiang Hu suddenly turned the reins and headed straight into the wealthy district in the south of town!

”Brother Jiang, isn’t this a bit off? The gentry might throw us out.”

Yang Shulin had never been to this area; even when passing by, he would rush through quickly for fear of being looked down upon by the gentry and their wives here.

Jiang Hu was slightly better off, having at least been to Nanyang Prefecture and seen a bit of the world before — earlier on, there was that girl, Yingying. Although he didn’t know her exact status, she had over a dozen guards and her own hunting ground!

Having met such a noble lady, it felt like this county’s rich area wasn’t going to eat people.

”Don’t worry, Uncle Liu said the county’s security is excellent. Even if we sell here and someone dislikes it, they’ll just ask you to move elsewhere, they won’t do anything else.”

Yang Shulin was still a bit nervous: ”Was that what the old man was telling you at home?”
