Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 493: Chapter 306: Plans (Part 2)

”Here, here, Xiao Hei, here.”

Xiao Hei didn’t even need to come up; with half of its body still hidden in the rice field, Jiang Hu handed over the bucket directly to Xiao Hei’s mouth. Xiao Hei just needed to open its mouth, and then turned its head to keep looking for fish.

At the same time, Xiao Mi suddenly let out a rapid ”meow meow” at another spot. The rice swayed for a moment to where Xiao Mi was, then shook again, and Xiao Hei emerged biting a big fish.

Behind was Xiao Mi, biting a smaller fish.

On the other side, Xiao Mi also called out, ”Dad, come here quickly, there’s some here too.”

In just a short while, Jiang Hu became the person who fetched the bucket, running back and forth on the ridge of the field. The guy who spoke earlier could hardly believe his eyes, his mouth agape in surprise.

When the water is released from the paddy field, the fish follow the flow to the outlet, so most of them are intercepted and scooped up there.

There weren’t many fish left stranded in the rice field. In less than two quarters of an hour, a person, a cat, and a dog patrolled an acre of the field, making sure there weren’t any fish left behind.

Xiao Mi had already climbed out of the field, enthusiastically heading to the next plot.

Jiang Hu casually grabbed a big carp the length of his elbow from the bucket.

”Shulin, take this fish home for your kid. These rice field fish eat insects and taste better than the ones from the river.”

He handed it over to the middle-aged man and picked up two big buckets. ”I’ll carry these back first; I need to go to town to sell them this afternoon. I’ll be off then.”

He left right away, with only Erniang carrying the other two empty buckets, hurrying to catch up with Xiao Mi and the others.

But Yang Shulin, who initially came to watch the fun, was left holding the big carp that was still flopping in his hands, feeling somewhat bewildered for a moment.

But he quickly collected himself. ”Such a big fish, just right for my pregnant wife, maybe she’ll give me a bouncing baby boy.”

He muttered to himself while hurrying back with the big carp. When others asked him on the way, he answered truthfully.

There was just one thing he didn’t mention.

Is Jiang Hu’s claim that rice field fish taste better actually true?

When planting rice seedlings, the Jiang family had someone scoop out quite a few fish from several ponds to raise in their water fields, and everyone thought he was just messing around.

Raising fish in the rice field, wouldn’t that ruin the crops?

Besides, the water in the paddy field isn’t deep. It’s uncertain whether the fish could survive.

The fact proved that not only did the fish survive, but they also grew quite a bit.

Moreover, the Jiang family’s rice field seemed to have less grass and fewer pests.

It’s almost time to harvest the rice, and these days they’re about to release the water to dry the fields, drawing quite a few people’s attention to the Jiang family.

When Yang Shulin saw Jiang Hu releasing water to catch fish, he came over.

He didn’t beat around the bush and directly asked Jiang Hu about the rice field fish. Jiang Hu told him that the fish eat the insects on the rice plants and their waste acts as fertilizer.

He was half-skeptical, but upon closer inspection, indeed, the Jiang family’s rice was slightly better than others’.

Could this be because of the fish waste?

After hearing Jiang Hu say the rice field fish tasted better and that he was going to sell them in the city later, he was tempted too.

Yang Shulin ran all the way home with the fish. Just as he reached the door, he saw his wife sweeping the yard. She was startled to see the fish in his hand, but quickly realized.

”Is this fish raised in Jiang’s field?”

Yang Shulin rushed into the kitchen. ”Yes, Jiang Hu is so generous. I just watched for a bit and didn’t help much, yet he gave me such a big fish.”

He quickly placed it in a basin, scooped two ladles of water, and only breathed a sigh of relief after seeing the carp was still alive.

Because once a fish is dead, it’s not as fresh to eat.

Yang Shulin’s wife came in with the broom, ”This fish is really not small, so plump. Look at this fat, so thick.”

Yang Shulin nodded, ”Yeah, you see the scales are a little red, and this fish is especially strong. It almost fell out on the way.”

It’s plump and robust. Sometimes they could catch some to have a feast from the pond, but compared to the one Jiang Hu gave him, it was quite inferior.

”That’s true,” Yang Shulin’s wife nodded, ”the Jiang family is really something, whatever they grow holds a good harvest, whatever they raise turns out well.”

Look at their pigsty. At first, ten plus people built the pigsty, and quite a few people gossiped behind their backs about it being bigger than the living space for humans.

But look now, more than ten piglets, not one was lost, all living well and healthily.

One must know that Zhang Yuan’s wife, who has been raising pigs since her maiden days, with decades of experience, still loses one or two piglets a year.

As for the Jiang family, not even a single chick was ever lost!

Yang Shulin nodded in agreement, ”Wife, what do you think about us raising rice field fish next year? Anyway, it doesn’t require much capital. I can catch more small fish from the pond.”

There are quite a few ponds in the village, and almost every one has fish; crucian carp is the most common and easiest to catch, followed by grass carp and common carp.

Yang Shulin’s wife said, ”I think if the Jiang family really makes money from rice field fish, next year many will follow, so whether there are still enough fish in the ponds is uncertain.”

Yang Shulin chuckled, ”Don’t worry, there’s still the brother-in-law. Let him catch small fish for us from the lake, and then we’ll repay him with bigger ones!”

His wife rolled her eyes at him, ”You have it all figured out, asking me for what?”

Yang Shulin chuckled naively and then found a lid to cover the wooden basin.

”Jiang Hu said the rice field fish are good, we’ll try it at noon. I’ll go help now and ask if there’s anything particular about raising rice field fish.”

His wife pretended to shoo him off, ”Go on, go, I still need to sweep, stop getting in the way.”

As Yang Shulin walked out, he reminded, ”Wife, rest if you get tired, I can sweep the floor when I return.”

His wife directly scolded him to leave, but her face was beaming with a smile.
