Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 480: Chapter 300: Clever Little Hei

”We just came out as well, and since we have nothing to do, I had Wei take me around the area. Brother Jiang, you go ahead with your work, no need to worry about me here.”

Liu Hongcai was a few years older than Jiang Wei, so calling him ”little brother” wasn’t an exaggeration.

Jiang Hu squatted by the pond and washed his hands: ”I’m wrapping up here too, it’s getting late, and it’s about time to prepare food.”

Liu Hongcai nodded: ”Alright then, you go ahead, and I’ll have Wei show me around the village.”

His main reason for visiting today was to check on his son. After all, this visit to the provincial state was different from being back home. Just the travel time alone can be uncomfortable.

He wasn’t at ease without seeing things with his own eyes.

Aside from this, he also wanted to walk around the fields. Originally, he intended for Jiang Hu to take him, but now he felt it was just as fine to have Jiang Wei lead him around.

Jiang Hu didn’t think much of it and just nodded in agreement: ”Alright then, I’ll go slaughter a chicken first. Xiao Wei, take your Uncle Liu around.”

He wanted to clean up earlier, but the pig feed was a bit much, and Qi Xi couldn’t manage alone, so he went over to help.

The second wife was also in the yard with Aunt Yang, feeding the chickens and rabbits.

Just in time, with the outside work done, preparing dinner would still be manageable.

In summer, it gets dark late, and it was already close to the hour of the rooster. The sun was still shining brightly, but compared to noon, it was a much gentler sunlight.

Jiang Wei greeted Uncle Liu and then led Liu Hongcai down a small path, intending to show him the family’s rice fields.

Just as they reached the front yard, the main gate opened. It wasn’t anyone else but his second sister and the Liu ladies.

A moment ago, they were chatting in the side yard, and seeing it wasn’t so hot anymore, Xie Fuya suggested taking her mother-in-law and sister-in-law to the fields, saying it was a completely different experience from shopping.

So, as soon as she mentioned it, Liu Yajing was intrigued, leading to this scene.

”Let’s go together then. Aunt Qian and Uncle Liu seldom visit. I was just about to take Uncle Liu to see the family’s rice fields, which are almost ready for harvest.”

Jiang Wei confidently proposed the idea without the slightest hesitation.

Of course, being a seven or eight-year-old child, he didn’t need to particularly avoid any awkward situations. Besides, Liu Hongcai and Liu Qingfeng were with them.

Han Yan and Meng Tao had been sent off by Xie Fuya to help with dinner preparations, while Liu Qingfeng naturally accompanied his own wife.

”Then let’s all go together. We’ve eaten grain from the Jiang family for so many years and have never actually seen what it looks like.”

Liu Hongcai gestured for his wife to join, and they both followed Jiang Wei.

Though Jiang Wei was young and hadn’t done much farm work this year, he knew very well which fields belonged to his family.

As they walked, Jiang Wei introduced the fields, where corn and sorghum had been planted but were already harvested; and which plots had sweet potatoes, with sweet potato vines currently being dried, ready for feeding the pigs when winter came.

Passing some wild herbs, he would point out which were edible for humans and which were not but tender and favored by rabbits, chickens, ducks, and geese, etc.

Regarding the household chores, he seemed to know everything.

Not just Liu Hongcai and the others, even little Xue who accompanied them was surprised at how well informed this little brother was.

To Xiao Xue, these chores weren’t new; after all, before she worked at the embroidery workshop, she helped at home when things got busy.

But in her memory, Jiang Wei was often preoccupied with play. When did he become so detailed in knowing everything about the family’s affairs?

They saw the already cleared sorghum and corn fields, admired the thriving sweet potatoes, and then went to see the heavy rice grains.

The grains were full and weighed down the rice plants.

Walking amongst the fields, Liu Hongcai observed the swathes of rice paddies and felt that the rice grains seemed to be growing even better this year than previous years.

He thought, once back, he ought to visit other villages to see if it was because of favorable weather conditions this year or for some other reason.

With these thoughts, Liu Hongcai was determined to remember the current state of the rice paddies vividly.

It was still early, and the temperature was cool, perfect for labor, so there were quite a few people in the fields.

Some families were yet to harvest corn, or were busy with peanuts and mung beans, or clearing wild grass from the fields.

Seeing this, Liu Hongcai would ask a few questions, and after talking to several people, he confirmed that this year’s crops indeed grew well, and the already harvested sorghum and corn also had better yields than previous years.
