Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 475: Chapter 297: Visits and Interactions

Although Xie Fuya is also a wealthy family’s daughter, she has understood propriety and etiquette since childhood. She isn’t pretentious or fond of hypocrisy, and her parents have always taught her according to the standards of a household matriarch.

But this doesn’t mean she is inflexible. She clearly knows what should be said, what should be done, and what should be feigned ignorance of.

Even though she hasn’t interacted with them for long, from other people’s words, she knows that the Jiang family is one that doesn’t like to beat around the bush.

If they like something, they like it; if they don’t, they don’t.

This is why when she had an idea, she directly asked the second aunt about it.

After all, she is a woman too, so she can’t exactly ask Jiang Hu, even if it’s business; it’s just not appropriate.

Moreover, she noticed that in the Jiang family, it isn’t just Jiang Hu who makes the decisions. Things promised by the second aunt are equally valid.

This way of interaction made Xie Fuya a bit envious.

Whether in her husband’s family or her own, major family decisions always require the head’s consent, and the woman of the house cannot make decisions on her own.

To the Jiang family, who to sell those one thousand catties of grain to, or not to sell, is a big deal. Yet the second aunt agreed in one breath, without worries about any consequences.

Thinking about this, Xie Fuya couldn’t help but express her feelings: ”Auntie, Uncle Jiang treats you really well.”

The second aunt laughed heartily and said, ”Doesn’t your Qing Feng treat you nicely too? He even built a house in the countryside for you and comes to accompany you every day.”

Xie Fuya’s face turned slightly red. Being young, her skin was thin, and she got bashful when the second aunt said that.

Luckily, Han Yan came over with tea and snacks.

”Auntie, this is the green bean cake that Meng Tao made this morning. I forgot to bring it earlier, so please take it back and let everyone try it later.”

Some were placed on a plate with a few green and yellow pieces, while another box of food seemed meant for the second aunt to take back.

”How is this green bean cake made? How come there’s green in it?”

When cooked, mung beans need to be peeled, and the peeled mung beans are yellow, so the green bean cake made from them is naturally yellow too.

”This, ah, is because Meng Tao added a bit of green tea powder. The finely ground tea leaves are sifted through a fine cloth, then made with the mung beans.”

Xie Fuya took a piece for the second aunt to taste.

The second aunt didn’t decline, took a bite, and indeed, amidst the rich bean paste, there was a faint tea flavor.

”Truly delicious.” The second aunt praised generously.

Xie Fuya smiled and said, ”Mainly because the ingredients are good. This mung bean also comes from your family, too.”

After all, she had just eaten, so the second aunt only tasted one piece before putting it down.

”It’s getting late. You rest first, I’ll head back; Xiao Mi wants to go up the mountain, and if I don’t return, she might drag Zi Ang along again.”

”Alright,” Just as Xie Fuya was about to stand up, the second aunt pressed her down.

”What are you getting up for? It’s just a few steps, and you don’t need to see me out. Rest first, and join us for dinner at home with Qing Feng tonight. No need to be formal.”

After speaking, she decisively picked up the box Han Yan placed beside her and left without letting Han Yan see her out, walking back with large strides.

Han Yan supported the young mistress back to her room, sighing, ”The old master was right, dealing with the Jiang family is very straightforward and simple, no need to beat around the bush.”

Xie Fuya smiled and replied, ”You don’t understand, the more straightforward a family is, the more sincere you also need to be to build a connection. If you have any calculations or insincerity, they won’t bother with you again.”

That’s why when she has something to say or do, she speaks directly. The old master had already said before not to beat around the bush with the Jiang family.

Then Meng Tao pondered and said, ”That’s still better than dealing with the ladies in the city. One has to think everything through before speaking. It’s more relaxing when everyone just speaks their mind, right?”

Xie Fuya just smiled and didn’t say anything more.

However, Meng Tao was right. Her husband, after all, is the Liu family’s eldest son. If things go smoothly, he might enter politics in the future.

As a wife, Xie Fuya generally doesn’t refuse social invitations from surrounding ladies. If she can’t embellish her husband’s career, at least she shouldn’t hold him back and should maintain relationships within the household.

Even before marriage, her parents taught her these things. After marrying into the Liu family, the mother-in-law also spoke of these matters. But sometimes, it really does get tiring, especially after getting pregnant; she was not very enthusiastic, yet couldn’t show it.

Unlike now, where she eats when hungry, sleeps when tired, makes little clothes for the child in her belly when bored, and idly strolls around in the fields when free.

Without the daily rules and morning greetings, when her husband returns at night, they can have personal conversations, truly satisfying.

Of course, Xie Fuya also knows that these peaceful days won’t last long. Once the child is born and has completed the month, she ultimately has to go back.

But even if she goes back, coming here to stay for a few days every now and then should be okay. After all, it’s not far and only takes less than half an hour by carriage.

”Madam, rest for a while. I’ll be by the door, call if you need anything.”

Han Yan helped Xie Fuya onto the bed and was about to leave.

”It’s hot outside. Stay inside, place the ice by your side. My body can’t handle the cold right now.”

Han Yan nodded, brought over a bamboo lounge chair, and said, ”Alright, madam, please sleep first.”

Han Yan and Meng Tao were both maidservants who accompanied Xie Fuya into her marriage; they have been with her since she was young and even learned skills like making snacks and cooking from the Xie family.

Naturally, they wouldn’t be careless with the madam.

On the other side, when the second aunt returned with the snacks, Xiao Mi immediately spotted it, wrapped a few pieces in oil paper, and ran off, waving to her parents.

The second aunt shook her head helplessly, ”This child, in such hot weather, can’t stay still.”

Fortunately, as soon as Xiao Mi left, Xiao Hei caught up, so the second aunt wasn’t too worried.

”Let her be. You know Xiao Mi, when will she ever settle down?” Jiang Hu had resigned himself to it; his young daughter is naturally active.

As long as there was no danger, he was too lazy to stop her.

Plus, over these months, he had come to fully trust his daughter, especially her growing skills in hunting.

She could accurately hit rabbits and pheasants, who are quite fast. If it were a person slower than those animals, they wouldn’t be able to escape.

Xiao Mi, with a few green bean cakes, a bow, and a water pouch on her back, ran swiftly under the sun, passing by others’ homes but ignoring them.

There were many kids of her age in the village, but she only got along well with Xiao Cao.

When she met some for the first time, she had even shared beef pellets. But soon after, they openly and secretly asked her for more, accompanying it with offers to play.

She had plenty of beef pellets but wasn’t keen on using them to get someone to play with her. She wasn’t just a little brat.

Of all those children, only Xiao Cao clicked with her.

The oil paper parcel in Xiao Mi’s hand was a clear sign she was bringing something tasty, making others a little envious.

Ever since Xiao Cao befriended the Jiang family’s Xiao Mi, she had benefited quite a bit. Though Xiao Mi didn’t share her spoils every time she hunted, every couple of days, she would indeed bring something to share.

When Xiao Mi was away in the past months, some even teased Xiao Cao. But unexpectedly, Xiao Mi quickly returned and went to find Xiao Cao again.
