Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 494: Chapter 307: Yang Shulin

There’s no rush to release the water; you can’t harvest all the fish in the rice field at once.

Jiang Hu only released water from three acres of fields, yet they’ve already harvested over a thousand pounds of fish, filling two large tubs. Those tubs used for threshing during rice harvest, when lined with oilcloth and filled with water, turn into small fish ponds.

Yang Shulin truly came to help, just like he said he would. Not only did he help catch fish, but he also took several tubs of fish back home.

Most of the fish were slightly longer than chopsticks, while the smallest were carp.

Carp can breed naturally; it’s clear that during their time in the fields, they laid eggs, with the smallest being only two inches long.

The best way to eat these small carp is to coat them in flour and fry them directly, making them crispy and crunchy.

Jiang Hu specifically separated these small fish into two barrels. Frying small fish consumes a lot of rapeseed oil, which ordinary people can’t afford. But there are plenty of rich folks in the city.

After helping with the last tub of fish, Yang Shulin stretched and noticed Jiang Hu divided one of the barrels of small fish into three parts, somewhat puzzled.

”Brother Jiang, what are you doing? Isn’t it easier to transport them to the city if they stay in the barrel?”

Yang Shulin is a few years older than Jiang Hu, now quite familiar with him, so his speech is naturally casual.

”These aren’t for sale; this one is for our family, this one is for the Liu family, and this one I’ll ask if Qingfeng’s wife wants.”

”Oh, it’s getting late. Should we head to the city to sell the fish? Do you need my help?”

Jiang Hu specifically borrowed a bullock cart from the village, which is now parked in the yard, loaded with tubs full of fish.

The fish were put into the tubs after they were loaded onto the bullock cart, making it much more convenient.

It indeed isn’t early anymore, with all the delays, it’s almost noon.

Jiang Hu casually picked a few larger carp: ”Then sorry to trouble you, Brother Yang. I heard your wife is pregnant; take these home and make soup. Pan-fry them slightly in pork lard until both sides are golden, then add water to simmer. Once the aroma is out, sprinkle some salt, and it’s ready to drink. Both adults and kids love it.”

Yang Shulin’s family also has several children, originally intending to decline, but upon hearing that both adults and children like it, he stopped pretending to be courteous.

”Thanks, Brother Jiang. Wait a moment, I’ll go tell my wife and bring our family’s water buffalo over to help you transport them to the city.”

Yang Shulin’s family also has a cow, which comes in handy.

The fish are difficult to keep; if not careful, they could die. Yang Shulin knows Jiang Hu definitely won’t leave them for long.

Moreover, this is just from over three acres of water fields. With so many fish, his family has three or four acres of fields. Without a big pond, how could they raise more than two thousand pounds of fish?

He’s eager to tag along, wanting to see how much these rice field fish could sell for.

He’s not greedy for much; he just wants to see whether it’s profitable to decide whether to raise rice field fish next year.

With this mindset, Yang Shulin hurriedly went back to inform his parents and wife and then quickly fetched his family’s water buffalo back from the hill.

Before reaching Jiang’s house, he spotted Liu’s old grandpa, a guest at Jiang’s, saying something to Jiang Hu.

Regarding Liu’s grandpa staying at Jiang’s, everyone knew during a casual chat when building the pigsty. No one found it strange.

Everyone speculated that the old man wasn’t ordinary, confirmed when a small courtyard next door was rebuilt, and the Scholar was his grandson!

Thus, not only did people speculate more about the grandpa’s identity, but they also held Jiang’s family in higher regard.

A common wealthy household is quite different from one with a Scholar.

Yang Shulin slowed his pace, waiting until the old man finished speaking and left, only then approaching with the water buffalo.

”Brother Jiang, it’s getting late. Shall we go? We might still make it to the restaurant for lunch.”

Restaurants do the best business; with this many fish, selling to them is more worthwhile than retailing.

”I think the same. Liu Uncle recommended a couple of good restaurants; let’s check them out.”

The two worked together to harness Yang Shulin’s water buffalo with the cart, and Jiang Hu called out to the second wife in the house before heading out.

Just as the whip lashed, Xiaomi ran over from beside the house.

”Dad, wait for me. I’ll go with you.”

Xiaomi just removed her water boots, hadn’t had time to change clothes yet.

Having returned from the fields earlier, she suddenly remembered the numerous little river shrimps she collected in Nanyang Prefecture were in her space.
