Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 486: Chapter 303: Planning

On one side, Madam Liu was discussing profit-sharing with Xiaomi, while on the other, Liu Hongcai was also speaking to Jiang Hu about buying more land.

”Buy land? My family already has quite a bit of land.” Together, the fields are close to twenty mu.

This afternoon, I went with my second aunt to the fields to check on the rice paddies, and just circling our own paddies took more than half an hour.

During the busy farming season, our family can’t handle it all, and we almost always have to hire people to work.

Liu Hongcai shook his head: ”Brother, if you consider a family of your size, your land is indeed substantial, but even the smallest landlords in town have at least a hundred mu of good land.”

”Landlord?” Jiang Hu was a bit stunned; it seemed he had never considered this issue.

Liu Hongcai saw through him immediately and shook his head with a smile: ”Brother Jiang, you can’t continue like this.”

”Even though twenty mu is enough, letting your family have more than they can consume, and you can sell some part.”

”But just that isn’t enough, or one might say, it’s far from enough.”

Jiang Hu didn’t quite understand Liu Hongcai’s meaning, but he knew that Liu Hongcai wouldn’t talk about this for no reason.

”Please, Brother Liu, tell me more.”

Liu Hongcai came today mainly for this matter and naturally wasn’t sparing with his words.

”My son Ze’er has had health issues, so reaching his current state is already gratifying for his mother and me. If he could pass the scholar exam, it’d be an extra joy, so we don’t have additional demands of him.”

”But your Jiang Yu is different. While having tea with Yu’er’s mentor, I heard him praise Jiang Yu highly, saying he is extraordinarily gifted and has an excellent memory. If he studies diligently, reaching high positions shouldn’t be a problem.”

”Brother Jiang might not know, but I do. That mentor used to hold an official post in the Capital City, but being disillusioned by the court’s intrigues and lacking connections, he resigned and returned home.”

”Although the mentor is now just a scholar, compared to us, he is still quite knowledgeable. Many in the city are eager to have their children learn under him.”

”Since the mentor sees potential in Jiang Yu, if he imparts his knowledge fully, Jiang Yu is bound to achieve great things in the future, perhaps even joining the court.”

Liu Hongcai spoke at length, then paused to sip some chrysanthemum tea, moistening his throat and giving Jiang Hu time to digest what he had said.

The taste was slightly bitter, yet after drinking it, one felt quite comfortable. The greasy feeling from the banquet was completely washed away, even making the stomach feel much better.

The chrysanthemum tea was homemade; wild chrysanthemums were all over the mountains. Xiaomi knew her mother would make it every year, so as soon as she arrived in Xiangmu Village, she watered the wild chrysanthemums nearby with Spiritual Spring water, ensuring that the tea’s taste hadn’t changed.

Although Liu Hongcai didn’t mean to look down on the Jiang family, the reality was this: because of differing perspectives, their views on matters were completely different.

For Jiang’s family now, Jiang Yu being able to pass the scholar exam was already satisfactory. The family’s grain could feed them and even bring in some extra money, something many people envied.

But in Liu Hongcai’s view, that wasn’t enough.

If the Jiang family is content with their current situation, then Jiang Yu’s achievements will undoubtedly be limited.

Jiang Yu’s talent is excellent; one must know even my son Qingfeng didn’t receive such praise from the mentor back then.

Saying there’s no envy would be false, but children and grandchildren have their own blessings. Besides, with close ties between the Jiang and Liu families, mutual support in the future is also beneficial.

It’s precisely for this reason that Liu Hongcai personally made the trip, lending an experienced perspective to help plan for Jiang Yu.

After Jiang Hu digested Liu Hongcai’s words, he realized the information was that his eldest son is indeed capable and might even become an official!

However, after a moment of excitement, Jiang Hu calmed down. Brother Liu personally visiting wasn’t merely to say that his son is smart.

”Brother Liu, I have limited knowledge; if you have any thoughts, please feel free to share.”

Liu Hongcai smiled slightly, knowing Jiang Hu understood.

”Then I’ll say it directly. Whether entering the bureaucracy or engaging in business, connections are essential, and for that, one needs capital.”

”We won’t delve into the business aspect. Entering the bureaucracy, although the court offers a salary, relying solely on it could lead to a meager life, easily leading one astray into corruption.”

”Of course, this doesn’t mean you and your wife should be relied upon entirely to provide Jiang Yu with the needed silver coin.”
