Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 545: Chapter 113: Being merciful to the enemy is being cruel to oneself_3

At least, Arthur and his group didn’t probe deeper into this matter.

”This is not a matter of kindness or cruelty.”

Arthur stared fixedly at Marcus, speaking rapidly, ”They are no longer our enemies. After that guy Wanping fled, the remaining members of the Three Skulls Society, to put it bluntly, are all ours! Killing one or two now is fine. But if you kill everyone you see, that’s hundreds of Level 4 and above professionists...”

”Such a large number, wouldn’t Wen Yu hold you accountable?”

Marcus glanced at Arthur’s serious gaze, as well as the defensive posture of Wang Fucai and Yang Hong beside him. He remained silent for a moment before letting out a soft laugh.

”You’re right, it’s my oversight...”

”So, what’s the harm in sparing them?”

Having said that, Marcus pushed past Arthur and walked outside.

”Also, I must say, they might become your subordinates, but to me, they are still enemies!!!”

「The Eastern City Wall of the Yanjing Assembly Site.」

The unexpected cessation of artillery fire left the professionists guarding near the city wall somewhat puzzled. If they aren’t using artillery fire... are they planning to make them charge to their deaths? The casualties in that case would be unimaginable...

The next moment, all their doubts vanished into thin air.

From one direction of the Eastern City Wall, an area of emerald green spread rapidly like a cloud of smoke, quickly expanding along the wall.

Any Demon Fiend that got close to that touch of emerald green was instantly entangled by suddenly sprouting vines and turned into a mummified corpse.

Absorb, grow, spread...

The Almighty Demon Vine spread like a virus, extending almost 100 meters beyond the city wall. Nearly half the width of the Eastern City Wall was enveloped within its protective range.

”That’s enough, this is the limit. Ray, go inform the commander again: the areas covered by the Almighty Demon Vine do not require any additional defense assistance!”

”Understood.”

This time, Ray took out a communications device—the one he had just requested—and quickly issued a series of orders to the Eastern City Wall command post.

Looking at the vast number of Demon Fiends below being drained dry by the Almighty Demon Vine, and then at Wen Yu’s expression of enjoyment, Ray’s mouth twitched slightly.

”What do you think of the Demon Fiends?”

Upon hearing Ray’s inexplicable question, Wen Yu simply replied with two words.

”Enemies!”

”Did you know that these low-level Demon Fiends also have joy and sorrow, experience birth, aging, sickness, and death, and have family and friends...”

Hearing Ray’s baffling words, Wen Yu slowly turned his head. Seeing the reminiscent look in Ray’s eyes, he let out a light chuckle.

”Mercy towards the enemy is cruelty to oneself.”

”I don’t need to know what they have. I only need to know what they can offer me and what their identity is to me. That’s enough.”

Upon hearing Wen Yu’s response, Ray glanced at Wen Yu’s dazzling eyes and sighed lightly.

”Yes...”

”Perhaps I’ve overthought it...”

”So, last question: what does ’kindred’ mean to you?”

This time, it was Wen Yu who fell silent.

This is a profound question...

After a moment, Wen Yu answered decisively, ”What they mean to me doesn’t depend on me, but on them...”

”If they show me goodwill, I will respond in kind. But, if they harbor ill intentions towards me...”

”So what if I become a world-destroying Grand Demon?”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Ray laughed.

”You are the simplest person I’ve ever met!”
