Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 531: Chapter 105: Defending the Town_2

”I’m very satisfied.”

”As long as you are satisfied, sir, I’ll go back and report to Commander Lin. By the way, do you have any opinions on the house? The decor? Layout? Size? We can change any of those!”

A bald, middle-aged, paunchy man in a well-pressed suit, his face wreathed in smiles, asked Wen Yu obsequiously.

”They’re both fine. I’ll take them.”

Wen Yu waved his hand, claiming ownership of both properties. One would serve as a gathering point for his small team and the Independents Mutual Aid Society, and the other would be his future home in Eternal Sky City.

”In that case, I’ll bring the documents to you later, sir. Also, Commander Lin asked me to inform you that someone will come to escort you to the Yanjing Assembly Site in two days.”

Wen Yu nodded. He glanced around the manor’s grounds before saying casually, ”Please thank Commander Lin for me. And yes, bring my people here later so they can get to know the place.”

”Very well, sir.”

Wiping sweat from his forehead, the paunchy man respectfully withdrew.

After seeing the man off, Wen Yu leisurely surveyed the entire manor.

Gardens, a swimming pool, a training field—everything was provided. The signs of human modification were quite obvious. Originally, the buildings in Eternal Sky City all had the same uninspired design, which didn’t align with human aesthetics or the pursuit of pleasure.

Who wouldn’t want their home to be a bit larger and more beautiful?

After touring the entire manor and making a mental note of its various features, Wen Yu returned to the main building.

”That’s more or less the situation.”

In the spacious and bright living room, Wen Yu explained the current situation at the Yanjing Assembly Site and relayed Lin Haifeng’s request. Everyone agreed to go to the Yanjing Assembly Site. They decided to leave in two days. Of course, Nicole and Qin Shiyuan would remain here. After seeing the others off, Wen Yu settled comfortably onto a lounge chair in the garden and released Cyclops, Star, and Faceless.

”This is our territory now. Go on, have some fun.”

Wen Yu let the soul pets out for some fresh air. He narrowed his eyes, pondering various matters. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he quickly retrieved a communicator from his space ring and dialed Carmille’s number.

Wen Yu had almost forgotten about this woman...

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP...

The communicator emitted a few busy signals before Carmille’s voice came through.

”Hello, Wen Yu. You haven’t contacted me in such a long time; I was beginning to think you’d forgotten about me...”

Judging by her tone, Carmille seemed to be in a fairly good mood.

”Where are you now?”

”Still in Spain. I’ve been held up here and can’t get away for now. I suppose I’ll have to find you all a bit later...”

”Yes, well, I’m just letting you know that Las Vegas has been completely destroyed. We’re in Eternal Sky City now. If you want to find us, you can come directly to Yanjing. Also, if you run into any trouble, tell me. I’ll help if I can.”

”Oh, okay.”

After hanging up, Wen Yu quietly shook his head.

This woman, always bustling about with something. She was meant to be the third member to join the small team he’d formed, but she still hadn’t arrived.

However, judging by her apparent situation, her safety didn’t seem to be an issue...

Meanwhile, in Spain, Carmille ended her call with Wen Yu. She squinted, lost in thought.

She remained that way until she heard footsteps approaching from behind.

”Carmille, was that your team leader?”

The gentle voice, seeming to carry an unknown power, completely dispelled Carmille’s hesitation and unease.

”He’s not my team leader. How many times do I have to tell you? We just have a cooperative relationship, that’s all...”

Carmille turned, a helpless expression on her face, to see a beautiful, black-clad woman.

The beautiful woman chuckled, covering her mouth. She stared at Carmille with a strange intensity that sent a shiver down Carmille’s spine.

”Judging by that smile just now, it doesn’t seem like a simple ’team leader’ relationship...”

Carmille deftly changed the subject.

”What is it? Did you need me for something?”

”King Kong is awake and roaring to see you. And your Pegasus friend too. The two of them are making such a racket, they’re about to tear my home apart.”

Gazing at the gentle smile on the black-clad woman’s face, Carmille was silent for a moment before she said gratefully,

”Thank you, Spirit. If it weren’t for you, King Kong might have...”

Before Carmille could finish, Spirit gently pressed a finger to her lips.

”Don’t say such things. You know I despise all this talk of life and death.”

With that, Spirit gently took Carmille’s hand and turned, leading her towards the nearby forest.

An ethereal voice seemed to resonate from every blade of grass and every tree.

”Though our kinds are different, we are all children of Mother Earth... are we not...”

The layout of the manor was ingenious. It was clear Lin Haifeng—or rather, his subordinates—had put a great deal of thought into it.

The air circulation system in Eternal Sky City was excellent. Despite being at such a high altitude, there wasn’t the slightest sensation of oxygen deprivation.

Lying in the small garden, Wen Yu reflected on his past two days.

Cyclops loved to wreak havoc on the small plants in the garden. Star enjoyed lounging on the sofa watching ’Tom and Jerry.’ Victor preferred standing on the roof, keeping watch, though Wen Yu had to manage all their eating, drinking, and waste disposal. Aside from these quirks, everything else was perfect.

”WOOF, WOOF...”

”Star, screw you! I’ve found some good stuff, the uncensored kind, you know~~~”

”You disgusting dog!”

”MEOW, MEOW...”

”Perverted mutt! That’s why creatures like dogs shouldn’t even exist.”

”BARK BARK BARK!!!”

”MEOW MEOW MEOW!!!”

The cat-and-dog war was about to erupt. Despite Cyclops hunting down numerous Demon Fiends, the deterrent effect that divine beast species typically had on ordinary mutant beasts was becoming less and less noticeable with him.

The horrifying Great Feast. Wen Yu even suspected that this skill might be the most terrifying one he had ever witnessed.

It was foreseeable that Cyclops’s combat power and species innate talent would only continue to grow stronger. Before long, he would likely reach the level of a divine beast.

But by then, could Cyclops still truly be considered a dog?

Wen Yu knew the answer to this question, and so did Cyclops...

As for the cat-and-dog fights unfolding in the room, Wen Yu paid them no mind. In fact, he had spent most of the past few days resting on the lounge chair in the garden...

This was because Cyclops and Victor had already demolished the house...

The ruckus didn’t disturb Wen Yu’s contemplation of life.

Until, at a certain moment, the faint sound of footsteps cut through the chaos and reached Wen Yu’s ears.

”Alright, that’s enough! Prepare to move out!”

His sharp command halted Cyclops and Victor’s ”playtime.”

A shadow gleaming with black light darted onto the top of Wen Yu’s head, instantly claiming the high ground.

Immediately after, Victor sauntered over, striking a high and mighty pose as he landed gracefully on Wen Yu’s left shoulder with swift, cat-like steps.

A full three seconds later, the limping Cyclops finally emerged, grumbling and reluctant, allowing Wen Yu to scoop him up into his arms. An unwilling expression was plastered on Cyclops’s face.

The cat-dog fight—a decisive victory for the cat!

At least for now, Cyclops had no way of turning the tables...

Meanwhile, the distant footsteps grew steadily clearer.

”Sir, are we ready to depart?”

”Let’s go.”

Wen Yu signaled the soldier ahead to lead the way. He then took out his communicator and issued a Gather All command to Qin Tian and the others.

The others lived nearby, so by the time Wen Yu and the soldier leading the way reached the main gate of the manor, Qin Tian and his group of four were already waiting outside.

”We’ve prepared residences for all of you sirs downstairs, along with a large courtyard. The rights to their use have been completely transferred to you, so you are free to do with them as you please.”

The officer leading the way said this as he opened the car door for Wen Yu.
