Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 502: Chapter 88 Action Begins_2

Even Wen Yu himself did not know what kind of effect this skill would produce if it became uncontrollable...

His dark ability had incredible plasticity. Even though it might lack explosive power, when it came to endurance and its various strange ways of functioning, it was absolutely one of the top skills Wen Yu had ever seen.

However, every rose had its thorns. The various ways Wen Yu researched to use his dark abilities were not all perfect; some even had downsides that outweighed their benefits...

「...」

Setting aside his contemplation of the skill, Wen Yu looked at the pile of ash in front of him and sighed softly.

This direction was a key target of the Demon Fiends. The number of Demon Fiends here far exceeded that in other directions.

For the remaining fighters in the Red Stone Hotel, the Demon Fiends gathered here posed too great a danger, which prompted Wen Yu to clear out this demon army himself.

But...

Most of the blood energy from the Demon Fiends killed by the dark ripples just now was used by Wen Yu to recover his strength and nourish the ripples. However, a small portion was snagged by the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier. It could be said that Wen Yu’s actions had supplemented a considerable amount of energy for the barrier.

For the professionists and mutant beasts stationed at the Red Stone Hotel, Wen Yu’s actions were equivalent to quenching thirst with poison.

However, when one was on the verge of dying of thirst, one had to drink even a slow poison; at least it could extend one’s negligible life by a fraction.

Thinking of this, the darkness energy within Wen Yu roared once more!

”In that case, we need to hurry.”

「...」

Wen Yu’s darkness energy slowly seeped out of his body, forming one fine black thread after another around him.

Then, the black threads spread rapidly, extending to cover most of the Netherworld.

The dense black threads, like countless fine spider webs overlapping layer upon layer, filled the entire space!

The seemingly soft and thin black threads inherently held the corrosive and devouring properties of the dark ability. Although the Lethality of the threads might not be sufficient, as long as a black thread touched an object, it would provide feedback to Wen Yu.

This was the method Wen Yu had prepared for the Ancient Demon called Mara.

Invisibility isn’t complete transparency. Anything it’s supposed to touch, it will still touch. This is my crude way to crack invisibility!

And as for Secondary Space—in the Netherworld, no Secondary Space below the Esoteric Level could exist!

The next second, Wen Yu’s legs suddenly tensed, and he dashed aimlessly into the distance.

His crude method—a carpet search—began!

「...」

The entire Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier was shaped like a semicircular dome, resembling an overturned bowl.

Of course, there was also a protective barrier of the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier underground, but according to the information Wen Yu had received, Mara did not possess the ability to move through the earth.

He ran straight to the edge of the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier. When the Netherworld and the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier collided, Wen Yu immediately turned and began to run in a circular pattern, gradually shrinking the encirclement.

According to Wen Yu’s estimation, if Mara didn’t move, it would take him approximately ten minutes to complete a carpet search of the entire Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier.

If Mara moved—well, that time couldn’t be accurately calculated. It would depend on chance and coincidence!

Along the way, Wen Yu saw countless Demon Fiends entering the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier from the outside. At the same time, Demon Fiends already within the barrier launched desperate attacks at him!

However, the lack of Lethality of the black threads referred to its ineffectiveness against high-Level Demon Fiends. If my carefully designed skills, even those not primarily for Lethality, couldn’t kill some lowly Level 1 or Level 2 Demon Fiends, then what was the point of all that brainstorming?

Level 1 Demon Fiends hit by the black threads were instantly killed as their Life force was extracted, while Level 2 Demon Fiends could only withstand it for a few seconds. As for the higher-Level Demon Fiends—they were the backbone, equally intelligent and possessing a certain degree of battle autonomy. The moment they saw Wen Yu, they had long since scattered.

This, at least, saved Wen Yu some trouble...

「...」

Just as Wen Yu was sprinting along his pre-planned track, the Red Stone Hotel defenders, who had long since established their defensive formation, were also met by an assault from the Demon Fiends!

「...」

The moment the Pitch-dark World completely dissipated, all the Demon Fiends surrounding its periphery erupted into a tumult!

In fact, if not for the Control and Suppression of high-level Demon Fiends, these Low-grade demonic creatures would very likely have paid no heed to what the Pitch-dark World was or its dangers. They would only follow their instincts, furiously tearing at any living beings before them!

And when the Pitch-dark World completely vanished, their recently suppressed instincts were immediately unleashed, replaced by a single, overwhelming urge: Kill!

For these low-grade cannon fodder, this was perhaps the simplest, easiest-to-understand command.

Hence, the scene, which had fallen into tranquility due to the Pitch-dark World’s presence, erupted with activity once more!

「...」

The surge of the Demon Fiend army was not beyond Claus’s expectations.

Gazing at the Soot Skin Demon Fiends, their varied forms resembling a black tide, Claus didn’t feel the same anxiety as during the last wave of attacks. He understood that the current task was very simple: hold out for a while and wait for Wen Yu to resolve all the problems!

Taking a deep breath, Claus exerted all his strength, loudly issuing commands!

”Ignite the gasoline!”

With Claus’s command, fires ignited in nearly ten distant spots—these were the fire Attribute skills of professionists.

In the next moment, a massive conflagration surged skyward, and lines of flame instantly enveloped the entire perimeter of the Red Stone Hotel.

The temperature of the external flame when gasoline burns is about 800 degrees. For Peak Level 2 and above professionists, this temperature posed almost no Lethality. However, the Flame Defenseline was primarily aimed at the Demon Tribe’s massive numbers of Level 1 Demon Monsters.

The raging flames burned fiercely. Sure enough, the Low-grade demonic creatures caught within the flames’ lethal range, upon seeing this ”force of nature” before them, found their fear of fire instantly overcoming their bloodthirsty instincts, causing them to falter momentarily.

As the Low-grade demonic creatures charging at the front faltered, a chain reaction was immediately triggered. The Demon Fiends in the rear, either too far from the flames or simply unafraid of such things, continued to charge forward relentlessly. A stampede ensued.

Looking at the large number of Low-grade demonic creatures trampled to death in an instant, or the Low-grade Demon Monsters swept into the ring of fire, set ablaze, and wailing loudly, Claus breathed a sigh of relief.

In Cathay, an old saying goes: ”The first charge is full of vigor; the second sees it wane; the third brings exhaustion.”

The purpose of the flames was never Lethality, but to delay the momentum of the Demon Monsters’ first charge.

Now, the gasoline had essentially served its purpose. The next moment, Claus shouted loudly once more.

”Ranged corps! Unleash your skills! Melee corps, prepare for close combat!”

The moment the commands were given, a multitude of assorted skills rained down upon the charging Demon Fiends, instantly wiping out a large swath of them.

At the same time, the Demon Fiend army promptly responded!

Even more ranged attack skills, greater in number than those of the professionists, bloomed from within the Demon Group like fireworks, shooting towards the ranged professionists on the rooftop.

Seeing this, Claus’s eyes brightened.

”Qin Tian, Arthur, did you mark their positions just now? I need your help to eliminate the high-Level Demon Fiends hidden among them!”

Qin Tian and Arthur, standing behind Claus, nodded, jumped straight down from the roof, and charged towards the Demon Group.

For a time, due to having the initiative and geographical advantages, the professionists and mutant beasts led by Claus managed to put up a good fight against the Demon Fiends.

Unfortunately, this situation was not destined to last long.

Not even three minutes after the Pitch-dark World withdrew, a covert and unknown Energy Fluctuation swept across the entire battlefield.

The next moment, the meat cocoon above the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier began to bulge and wriggle.
