Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 508: Chapter 92 Arthur_2

”BOOM!”

A violent explosion rang out from not far away.

Then, a nearly ten-meter-tall yellow shadow crashed into the building opposite like a cannonball.

At the sight of this, cold sweat dripped from Claus’s brow.

This figure, Claus remembered—it was a Level 4 mutant lion.

In the defense battle of the Red Stone Hotel, it had performed outstandingly, a true ”right-hand man” to Claus!

However, its Level 4 strength was still far too weak here.

Deafening footsteps thundered from the distance. Then, a figure less than two meters tall and clad in Iron Armor instantly arrived where the lion had fallen. Looking at the giant lion lying motionless on the ground not far away, Duplicant Arthur raised his Heavy Sword and brought it down on the lion’s head!

”BANG...”

Like a watermelon, the lion’s head burst on the spot. The fake Arthur didn’t stop, quickly looking for his next prey.

None of the thirty-four duplicants had met their match on this battlefield!

Claus kept his eyes tightly shut, his body trembling as he listened to the endless screams of terror piercing his ears.

His fists clenched tight... but he couldn’t do a thing... A sense of helplessness rapidly spread from the depths of his heart throughout his body.

Claus desperately wanted to burst out of this miserable shelter, gamble everything, and attack the duplicants outside.

But he couldn’t control his own limbs.

He was scared... Even though he knew that in this messed-up world, nobody could completely control their own destiny, and nobody could guarantee they would never die. However... even one more second of life... that would be a win, right?

Remembering his previous boast about ”protecting Las Vegas,” and then looking at himself now, cowering like a maggot in the shelter, listening to the horrifying massacre outside, Claus gave a self-deprecating laugh.

So, when death drew near, I would be this pathetic... It turns out, this world... has no heroes at all... All ideals and goals are torn to shreds in the face of reality!

The screams in his ears slowly died down.

This didn’t mean the thirty-four duplicants had given up their slaughter; it only meant that the large, congregated targets had been completely wiped out.

All that remained were the clever, elusive survivors.

Perhaps sensing a slight improvement in the situation, Claus slowly removed his right hand from the mouth of the professionist beside him. He quickly took a bottle of healing potion from his space ring.

Just moments ago, an intensely hot Energy Wave had struck the lower body of this professionist. The extreme heat had vaporized his lower half and simultaneously cauterized the wound, preventing him from bleeding to death.

”GULP GULP,” the sound echoed in the small space.

Seeing the professionist’s complexion improve slightly, Claus gently patted his shoulder.

”Don’t worry, Dan... You’re safe now...”

A smile uglier than tears appeared on Dan’s face.

”I’m not important, but I’m scared... My daughter is still in the basement...”

Dan’s words made Claus recall the image of a delicate, doll-like little girl.

He managed to offer some comfort, ”Don’t worry...”

”BANG!”

Claus’s words were interrupted by a giant sword plunging from the sky!

Instantly, the giant sword pierced the concrete slab above Claus and Dan, impaling Dan beside Claus.

The immense force tore Dan’s body to pieces. Blood, flesh, and fragments of internal organs splattered onto Claus’s stunned face.

The next second, the blood-soaked giant sword was slowly withdrawn...

Blood streamed down the blade onto the ground. Dan’s head, eyes wide as if unable to rest in peace, stared fixedly at Claus.

The anticipated second attack didn’t come...

”STOMP...”

”STOMP...”

”STOMP...”

The heavy footsteps gradually faded into the distance.

Claus, hiding in the gory pit, stared blankly at the scene. After a long moment, he clamped his hands over his mouth, tears streaming down his face...

”I... I survived...”

The scene Dan had feared, the Red Stone Hotel basement being breached, didn’t happen.

To be precise, it hadn’t happened yet.

All fifty-eight duplicants flawlessly executed Mara’s battle plan.

Thirty-four were tasked with slaughtering the ”irrelevant” enemies in the northern defense zone and had temporarily not entered the Red Stone Hotel.

Seventeen were charged with forcefully eliminating the Faceless.

Three Qin Tian duplicants were to tie down Qin Tian himself.

And three Arthur duplicants and one Qin Tian duplicant were the key to the plan’s execution!

Mara still leaned against the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier, eyes narrowed, continuously sensing the dynamics within the barrier’s range.

”Hmm... Half the energy in the core remains. The northern war zone’s defensive line has been completely breached. The battle in the east should conclude before Sequence Number 2 emerges... Tsk tsk... A soul pet is going to die. I truly wonder what kind of furious expression Sequence Number 2 will wear after enduring a round of Soul Strikes the moment it appears... The Bone Sword Man in the west has also been trapped... Now, we just wait for the results from the south.”

Thinking this, a sadistic smile touched Mara’s lips.

”The effect of the next act depends entirely on the Knight’s performance...”

”Don’t disappoint me...”

”CLANG~~”

The piercing sound of clashing steel echoed in the distance. Arthur barely managed to block the incoming giant sword with his own, only to be kicked squarely in the chest by two massive feet from other directions.

The sensation of soaring through the air came again. This time, however, a Qin Tian duplicant standing tens of meters away decisively followed up with another attack.

The Power that Breaks Space instantly struck Arthur’s body, sending the already airborne ”ball” flying even farther.

”BOOM!”

The sound of a wall shattering rang out.

This time, it might be Arthur’s last experience of being sent flying.

Because when Arthur got up, he suddenly realized he was now in the first-floor lobby of the Red Stone Hotel.

Outside, the three Arthur duplicants and one Qin Tian duplicant followed him in through the hole Arthur had made in the wall. They paused briefly, as if contemplating or searching for something.

The next second, the four duplicants completely ignored Arthur, who was within arm’s reach, and instead charged furiously in another direction!

Seeing this, Arthur’s eyes practically bulged with uncontrollable rage.

Because that direction was precisely towards the entrance of the Red Stone Hotel’s basement.

Strictly speaking, Arthur had no connection to the people in the Red Stone Hotel’s basement.

This meant that even if the four duplicants before him charged into the basement and began a bloody, cruel massacre, it would have nothing to do with him.

Instead, Arthur could use this time to leave the battlefield directly. Whether supporting elsewhere or hiding somewhere until Wen Yu dealt with the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier, these would all be better choices.

But... some people always do foolish things at critical moments.

A Knight upholds many principles and standards. Every qualified Knight is necessarily a representative of justice and loyalty.

However, in the materialistic era before the apocalypse, creatures like Knights were rare. Unfortunately, Arthur himself was not a standard Knight like William once was.

Before the apocalypse, Arthur was merely an insignificant thug on the Streets of England.

Only after receiving the Soul-Armored in the apocalypse did he dress like a Knight—what could Arthur do? That was just how the Soul-Armored looked.

So, all that talk about justice and loyalty has nothing to do with me! However, I have my own principles and bottom lines.

First, I must handle my own affairs, solve my own problems, and end my own battles—win or lose. At least until a victor is decided, I shouldn’t burden others.

Second, a promise made must be kept. I promised Wen Yu I’d help defend the Red Stone Hotel. So, as long as I’m able, I shouldn’t choose to give up.

Lastly, and most importantly, a man should charge to the front. Those in the basement are all women and children. To let women and children use their lives to block enemies I should be responsible for, while I run far away...

Sorry... I may not be a Knight, but I’m still a man!

So, the moment he saw the four duplicants begin to accelerate, Arthur’s mind cleared of all other thoughts. Only one idea filled his heart...

Charge forward and stop them!
