Chapter 425: Chapter 94: Poisoning

Chen Wen’s confidence came from the hippo.

Having a hippo nearby, especially in the water.

As long as they wanted to leave, the elephant could never catch up.

The water provides resistance.

In some weight loss courses aimed at heavier people, there is water running included.

In the water, it can both reduce running injuries on the knees and increase resistance, adding to the exercise’s consumption.

The elephant is very large.

The resistance it faces in the water is even greater, making it almost impossible to catch the hippo.

After a simple discussion, Abel finally agreed to this plan.

However, he still cautioned Chen Wen: ”Safety first, and if it comes to a critical moment, you can use the hippo to tangle with the elephant to buy you time.”

Chen Wen ignored this comment, just saying, ”Don’t worry.”

...

The night passed, and daylight came again.

When Chen Wen sat up from the shelter, the hunt for the elephant was declared begun!

The hippo had returned to the Kuanduo River.

It had to keep an eye on the elephant, observing its activities.

Leopard the Second was on alert near the camp, preventing the elephant from sneaking in.

Leopard had a different task.

Under Chen Wen’s guidance, it went into the forest to look for the food preferred by elephants.

Meanwhile, Chen Wen started searching for cassava and belladonna.

Making poison.

Cassava was easy to find.

Chen Wen went to the place he had previously found cassava, where there was plenty, and he collected a large amount of cassava roots and leaves effortlessly.

These items were brought back to the camp by him.

On returning, Leopard the Second had already come back.

It laid down the plants it held in its mouth and said, ”This is what I found, plants with signs of forced removal.”

Based on the feeding habits of elephants.

Chen Wen deduced that when elephants feed, they use their trunks to twist and tear down branches, leaving some twisted signs on them.

Thus, he mimicked the elephant’s long trunk with his arm, twisting down branches from the tree and letting Leopard search based on the twisting signs.

The branches and leaves in the camp were what Leopard had gathered.

Chen Wen roughly checked them over; they were all common branches and leaves.

Among them, the leaves of acacia trees were the most abundant.

After careful consideration, Chen Wen decided to use acacia leaves for poisoning.

He collected the acacia leaves and began to add toxins to them.

Chen Wen’s method of poisoning was simple.

It was mixing the toxic cassava leaves with acacia leaves, and also mixing the roots and branches.

Additionally, he placed whole cassavas in there as well.

After he finished preparing.

Chen Wen took the first batch of poisoned food to the riverside, placing it where the elephants drink under the hippo’s guidance.

”Stay here and watch. If the elephant comes, don’t do anything rash, and if it doesn’t notice the food, I’ll teach you a method.”

Chen Wen taught the hippo a strategy of feigning retreat to capture.

”Just pretend you’re going to snatch the food. Once it shows a sign of expulsion, immediately retreat, got it?”

The hippo nodded.

Its gradually increasing intelligence allowed it to understand some complex plans now.

After giving instructions to the hippo, Chen Wen returned once again.

He began looking for belladonna, planning to use it for further poisoning.

Belladonna was in the valley where Chen Wen had previously found it.

Returning to the valley, Chen Wen saw large amounts of already withered belladonna berries.

This time, Chen Wen did not collect the berries, but instead uprooted the belladonna, collecting the roots, stems, and leaves altogether.

After bringing these back to the shelter.

Chen Wen went out to gather a large amount of acacia branches and leaves and mixed them.

Then he took this poisoned food to the riverside to conduct poisoning.

The other thing that needed consideration was the chevaux-de-frise and spear trap.

Due to the riverbank’s particular terrain, Chen Wen found the mud was too overwhelming, so he gave up on setting traps there.

However, he crushed some belladonna berries and smeared them on the spears.

Using the spears to wound the elephant while administering poison was better than nothing.

Chen Wen felt he had made all the necessary preparations.

He returned to the camp once more, gathering the two leopards.

Before leaving, he rubbed the side-necked turtle’s shell: ”Turtle, you can’t join this battle, but lend me some of your luck, will you?”

After giving himself a luck buff, Chen Wen strode towards the riverbank.

Initiating the hell-level quest—Hunt the African Elephant!

...

At the riverbank.

The hippo had been soaking in the water for a long time.

But the elephant hadn’t appeared.

This made the hippo a bit restless.

Even though Chen Wen had confirmed through footprints and elephant dung that this was indeed the elephant’s drinking spot.

At this moment, the hippo also worried whether the elephant might not come here anymore.

But just when the hippo was worried.

Chen Wen came.

Seeing the hippo’s concern, Chen Wen signaled it to remain calm.

He said, ”Don’t worry, elephants eat a lot. They’ll consume several hundred kilograms of food in a day, and the whole feeding process, added up intermittently, takes about ten hours. They’ll probably come in the afternoon.”

”I’ll take the leopard brothers into the forest for an ambush, and you stay here and remember the instructions I gave you.”

The hippo nodded and mumbled, ”Don’t worry!”

...

As Chen Wen and the leopard brothers entered the forest for an ambush.

The crew gradually became tense as well.

Because just as seen through the drone’s lens, the African elephant was slowly approaching from the nearby jungle!

”Humans, I can smell it!”

Leopard the Second whispered, ”The smell of that elephant, very clear, its scent is being carried by the wind!”

Is it coming?

Chen Wen took a deep breath, ready and alert.

...

Back on the hippo’s side.

Accompanied by a series of heavy footsteps, it was awakened with a start.

The hippo looked towards the jungle and saw a massive African elephant squeezing past the trees, slowly walking.

It headed straight to the Kuanduo River, intending to drink.

But just as the African elephant arrived at the riverside, a pile of food beside it caught its attention.

The African elephant looked at the large heap of food, somewhat surprised.

It extended its trunk, rolling up the topmost leaves, but didn’t put it into its mouth.

Instead, it lifted up the rolled branch and leaves, as if inspecting them carefully.

This scene made Chen Wen nervous.

If this African elephant discovered the poisonous cassava and belladonna within and decided not to eat.

Then his plan would be in vain!

The African elephant has a keen sense of smell, and whether this camouflage could withstand its sense of smell was still uncertain.

Just as Chen Wen was getting anxious.

The hippo, which had been observing in the water, made a move.

According to Chen Wen’s instructions, the hippo stood up from the water.

The sudden movement caught the African elephant’s attention, causing it to glance over and emit a warning hiss.

But the hippo was undeterred.

With a splash of water, it rushed straight over, acting as if it was going to snatch the food.

The African elephant was immediately enraged.

It let out a deafening cry, flapping its ears and charging at the hippo.

And the hippo had already turned its body, fleeing towards the deep waters.

The water churned by the two giants was like boiling, resounding with splashes.

Chen Wen watched the hippo escape effortlessly and breathed a sigh of relief.

The hippo’s speed in the water was respectable, making it difficult for the African elephant to catch up.

As the hippo swam into the deep water, the African elephant had no desire to continue chasing.

It emitted a series of warning calls, slowly walking up the riverbank.

And this time, after briefly checking the food, it used its long trunk to roll up the food and brought it to its mouth.
