Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 403: Chapter 72: Rescuing Feng Zhong

In the forest.

As Chen Wen and the hippo gradually approached, Leopard the First also began to sense something was wrong.

It let out a low growl to alert its brother.

After experiencing pain, Leopard the Second could barely move.

As always, the injury wasn’t life-threatening, but it really hurt!

It limped a few steps and began sniffing the air.

The hippo’s scent was quite strong.

As the hippo entered this part of the forest, both leopards caught its scent.

Faced with a hippo, even lions would avoid it, let alone leopards.

The leopard brothers immediately chickened out.

However, not being sure if the hippo was targeting them, the leopard brothers didn’t flee immediately.

Instead, they both climbed up into the trees.

The plan was to wait until the hippo passed by and then come down.

But Leopard the First was a bit sullen while waiting.

Along with the hippo’s scent, there was another familiar smell.

What was it?

...

In the forest.

Besides the trees, there were also shrubs.

Chen Wen gently stabbed the tip of his long spear into a shrub and violently flicked it open.

This shrub was the intersection of bloody threads.

But to Chen Wen’s surprise, there was nothing in the shrubs.

He carefully checked the source of the bloody threads.

”This is likely some animal’s blood that got smeared, maybe from some sort of animal?”

Chen Wen looked at the blade in his hand and tossed it aside.

He continued to feel the bloody threads in the air.

These threads spread towards the northeast, whereas Chen Wen and the hippo had entered the forest from the southwest.

And Chen Wen’s shelter was to the southeast.

He thought for a moment and decided to take the hippo over to check the shelter first.

Chen Wen was worried that something might have happened to his shelter.

Thus, accompanied by the hippo, he slowly headed towards the shelter.

...

At Chen Wen’s shelter.

Feng Zhong felt his head was heavy.

He wanted to rest a bit while the leopards hadn’t arrived, but Leopard the Second had damaged the horse fence, opening up a path.

This made him unable to sleep soundly.

Feng Zhong could only lean against the wall, nodding off with his head down.

But just as he was half-asleep, a series of heavy footsteps approached.

Feng Zhong immediately snapped awake.

He hurriedly grabbed his long spear and looked around.

Something was wrong with these footsteps!

The leopards definitely didn’t weigh this much!

Could there be new animals approaching?

Feng Zhong shivered, as fear began to spread within him.

...

Outside.

Chen Wen looked at the clearing around his shelter and couldn’t help but frown.

The bloody smell here was faint, yet quite pervasive!

Could there be predators hunting near my shelter?

Or did an injured animal pass by?

This is a lot of blood!

Chen Wen thought, patting the hippo’s body, and gently advised, ”Be careful.”

The hippo snorted and continued forward.

Using its massive body as Chen Wen’s shield, it walked ahead.

The man and the hippo moved in sync, advancing closer to the shelter.

This time, Chen Wen was even more surprised.

”What’s this... Who used my javelin? And why is it burned?”

Chen Wen said in bewilderment.

The appearance of the javelin, along with burn marks, indicated that it couldn’t have been wild animals.

Chen Wen first thought of other survivors.

But even if they were other survivors, there’s no reason they would burn a javelin, right?

Even if they burned the shelter?

Looking at his intact shelter and the silhouette inside... Hold on!

People!

Chen Wen immediately pointed his long spear upward and yelled, ”Who’s in my shelter? Come out!”

Hearing the familiar voice, Feng Zhong shuddered.

He hurriedly waved and stuck out his head, saying in Chinese, ”Is it Chen Wen? It’s me! Feng Zhong!”

Upon hearing Feng Zhong’s voice, Chen Wen was taken aback.

He led the hippo out of the hiding spot and looked at Feng Zhong.

And in Feng Zhong’s vision.

He only saw a massive hippo emerge from the forest, and to his bewildered gaze, Chen Wen seemingly appeared out of nowhere, standing behind the hippo.

”Feng Zhong? How did you end up here? Are you injured? Also, what happened to this place? Why does it look like there was a big fight?”

Chen Wen asked in surprise.

Hearing this, tears almost fell from Feng Zhong’s eyes.

I also want to know why I’m here!

Feng Zhong paused for a moment, his gaze never leaving the hippo.

He felt like his own matters seemed less important compared to this hippo.

Feng Zhong asked, ”Let’s talk about me later, about this hippo...”

”Oh.”

Chen Wen slapped his forehead and patted the hippo’s broad body.

The sight made Feng Zhong’s heart skip a beat.

”This is my friend. You should’ve received a notice, right? Restricting my use of beast taming for PvP?”

Upon hearing this, Feng Zhong slapped his thigh.

”Damn! So that’s it! I was wondering about the sudden restriction, turns out you tamed a hippo!?”

”Oh my gosh!”

Feng Zhong felt his worldview had been shattered.

Aside from hippos in zoos, this was the first time he heard of anyone befriending a hippo in the wild.

With Chen Wen’s explanation and the fact that the hippo really wasn’t aggressive,

Feng Zhong jumped down from the tree.

Upon landing, Feng Zhong’s legs went weak, and he took a tumble.

Chen Wen quickly asked, ”Are you okay?”

”I’m fine, I’m fine.”

Feng Zhong replied awkwardly, ”I came here not thinking about stable survival, but intending to join up with you and eliminate others.”

Chen Wen nodded, as this was their prior agreement.

But clearly, Feng Zhong hadn’t finished speaking.

He continued to listen to Feng Zhong’s tale.

”Then, I came and really went through hardships!”

Feng Zhong exclaimed with emotion, ”I arrived the day before yesterday, you weren’t here at the time. Later, I found out you went to eliminate Yoshikawa Feng, so I decided to wait for your return. But I never expected!”

Feng Zhong’s nose twitched, feeling wronged, ”Just last night, I was sleeping soundly, and suddenly I was attacked by two leopards!”

”Totally without warning, and completely no room for negotiation, they just went all out on me!”

Feng Zhong rolled up his sleeves, revealing the scars on his arm.

Seeing them, Chen Wen thought, Goodness!

Definitely leopard scratches!

There were three marks in total, one short and two long, with the longest nearing twenty centimeters!

”Luckily, they weren’t deep, and your shelter’s defense measures were comprehensive, or I would’ve withdrawn already!”

Feng Zhong said, ”Also, just now, I could still hear the two leopards moving nearby, but now it’s quiet.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen said, ”They might’ve smelled the hippo, these wild beasts have sharp noses.”

”Well, you rest for a bit, I’ll take the hippo for a look around, and come support me if there’s any issue.”

Chen Wen reassured Feng Zhong, intending to locate the leopards first.

Feng Zhong quickly shared all he knew about the two leopards with Chen Wen, including their physical traits.

The more Chen Wen listened, the more wrong it sounded.

After Feng Zhong finished speaking, he slapped his thigh.

Goodness!

Aren’t these leopards the ones he drove away before!

At that time, this guy even left a harsh word, saying he would bring his brother for revenge.

Chen Wen had taken it as rhetoric, considering how far apart leopard territories generally were.

He hadn’t taken it seriously.

But they really came?

And so quickly?

Tsk!

Chen Wen felt more alert inside.

Seems like these two leopards have quite a strong sense of revenge, even impaled by my wild horse fence, yet they still won’t leave!

Alright, let’s let the hippo test the waters!

Chen Wen looked back at the hippo, its robust body seemed to say only one thing.

Steadfast happiness!
