Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 406: Chapter 75: Temporary Cooperation

As Chen Wen left, the atmosphere suddenly turned awkward.

The hippopotamus grunted and said, ”I’m heading to the riverbank first, are you coming with me?”

Leopard the Second thought for a moment, realized there wasn’t really anywhere else to go at the moment, and simply followed along.

The hippopotamus led the leopard brothers to the riverbank.

Meanwhile, Chen Wen picked up his first-person camera and recording equipment in the forest.

Just now, when he was chasing after, considering this battle required cooperation with the hippopotamus, and to avoid overly exposing his abilities in front of the camera.

He deliberately left those things behind.

”I’m fine, I’m fine, the leopards have been driven away.”

Chen Wen spoke to the camera to reassure the production team.

At the same time, he hid the matter about the leopards.

After all, claiming they were tamed already is a bit fast.

On the production team’s end, the originally tense Abel and the others all breathed a sigh of relief.

It’s fine as long as it’s okay.

At this moment, it seemed like something crossed Chen Wen’s mind.

He looked towards his shelter with a puzzled expression and muttered softly.

Where’s Feng Zhong?

He said he would come to support if he heard anything, but he didn’t show up.

Although the result was good, with him not coming, I could publicly tame special animals.

But the process made Chen Wen a bit wary.

This guy is indeed, as Hua Yun said, very selfish.

Fine, forget about him, I’ll go back and take a look, if we can cooperate, we will, if not, then let’s go our separate ways.

...

After returning to the camp.

Feng Zhong hurriedly came up, looking enthusiastic: ”How’s the situation? What about the hippo? You’re alright, right?”

Chen Wen faked a smile and nodded: ”I’m fine, the leopards have been driven away. As for the hippo, its skin can’t withstand direct sunlight; it’s already back in the river soaking.”

Hearing this, Feng Zhong finally relaxed.

He said, ”That’s good, we really owe it to you this time!”

Chen Wen kept silent.

Both of them went quiet for a while, not knowing what would be appropriate to say.

After about a minute or so of silence, Feng Zhong said, ”You should rest for a bit, I’ll go fetch some water.”

”No, I’ll go.”

Chen Wen stopped him: ”You clear out the shelter, including these fallen leaves and dead branches, also tidy up the treehouse and barriers, don’t leave them scattered like this.”

Feng Zhong nodded.

Having something to do is good, at least it’s not awkward.

Chen Wen then stood up, planning to fetch water.

...

When Chen Wen arrived by the Kuanduo River.

He saw the hippopotamus bathing in the river near the reeds, but the leopard brothers were nowhere to be seen.

Chen Wen was a bit surprised.

And as he approached, the hippopotamus swiftly emerged from the water.

It reported the situation to Chen Wen: ”They went to that forest over there, said they’re not used to coming out during the day.”

Chen Wen glanced at the distant forest and nodded slightly.

The forest was on the other side of the river, about a kilometer away.

”You’ve had a tough time, take a good rest these couple of days.”

Chen Wen said, patting the hippopotamus on the shoulder.

The hippopotamus really worked hard these days.

Following me to take down Yoshikawa Feng and fighting the leopards were extremely exhausting tasks.

And it also got injured.

Chen Wen cast a {Animal Doctor} blessing, speeding up its recovery.

The hippopotamus hummed, feeling very comfortable.

After the hippopotamus submerged again, Chen Wen used a pot to fetch some water.

He started contemplating the next plan.

First, he needed to clarify things with Feng Zhong.

To see if Feng Zhong was able to cooperate.

If they could cooperate, they would head west along Kuanduo River with Feng Zhong and the leopards to eliminate others.

If not, they would part ways.

Chen Wen planned to move his place, taking his gear and food to reside where Yoshikawa Feng was.

Moreover, there was still a whole antelope carcass stored over there.

In the short term, Chen Wen wasn’t worried about the meat being taken or discovered by other animals.

After all, he had personally hidden the meat there, making it hard to find.

Additionally, he needed to find an appropriate opportunity to officially introduce the leopards.

Returning to the camp with water, he set it to boil.

Chen Wen sat by the campfire, waiting for Feng Zhong to finish up.

Under Feng Zhong’s efforts, the camp looked entirely renewed.

Sitting by the campfire, Feng Zhong opened up the conversation: ”Don’t be fooled by the size of the camp, it’s no small task to organize all of this. By the way, do you have any plans moving forward?”

”I do have some, but are there any other survivors around us now?”

Chen Wen didn’t answer directly but instead asked Feng Zhong.

Feng Zhong thought for a moment and said: ”Brad and Yoshikawa Feng have been eliminated, so the neighbors on both your sides are gone. On my end, Ivan passed through, heading west to find Vanessa.”

”If Ivan has already met up with Vanessa, then the closest group to us should be on the west side, separated by two survival zones from you. Given Jamie’s props, if he’s not eliminated, he must have found Kaelian.”

A bit far.

Chen Wen pondered, rubbing his chin.

”Going to eliminate them now?”

Feng Zhong asked.

Chen Wen shook his head: ”Too far, can’t make it on foot, it’s hard to bring food along.”

”True, but we might be able to make something to overcome that.”

Feng Zhong thought of the hippopotamus: ”Your hippopotamus should be able to carry weights. We can build a small boat, place the equipment on it, and have the hippopotamus pull it. That way, it can lighten a lot of the load.”

Hearing this, Chen Wen was taken aback.

Don’t say, this idea is actually pretty good.

”But the problem is that boats are hard to make. We lack materials, and we’d have to start from cutting down trees. If we start from scratch, by the time we finish the boat, we’d be eliminated.”

Chen Wen thought it over and pointed out a flaw in the plan.

But Feng Zhong just waved his hand: ”No problem!”

”When I was on my way here, I saw an overturned canoe on the eastern riverbank. It seemed to have been washed down from upstream by a flood. The boat is damaged but not severely, I think it can be repaired. So I dragged it slightly to the shore. If no one else has gone to look for it, we should still be able to find it now.”

A canoe?

Chen Wen immediately became interested: ”How far?”

”It’s half a day’s journey, a whole day for the round trip.”

Feng Zhong said.

Chen Wen calculated the time, knowing it was definitely too late now, as it was already noon.

Therefore, Chen Wen said: ”Let’s go tomorrow, we can go together then.”

”Alright.”

Feng Zhong nodded.

His proposal being accepted made him feel very pleased.

This also helped him save face, preventing him from being completely outdone by newcomers.

After they made arrangements for the next day’s plans, they began discussing the plans for the afternoon and evening.

”Taking turns resting tonight?”

Feng Zhong tentatively asked.

Chen Wen shook his head: ”The hippopotamus is here, it’ll be feeding nearby at night, and its droppings are all over the camp; generally, no animals will come.”

Pausing, he continued: ”This attack by the two leopards was actually because this used to be their territory that I took over. That leopard also attacked me but was driven off by me. Now it came back, unexpectedly causing you to be harmed.”

Feng Zhong was surprised to hear this.

He never expected there to be a backstory involving those two leopards.

”Hey, can’t really call it harm.”

Feng Zhong shrugged it off, seeing the bright side: ”Then let’s rest together. This afternoon I’ll work on the shelter, resting below, you still rest above, as it was.”

This statement made Chen Wen quite comfortable.

He instantly agreed.

Seeing Chen Wen’s mood lift, Feng Zhong tentatively said: ”Though my food is finished...”

”Eat mine first, once we have the canoe sorted, we’ll go hunt the big Nile Crocodile!”

Chen Wen wasn’t stingy.

As long as Feng Zhong was willing to cooperate, he’d be willing to do the same.

The two of them immediately set the plans and divided responsibilities.

That afternoon, Feng Zhong would build the shelter, while Chen Wen would scout around, preparing for the next step’s hunting plan.
