Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 419: Chapter 88: The Frenzied Wanderer

Late at night, as the staff no longer paid attention to the contestants.

Inside Chen Wen’s new sanctuary.

With the arrival of the hippo, three animals gathered together.

Chen Wen offered roasted meat, intending to let the three animals feast and celebrate their reunion.

But among the three animals, only the hippo was quite happy.

The two leopards, however, seemed to have little appetite.

”What’s wrong? Can’t get used to it?”

Chen Wen asked Leopard the Second.

Leopard the Second nodded slightly.

They could eat cooked food, but the two leopards didn’t really like it.

However, this was a secondary reason.

Leopard the Second revealed the main reason: ”We are very worried about that elephant, especially my brother; it is very scared.”

”So we find it hard to eat.”

Elephant?

The hippo didn’t know what that was; it just silently watched Chen Wen, wondering if it could help in any way.

Hearing this, Chen Wen felt a bit helpless.

Because there weren’t many solutions, unless they tamed or killed the elephant, the only option was to relocate.

Just as Chen Wen was about to ask the leopard brothers their opinion, Leopard the Second said, ”Human, my brother said he wants to hunt later, would you like to come?”

Hunting?

Looking at the pitch-black night, Chen Wen hesitated for a moment: ”I think I’ll pass. It’s too dark; though I can see a bit, I’m not used to moving at night.”

Whether it was his biological clock or the instinctive fear of the dark.

They all made Chen Wen a bit averse to night activities.

Leopard the Second didn’t insist, after all, in its view, with it and its brother joining forces, what prey wouldn’t be easily caught?

Chen Wen said, ”Be careful then, besides, I’ll deal with the elephant problem in the next couple of days, and you all...”

Just as Chen Wen was speaking.

Suddenly, an eerie noise came from the quiet surroundings.

Chen Wen paused his speech and listened intently.

The two leopards and the hippo also noticed something unusual, silently listening to the surrounding sounds.

The sound was like a gust of wind, blowing from afar and constantly approaching.

Moreover, this wind seemed fierce, capable of breaking branches.

In the snapping sound of branches, Chen Wen suddenly became alert: ”Something’s wrong! Be careful! That elephant is coming!”

Hearing Chen Wen’s warning, Leopard the Second suddenly roared, prompting Leopard the First into action.

The hippo, although unaware of what an elephant was,

Suddenly stood up and blocked Chen Wen.

Chen Wen immediately took out burning smoke bombs from the shelter and ignited them.

This time, there was no need to observe.

The returning African elephant had a very clear goal: attack!

As the noise grew nearer, the leopard brothers continuously roared, trying to drive away the approaching elephant from the camp.

But an adult male African elephant couldn’t care less.

With a thunderous trumpet, Chen Wen threw the burning smoke bombs.

The flames cut through the night sky, faintly illuminating the surroundings.

As the burning smoke bombs landed and rolled a bit.

By the firelight, Chen Wen and the leopard brothers could clearly see the entirety of this elephant.

Its body was extraordinarily strong!

Over three meters tall, standing there like a small building.

Chen Wen’s heart raced violently.

Not because of love at first sight, but out of intense nervousness.

His hand trembled slightly as he lit another burning smoke bomb.

And threw it again.

The light and smoke from the two burning smoke bombs hindered the elephant’s advance.

This elephant was very afraid of the flames and smoke.

It stood still, continuously emitting thunderous roars.

Leopard the First was already frightened.

It turned and hid behind Chen Wen, while Leopard the Second barely refrained from fleeing, but its trembling body gave it away.

Even the hippo, which had never shown fear before, was now trembling a little.

Elephant, elephant.

Is this what an elephant is?!

The hippo now memorized the word ”elephant” completely.

The three animals lay low without making any signals.

Chen Wen could only continue to throw out burning smoke bombs.

Under the drive of smoke and flames, the African elephant wandered for a long time.

In the end, it let out an unwilling roar and slowly retreated.

”Has it gone?”

Chen Wen wiped the sweat off his face and used a drone to observe from the sky.

Using the night vision function, he saw the African elephant was indeed retreating.

However, every now and then, it would look back.

This scene made Chen Wen’s heart race with fear.

”It seems this African elephant and I are at odds; dealing with its threat must be the most urgent task right now.”

Chen Wen said as he extinguished the burning smoke bombs he’d thrown out.

At this moment, the three animals also gradually recovered.

Leopard the First growled twice at Chen Wen and then quietly left.

Leopard the Second hesitated and said, ”I think we should leave here, return to the previous camp? That’s also my brother’s idea; it’s willing to share some of the former sanctuary with you.”

Chen Wen sighed: ”I’ll consider it.”

At this point, the hippo nervously said, ”Human, so that’s what elephants are? Let me tell you, humans, elephants are very dangerous! I once saw with my own eyes a competitor provoke an elephant and, in the end, get killed by it!”

”You mustn’t provoke it! I feel Leopard the Second has a point; returning to the previous camp is better.”

Chen Wen was quite helpless: ”I didn’t provoke it; this is only the second time I’ve seen it. I feel someone must have hurt this elephant before, but I’ll consider your suggestion.”

Upon hearing this, the hippo finally felt relieved and left.

It still needed to eat throughout the night, right around the camp.

The leopard brothers went outside, planning to hunt under the cover of night.

Only Chen Wen remained in the camp, and the surroundings quieted down.

However, Chen Wen wasn’t sleepy; he was pondering how to resolve the threat of the elephant.

The simplest and safest way was to relocate.

Returning to the original sanctuary via the water route would certainly be safe.

But Chen Wen was not quite willing to accept that.

After all, it took a lot of effort to arrive at a better place, only to go back because of an elephant.

But if he wants to stay here, he must either tame, kill, or drive it away.

All options seemed like an insurmountable challenge!

Chen Wen scratched his head, thought for a long time, and came up with some plans in his mind.

But they would have to wait until tomorrow.

...

Early the next morning.

Right after Chen Wen woke up, the production team called to inquire about the situation.

Chen Wen informed the production team of last night’s events, making slight modifications to the story.

Soon after, Abel personally spoke to Chen Wen.

The main point of the conversation was simple: Abel advised Chen Wen to be careful and not to take any risks for the sake of the show.

Like attempting to tame an elephant.

Abel made an exception to inform Chen Wen about this elephant.

This elephant is well-known locally, called the Rampaging Wanderer.

Its fame does not come from other things, but from its violent and highly aggressive nature.

The Rampaging Wanderer witnessed its mother being killed by poachers when it was young, which created a hatred for humans.

After reaching adulthood, it launched several attacks on humans and human habitation areas.

In the most serious incident, this elephant charged into a temporary village of locals.

While the hunters were out hunting, it caused one person to become disabled, four severely injured, and seventeen lightly wounded in the camp.

It was also after this event that the local government organized a hunt targeting this elephant.

However, the hunt ended in failure.

Since then, the elephant has been active in the Caprivi Strip.

The most recent sighting was reported by Ivan, who injured the elephant.

Before that, a hunter from the same tribe as the guide used weapons to tear the elephant’s abdomen.

Abel’s message was clear: a beast like this cannot be tamed.
